Listen guys, when the riders requesting an answer for their story right in typically, they are really troubled. Howard affects them and their lives. I really take all of you very serious and consider the action in the reactions and how they will affect your lives. It’s for that I don’t come unhinged, I’m very pragmatic when I think through your issues and try to answer you. Trust me I can be crazy but because it’s your lives that I’m dealing with I try not to be dramatic and just be real and deal with the issue. Sometimes even as a parent when Morgan comes to me with something that is ridiculous. Yes, I can be crazy and go off the charts and I’ll see if Morgan can give us more stories that we can see that side of me just for the fun. But most of the stuff that comes through here is not fun and that’s why you get the side of me that takes you very serious and I put my heart into those answers.

For the Korean story: I'm Indian, engaged to a French guy who left his country to be with me. Considering that Asian cultures are pretty similar in the dating aspect, here are my two cents:
There is no FAILING in relationships. Introducing your partner is equivalent to an engagement. You can't introduce your partner and have you guys break up after that. If that happens, you essentially lose all community support, and if it's known in the community, you might even find it hard to fin someone to be with in the future. A lot rides on this.
HOWEVER. As someone who was in th exact same shoes as them, I said yes to my partner moving to my country only when I was absolutely sure I was going to be marrying him. And so just before he moved, we sat down with them, and had a conversation about marriage and the future.
There is a big possibility that the boyfriend is not sure he wants to marry this girl. It's possible that he isn't as into this as she is. Which brings me to another aspect: inter cultural relationships are HARD. Is he always going to be asking HER to adjust? Is he always going to be expecting HER to compromise to his way of living to appease his parents? I have seen this happen. And it never ends well. To be able to walk the middle ground, he needs to be able to stand up to his parents, and sheild her from the negativity from his community.

For the teacher story: I was in Early Childhood Education for 4 years and had gotten severely burnt out, but was scared I wouldn’t find anything else because my degree was specifically in education. I now work in a tech/logistics company making way more money than I ever would have made in education. Don’t let that fear stop you from trying to apply at other places! Even if you do have to start at an entry level and work your way up, that would look great on a resume I think :)

For the brother-in-law addict story: this is a good example of how addiction is a disease that deeply affects the whole family. Absolutely agree with the “oxygen mask” rule, and also… he needs rehab. He cannot “quit by a deadline”, he needs supervised medical detox and inpatient therapy to address the roots of the addiction. If he drank $800 of alcohol over 4 days and seemed sober, he’s 100% chemically dependent on it. Also, “sometimes pills” reads to me as “opiate addict who masks it with alcoholism”. The sister in the story could benefit from going to AA herself, or CODA (co-dependents anonymous) for community support. Unfortunately, the BIL needs rock-bottom to wake up.

    • @maddisonk88
      @maddisonk88 8 месяцев назад

That's good advice. I also think that the question was asking more about advice to help build a community around her sister so she's not the only one to help. Doing some simple things like joining a group activity together (book club - in person or online, take a dance class, or attending a local paint night) so that you both have the opportunity to meet other people. Also asking her to attend a NAR-Anon group for families and friends of addicts could help her connect with her reasons for leaving to ensure that she sticks to her decision could help.
Finally, if she has ever had some friends she has been close with in the past (old college girlfriends, neighbours or even nearby cousins), then you could reach out to them privately and ask them to re-connect and build that community around her while she needs the support. Most old friends would love an opportunity to catch up but need a reason. And, if they knew her before or at the beginning of her marriage, if the husbands' issues were the reasons that those relationships strained in the first place, they would be glad to help get your sister into a safer and healthier environment.

A teacher being burnt out doesn't mean they don't like the job anymore, it means they don't have support. Teachers are underpaid, unappreciated, are mandated reporters but nothing gets done & they're stuck in the middle of the country's political climate, besides dealing with admin & parents. I know amazing teachers who have left the profession because it was killing them, physically & emotionally.

To the Teacher: Repeat after me: “I’m allowed to change the direction of my life.” If you are burnt out and don’t like you career then you have every liberty to change it. I’ve seen people in their 80’s get a college degree. I’ve seen people in their 60’s change their career. You are allowed to find what makes going to work worth it. I use to be a nurse.. now I’m a workforce scheduler. My advice is start looking for a new job/career now and when you get it then put in your 2 week notice. That way you won’t feel like your husband is over worked and you’ll be happy because you’ll have made the move to find happiness. Go for it. You got this

It is cruel to neglect any dogs exercise needs, but it is especially cruel to neglect a high energy dog. It’s like taking an athlete who loves running & locking them in a closet for their life. The dog is innocent here & not giving high energy dogs daily exercise is cruel. And hunting dogs!? It’s as simple as training them to sniff out treats around the house to stimulate their brains, alongside DAILY exercise. Not camping, hunting or hiking once a week, DAILY. If he wants a lazy dog to follow him around, get a low energy breed. Otherwise rehome the dog to someone who can actually keep up with the level of activity the dog deserves.

My daughters dad hid our relationship for the last year of our relationship. It was a constant struggle with us, and we were on and off a lot because of it.. he wouldnt tell his friends, his parents, anyone.. I realized he was ashamed to say he was with me (we had our daughter young). I finally stopped putting in the energy, told him I was done not being known, and called it off for good. Met someone new within 2-3 months, and we’ve been happily together for 10 years this December. He told his parents about me the first few months.
Don’t settle for anything less than what you deserve.. you’ll continue missing out on his culture.. truly knowing how he is with his family.. knowing how he was brought up, what made him him… some people might be okay with it- but you obviously aren’t.. don’t let your relationship continue unless youre willing to be a secret forever

i feel like for this channel and tht eps where you directly address listeners and write-ins they should give you a name or a penname, so people in the comments can also address them. so when/if these people see that you answered their questions or concerns they can go to the comments, ctrl+f and search for their name lol.
that said, person who is burnt out from teaching - you have people who want to support you. if you live with your partners parents rent-free or at least very cheap, you can save money and search for a job that doesn't suck. that is a very easy solution to the problem. the big issue you're having though seems like internal feelings of inadequacy which i understand, but that is something you really need to look inward to break it down and get over. WAY easier said than done. but the second you decide that feeling inadequate is an unhelpful thought, and it's keeping yourself down when your support system around you is saying they will help lift you up in this way, you will be UNSTOPPABLE. I was in a similar situation in 2021 and I moved in with my grampa and I finished college that way. I felt like I was taking 20 steps back moving in with a family memeber. But then I went 200 steps forward. You can do this, and you have the means. You just need to tell the gremlin in your head to shut up :))))

There is a vlogging couple I have watched for years where the husband is Japanese and the wife is American, and if I recall correctly, the husband didn't tell his family he was dating someone until they were already engaged and on the verge of marriage. He said it was a cultural thing for him, but idk if that's similar between Japan and Korea. What I have heard is that SK is rather monocultural. The country I'm from is too, and some people here (much to my disdain) are of the opinion that dating people of other nationalities is fine, but marrying them isn't. And yeah, I think that is racist - thinking that someone is okay to date but not to marry because of their ethnicity is absolutely racist in my view.

Teacher story: As a teacher myself I completely understand burn out. If she is truly passionate about teaching she should seek out a different school or district that better supports her. She should have planning time and time to PLC with other teachers in her grade. I am a middle school teacher so it’s a little different but my school gives us 2 planning periods per day and one of them a week is a grade level PLC to support one another. Plus every few weeks our admin give us a “gift of time” and we get an extra hour of planning. I know this isn’t realistic for a lot of schools but if she is passionate and wants to continue to teach she should seek for those places that will support her. It’s a hard job and it does suck sometimes but there are schools out there that will do anything possible to support her.

If you’re reading this woman from our story. My remote workplace is hiring. I just promoted into management. I’d love to help you. You are safe. Wellfound is a great resource to find remote work in start up tech. I left my teaching job for this and I couldn’t be happier. You got this. 42:29
