The most loosely inspired One Piece live action short film. Zoro trains Haki one day in the woods alone... or so he thinks. Thanks so much for checking this project out. We had a blast playing with some of the characters Oda created! Thank you to Toru for wanting to do something crazy like learn Santoryu for real.

Zoro might be dreaming of Oden the entire time when he was at Wano. The Dream that cannot be fulfilled in Reality for Oden was long Dead.

This really made my day. Zoro being my favorite character in One Piece, I loved these scenes. Santoryuu is not a practical style but you guys brought it to life here. Maybe you could try Kyutoryuu Ashura next, lol.

Hope Netflix hires you to do Zoro's choreography for season 2 so Zoro can get some more exciting 3 sword-style fights, even if it isn't practical you made it feel natural. ^^

Honestly, choreography-wise, Santoryu is doable just very weird and awkward to pull off

That was fun. Oden comes back to train Zoro. Uchikado really makes Santorryu look like a real discipline. I'm glad that boy asked him about it. Netflix definitely needs him to train Mackenyu or at least do his choreo for next season.

Thanks Omar!! They're two top tier performers!! I almost forgot that I wasn't in an anime when we were in that forest watching them fight.
Couple things I noticed was wrong: first one: Zoro never starts with the 3rd sword on his mouth. He first starts drawing his first two swords then the third one comes out!! Second: the blade of the third sword always goes to your left cheek, sometimes Zoro does it on the right cheek only when he does the ONIGIRI move. But on in normal fights, it’s always on the left cheek every time most likely. Third one: Every time u have the handle in your mouth, try and make sure you show your top teeth than your bottom one’s, since it will make you look more aggressive, angry, strong, fierce, dominant, confident, and intimidating… The best way to do it is to open your mouth and exaggerate the articulation, maintain the structure, try flexing your face upper and try to hold that appearance of that angry man face, try to show more of the upper ones and less of the lower ones. Same with your bottom teeth. Try to hide them a little as you can. Showing your bottom teeth only makes you look tired and difficult for you to maintain the katanas and the rhythm. and that greatly affects a lot the perspective of the spectators, who are watching everything though the screen since it has to look real as if you mastered three sword style. I’m just sharing my personal criticism and some corrections. I know it won’t be perfect but this is something that can be achieved since it’s a matter of practice and it may be difficult but meeting those demands only makes you surpass yourself and your skills. Maybe the handle of the katana was thick but there are finer designs and Mackenyu the actor who plays Zoro on OP live action Netflix, used these same techniques I’m sharing you and also katanas with finer handles. Unless you’re push and flexing the handle so deep and hard into your mouth so you can have a better grip, but that doesn’t help at all… you shouldn't do that bc then you won't be able to do any of this and it will only damage your jaw. I hope this helps.

三刀と二刀との受けや押合いの表現が完璧👌この動きは苦労したやろうなぁ〜。和同一文字を咥えたまま叫ぶシーンの再現がすごい。動画ではほんの一、二秒のシーンやけど、ゾロのキャラ再現がわずか一、二秒の細やかな演出でより高いものになってますね。

This is definitely a more intricate sword fight than zoro in the live action!! this is so cool! if you know the scene sound hashira vs upper demon six the camera work there where they just rotote around the sword fight as it get more intense with zoom in and zoom out cuts I think that would be cool to use as a shot

This is so amazing but to get more views it should catch you right from the beginning I think. I had the patience waiting for it to start over 1 minute in but nowadays tik tok generation doesn't. I'm not a director but maybe think of ways to make it more dramatic from the beginning instead playing of a pieceful song for over a minute. But again, amazing work you done there!!!
Nice to see Josh Mabie still cranking out super indie fan films and I’ve been following Brendon Huor from the 10,000 pounds fight team days so nice to see him still fighting the good fight.
Now I don’t know the source material but that mini skirt costume is impossible to take seriously, neither is the sword in the mouth. Like I said, not familiar with the source.

Have you read the manga or watched the show? Or watched it fresh without any other background? Genuinely curious, because I don't think it's an 8 but it's definitely the best live-action anime to date outside of Kenshin!
I have to say, what you've done here is pretty cool. However, now that I've seen the Live Action adaptation of One Piece, this Short Film feels a tad over-the-top to me. I don't know much about film production, and I've only watched the live-action version twice, but if you're open to some criticism, here are a few things I think could be improved:
1. Some of the sound effects throughout the short film seem a bit off, like the one at 1:01 that gets repeated at 1:03, and the sword-drawing sounds. If you compare it to the scene where Dracule Mihawk draws his sword in the live-action version, it just feels more epic and subtle. The sounds you've used are a bit too sharp on the ears. Maybe they need a filter or are just too loud. It's hard for me to pinpoint exactly what it is.
2. The use of "bloom" effects seems a bit strange. Is it supposed to symbolize a dream or a beautiful landscape? Honestly, it doesn't look that great to me, and it kind of makes the film appear cheaper.
3. The music from the beginning to 1:10 didn't really grab my attention. I even thought about clicking away within the first minute. But once the fight started and you introduced the battle music, it got me more engaged. Maybe it would be nice if there was some dialogue in the first minute where the characters introduce themselves and explain why they're fighting. I think that would be more interesting than just music and posing.
All in all, I want to emphasize that I really appreciate your hard work, and, I think, it's a great short film. I have to give props for the Togen Totsuka Oda usage; it looked really nice and added an organic touch.
hey thanks for the thoughts! I'm sure you're already aware, but our point in making this was not to compare or even try to compete with what they created, Toru promised a child at Anime expo that he would learn Santoryu inside a month, and so we kind of just put this together last minute. One guy directed, shot, edited, did the vfx and sfx and we shot this for literally zero dollars, so we definitely were never aiming to compete with the millions of dollars the netflix show has, just trying to create something fun and new in the world of One piece! We agree that the netflix version really nailed a lot of things, including the sound effects! Thanks so much for your thoughts and for watching! We're always trying to improve!
