Javanese, Balinese (East) meet Rock, Progressive, Jazz (West)....Sound Incredible... Soimah...sing in ancient Javanese language...she is Sinden (Javanese singer) also a comedian, she is from java Dewa Budjana....jazz guitarist also lead guitarist in GIGI Band (Pop Rock, Alternative Rock), he is from bali
I have been following Dewa Budjana since 2013 when he played mostly in his home country and like his style very much. He has developed into a serious name in jazz-fusion world and plays with the best musicians now. I in general like the style where the artist takes his native music and mixes it with jazz/prog/fusion. It creates an interresting mixture of tradition and progress.
The lyric is in Javanese language. Mrs. Soimah is a traditional/Javanese singer called Sinden. The singing technique is a standart technique for Sindens. Javanese songs are in pentatonic scale. I think this song uses the pentatonic scale too.
Learnt of Dewa via Jordan, Mohini and Marco play on his solo album. Was very impressed, obviously Dewa is a great guitarist and writes well and the stuff I was hearing was tasty, exotic and technically accomplished; something I nearly always look for. I LOVE Mohini's use of Konnakol and working through those complex and tight rhythmic sections!
John Pruciante, the guitarist from RHCP, really admired Dewwa Budjana, until he was invited to play in his private house and had to keep it a secret, uniquely Mr John, there was nothing he ever invited to play at his house except Dewa Budjana, he was very closed with his life
Dewa Budjana is one of the best guitarists in Indonesia, Jordan Rudess, everybody knows who he is, Mohini Dey is one of the promising International Jazz Bassist, Marco M is a very fine drummer...while the Vocalist Soimah, is by nature very talented singer and graduated from Jogjakarta Art Institute. What can I say...the composition is heavenly unique....Love It
Thanks so much for your reaction.. Dewa Budjana always amazing.. combine ethnic and modern music.. Please give your reaction too.. to 5 young talented kids.. with SKETSA song.. a fussion jazz song... we looking forward your next reaction.. Thanks so much
Have you ever listened to Balinese gamelan music? That fast keyboard/guitar passage is based on the sound of gamelan music with its pentatonic scales, and adds chords and modulation to give it a jazz sound. The metallic percussion instruments at the beginning are also from gamelan music.
@@deanwolfechannel not even close. Java island, where capital city Jakarta reside, has two major languages, javanese and sundanese. Although some words are same, but they are very different. And these traditional languages are very different from Bahasa Indonesia, our national language. It is very common when you can't understand what your neighbors say 😂
To add, even javanese itself consists of many dialects which are specific to the region one is living in or originated from. I am a javanese from eastern part of the java island. I spoke (not expertly) 3 levels/tiers of javanese depending on whom i talk to.

That was fresh and really enjoyable! Should do some more fusion. Have you heard Mahavushnu Orchestra (John McLaughlain et al.), Brand X (Phil Collins et al.) or Colosseum II (Gary Moore et al.)?
Dewa Budjana is an Indonesian guitarist. I like his guitar playing. This song is sung by a traditional music singer. If you like it, Check QUEEN KENYA. You can enjoy musical instruments rather than singing.

Did Marco Minnemann and Jordan Rudess just show up at their doorstep and say “Let’s jam”? That would be my dream scenario 😊.
