  • Here are the Tahitian basics afata and faarapu. Take it slow until you get comfortable then speed up. Sorry for the rough cut and mess. Now that baby Maverick is here I’ll be doing what I can when I can. Next we will work on faarapu levels and endurance.Thanks for watching ! Malama pono ( take care)

    I feel lke I can not pick this up no matter what I do. I wil continue to practice, but it's like when I sway left my leg wants to bends left with it. I went to my first luau June 22nd. I'll never forget it. One day I hope to see another one, but in Philadelphia there really isn't a hawaiian population sadly. I am hoping I can learn enough to teach a few friends. This dance makes me feel really confident in me... Thank you for contributing to bettering my self-awareness

    Thanks for the tips, especially about the ami vs fa'arapu. I danced with Kel's Polynesia, and was always taught ami only. Also, My hips rotate in the opposite direction. I was disappointed that my tassels and skirt never moved as well as the other dancers.

    • @AbbyQuiet
      @AbbyQuiet  6 лет назад

      Star Merrill you’re very welcome. I naturally go the opposite way too. But when I was told it was wrong I switched. Now it’s hard for me. The best of the best dancers can do both. Oooo video idea

      Hi hi hi! I’ve danced for many years and there are plenty of dancers that come in different shapes and sizes. With practice you can definitely get there too. If you want to do a face time chat you can show me your faarapu and I can see what needs to implemented to get the basic movement locked in. Please reach out to me on Instagram thepileaplantshop

      @thepileaplantshop9395 I will definitely take you up on that call, Thursday possibly if ur available. I'll let u know if Thursday is a for sure or not when I know of me husband is for sure going to work lol. I don't try and do these dances in front of him because I'm so embarrassed because I feel my body just don't move like it should. Thank you for offering FaceTime ❤❤

      fromdebster that’s amazing! How wonderful to see the fruits of hard work! Pioneering is wonderful! I was able to do it for 3 years and it really built up my faith. I love the special meetings that help us learn how to dig deeper, see things we might have overlooked.. I had to step aside for now with my gunner in school and the two babies it’s too much for me. Maybe later I can do it again, we will see.😁

    When you taught Afata slowly at first you went forward and back with one hip. Then when you faced the mirror you went forward with the left hip and back with the right. Then forward with the right hip and back with the left. I’m confused! Is it just me?

    Sister do you have classes in your home?

    • @AbbyQuiet
      @AbbyQuiet  6 лет назад

      fromdebster yes I do! I’m trying not to loose focus, so it’s all JW- small and intimate. I do charge for the basics and skill training and conditioning, but not for choreography- bc sometimes we do kingdom songs. And it’s a cheaper rate bc I don’t have the overhang of studio rent-
