2001 The Gondoliers Trailer | Lamplighters Music Theatre

LMT Multimedia is pleased to present Lamplighters' 2001 production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Gondoliers, or The King of Barataria!, directed by Jane Erwin and set in the 1960’s.
Venice is abuzz with excitement at the news that Marco and Giuseppe, its two most popular singing gondoliers, have decided to marry! And they will select their brides from among Venice’s hopeful contadine in a public contest. Moments after their wedding, they learn from The Grand Inquisitor that one of them - it’s unclear which - is in fact royalty: the missing and uncrowned King of Barataria, and that one of the brides, Tessa or Gianetta, will be Queen! Until it can be settled which of the gondoliers is actually King, the two equality-minded gondoliers set off to Barataria to rule jointly as one individual, and refashion the monarchy according to egalitarian principles. Meanwhile, the visiting Duke and Duchess of Plaza-Toro reveal that their daughter, Casilda, has been married by proxy to the infant son of the King of Barataria, and they have come to claim their place as royal parents-in-law.
But who is the rightful heir to the Baratarian throne? And which of the lovely leading ladies will rule as Queen?
