Yeah, I saw that coming. You looked a little sad at first. I thought, "She thinks she knows how this is going to sound. But wait." And you see why my CD collection (ask you parents, you missing-out streamers) is stacked with DCD albums. My memories of my Pop are not so sweet as yours, but this is one of the few. He loaned me this record-I called him and told him to go buy himself another copy because he wasn't getting this back. The cheek. But he did. I must've played that thing 10 times that first day. This band led me to all kinds of excellent artists. Raja, Sheila Chandra ("Roots and Wings". Boy Howdy.) McKennitt. If you like this, I've got loads of stuff you've probably never heard of. If I have any trace of what the kids call FOMO, it's about music. I would lose sleep scouring the internet for obscure stuff and now have a gold mine. And my friend, did I need this today. We're being blizzarded on, again, it's 4 degrees out, ("That's a real temperature, not a science project."-Richard Jeni) and Bob Uecker died today. I'm crushed. I knew it was coming, but still. Took the long way home and was rewarded when I got here. Thanks so much, Momma. It's a real pick-me-up again, just when I needed it. And btw, I think you're really gonna dig that next DCD on that list. This time, the gentleman sings. It was the "hit record" on that album. Til then, thanks, Momma. 🤗
I'm so glad this gave you a pick me up. I'm a state away so I am getting the weather too. Monday it's going to be 6 with -20 wind chills. Brrrrrrr. Sure has been a frosty winter this year. Can't wait for the next DCD - I'll do it on my next recording session this weekend sometime.
@@TheRealMommaOG Yeah, not looking forward to the deep freeze. Snow or cold, but both, that's brutal. Re: DCD-they did an excellent cover of "The Wind That Shakes The Barley", and if I remember right, it's her vocal only. I don't recall any instrumentation, but, I used to drink a lot in them days. Def looking forward to that last entry!
This song is about dancing around the fire and summoning the ancient spirits and praying to gods whose names are already forgotten. Deep and beautiful. I used to listen to it a lot when I was young :)
Lisa has stated it was a song to summon feminine energy. She said at the time she was heavily inspired by the amazing traditional Bulgarian folk singers.
About 20 years ago I had the privilege of seeing Lisa Gerrard at a small live venue in NYC. I watched her perform a mere 10 feet away from me and it took me to another level. She opened with the song "The Host of Seraphim" . The power of her voice spontaneously brought tears the eyes of the audience. One of my favorite moments in my life that I still think of to this day and get goose bumps.
so glad to see you react to this! This was my first album in which I fully got ingulfed into by this group in 2010 So many good memories of discovering my true musical tastes when it comes to the goth subculture. My absolute favorite album from Dead can Dance has to be their 2nd album spleen and ideals which i got around to shortly after this one. It really surprised me and i'd love to see you react to that as well. Wonderful reaction!
Dead can dance are one of my personal favourite bands ! They got put in with the goth genre but Impo they transcended that genre to be one of those groups that existed on there own !!!
Nice! Add some flamenco guitar and it sounds like baking tracks I Jamm to on RUclips! Search Arabic flamenco backing tracks. So I had to look this up. They are Australian based using Worldly instruments to create Gregorian, Bulgarian, Middle Eastern sounds. This album was recorded in the Mayfair Theater 🎭 in Santa Monica California! Cool! Time to plug the "V" into the Marshall and KRRRAANK!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
Sharp ear picking up her voice from a movie score. Her work with Hans Zimmer on Gladiator was nominated for a bunch of awards, winning several. Lisa uses a practice called glossolalia, similar to the phenomenon known as "speaking in tongues". It replicates the sound of words in an unknown language helping to create the ethereal vibe while also leaving the music open to interpretation, not pinning it down with any specific lyrics.
I am a COD Zombie addict... I think it sounds similar but I'm not sure if it's exact. I didn't even notice this until someone mentioned it the other day. lol 😅😅

My preferred song from Dead Can Dance is Song of the Stars. It is not just a song, but a trip.

The album this song is from is perfect. Listen to the whole album, you won't regret it.
Rakim is my favorite by DCD
great choice. DCD are so good, but underrated.

That was one of the main points that hooked me into this band. Talk about making your own path.
That sounds right up my alley!!!
You'd LOVE the Cocteau Twins, then.
Is your intro sound/music coming from COD black ops zombie ? Nice ref
