NGL, Butter and Dynamite actually initially stopped me from exploring more BTS music. My first exposure to them was Mic Drop (or actually the Miggie Smalls mashup of Mic Drop and K/DA's Pop/Star) and liked it so I looked up newer BTS stuff. I did not like how pop sounding Butter and Dynamite were. Eventually, the YT algorithm dropped "War of Hormone" on me, and the rest is history. I still very much favor their stuff with more of an edge, however (like Attack on Bagtan, ON, Run BTS, etc.)

I always tell people who are just starting to check out BTS that you are not going to get a true sense of what they are about from listening to 1 or 2 songs. Because their catalogue is not only very vast, it’s also very diverse. No one album is alike. Hell, no one song of theirs is alike. So it all depends on at what point in their almost 11 year career that you are dipping into. They are probably the only artists I know whose b-sides are just as good as their major releases.

Just a few months after their debut in June 2013, they released N.O, a takedown of the University-to-Corporation pipeline in Korean society. It’s soo good. They began as a hip hop group, and it’s always been their best lane, though they ride in many lanes, and do it quite well, too, imho.
Another track I’d check out is UGH! and then check out the video “A Korean explains UGH!” You will become an even greater fan.
For a more recent track that is truly great-RUN BTS. It has no official MV, so check out the dance practice. It’s brilliant. The last concert they did before beginning their solo/military service hiatus was in Busan, and they began the show with Mic Drop and then RUN BTS. So. Fucking. Good.

I've been an ARMY since 2015. I love all their songs but their english songs are not my favourite (I listen to it sometimes but not in repeat) I love their rap songs (Cypher pt 3, Ugh, Tear and all of the raplines' songs)
But believe me, even though their English songs are the most popular, their korean songs are A LOT better. Sometimes people judge BTS based on Dynamite, Butter and PTD, but don't get fooled😂 Their music genres are so diverse. Loved the honest reaction btw!
