The movie should've ended with Ted taking the seed back to town, then focusing on Onceler, saying, "good luck. Maybe one day I'll tell you the whole story". Then fade in to Biggering as the final scene of the movie. It ends the film on a punch, leaves the audience on a dark note, and would never happen in a million years because Illumination are a bunch of cowards.
I love the detail of the Once-ler saying he "wasn't aware of bad water" because it shows how even when companies do know something they always say they don't, and they want to come across as somebody who just made a mistake.

It’s a small thing, but I’m glad you made the Once-ler smoke. It was a big part of his character in 1972 and I understand that they couldn’t have him do that in an Illumination film, but it carries very important symbolism. To live in the here and now without caring about future consequences. Even if you know it’s bad but chose to deny it, reality will be undeniable when it’s too late.
He starts with a cigarette, but by the time the animation ends, he coughs into a handkerchief. The implication being he just coughed up blood. The chair he's sitting in blocks the Onceler from view in the original cartoon, he's seen sitting in the chair, with nothing but a glove and a cigar to show he's even alive as he burns the world into faith. The chair we see him sit in at the end.
I love how he smiles when alone when he had nothing, but he only smiles when he’s outside of his office after Biggering. The Once-Ler is Biggering didn’t make him happier, it did the opposite.
One of my favorite bits in this animatic is how the Onceler used the bears fighting over food as an example of "survival of the fittest" to justify what he's doing, not realizing that what he's doing MADE them this way. Its great circular hypocrisy that shows his utter selfishness, corruption, and lack of remorse. Using an example that he made himself to justify his path of destruction.
Little detail I caught, instead of saying, "who cares if a few trees are dying" it says, "who cares if a few THINGS are dying" showing not only trees are dying, and he knows, but is too blinded from greed to care.
Very true, it’s also one of the reasons the lyrics got changed to that for the song that made it into the film, due to this song being too real for a corporation to release.

They lived in peace and harmony and once things went bad because of the Onceler's actions, they turned on each other. They learned about greed, anger, and fighting for survival from the Onceler. The existence of competitors. We have seen it in real life that success breeds competition and that often propels the ruthless business decisions. It's like that line in the Usual Suspects where Verbal Kint says that "it's being willing to do what the other guy won't do." This also parallels the difference between Onceler and O'Hare. O'Hare learned from Onceler to control and profit off a necessity and turn it into a commodity. Then he went up in ruthlessness and villainy. Onceler's cough from pollution and smoking and then lighting up again. It shows power, respect, a willingness to break all rules, and stress and anxiety. The Onceler is destroying the environment and himself with his actions and he has lost the ability to care.

Excellent choice - showing the barbaloots during the survival of the fittest part is so genius??? I also appreciate the focus on the impact on the animals, a lot of animators forget that even though it was arguably a primary focus of the book - i love that you can see in his expressions that once-ler knows the lorax is right. It is not that he cannot understand, it is that he chooses not to understand because doing so would force him to reckon with the harm he is causing - i also like the presence of other companies, the movie didn't allude to any of those even though it kept the survival of the fittest metaphor - overall excellent work thank you

I got chills at the part where the Bar-ba-loots are fighting over the pear. After all, we've only ever seen them getting along with each other. Really drives home just what the destruction of their environment does to the animals. I'd say this scene puts your animatic a step above the other Biggering animatics I've seen. And the Once-ler coughing at the end was such a nice touch, I wish it was in the movie (minus the smoking bit, for obvious reasons).

Thank you so much! That was more or less what I was trying to achieve with this animatic and I'm glad it showed. The colour shifts were partly intentional. The song itself got darker so colours did too.
The way you utilize the Once-ler's eyes in this is enchanting. The scene from 2:36-2:39, with the Lorax's reflection in them, is what got me truly hooked on this particular animatic. I also love how tired the Once-ler looks at the end of it. After rewatching, it becomes so clear that this tiredness isn't from any regrets, but from the Lorax's justified nagging. 2:12 is the first time we see the stress wrinkles. Those wrinkles go away after the Once-ler gets away from the Lorax, despite the fact that he's staring at all the destruction he has caused. The wrinkles come back when the Lorax comes back. They never go away after that, perhaps to indicate that the Lorax's words really stuck with him that second time. However, that big ol' smile of his at 4:53, along with the lyrics, show that he has learned to live with those words and still enjoy what he's doing. It's so humanizing, despite it still being clear that he's in the wrong. Smaller note, but I also love how the poor Swomee Swan slams into the building at the line "a company's an animal," as if to remind the viewer that, no, a company is NOT an animal, and to say otherwise while causing actual animals so much pain is disgusting.
Love the coughing detail. This animation is amazing and you can see that he also smokes. Which would trigger more coughing, I could never do an animation like that
I've seen 2 animations recently, one has nice art work and colours, but this one fits the song almost perfectly and seems like it was ready to be placed in the movie, nice job!
I don't know why but always in the animatics (and in the song biggering even in the conceptual arts) the friendship of the Lorax and the Onceler deepens quite a bit (like this one for example) from how at first it starts off on the wrong foot but they become close until become friends, but because of the pride and greed of the onceler they become enemies or something like that, with the lorax doing everything possible to save the onceler from himself and the forest but we all know how it ended, making the lorax's farewell more shocking because the onceler realized that he lost the only person who cared about him. (I think I'm thinking too much)
I personally LOVE this version of the onceler. Something about the onceler being the True Evil villain and not the Misunderstood kind of villain feels more compelling. I wish that we could've gotten biggering as a song. Also, may I mention how good of work this is? Like seriously this looks exactly like the song sounds, if that makes any sence. Your artstyle is also fantastic! It lines up perfectly and just looks great. Like just.. 👌 Excellent
@@PeppermintLife5 yup, the first part of the animation is usually fairly similar to other animations cos not much to do, final 2 minutes is where u prove ur animation creativity
I don’t see a lot of people talking about 3:56!! That was my favorite part of the whole animatic Onceler’s greed and pride of wanting to be better than the upcoming theed knockoffs! That’s how most companies are, they want to be better than the competitors! Man this is a great animatic!! 🤩
I really love the demeanor you give the Onceler in this, starting with just contemplation and focus and showing how carelessness may cause as much damage as deliberate destruction. Then that desparation to remain at the top ahead of his competitors, it just nicely showcases both the survival of the fittest aspect and how much he's motivated by pride and can't bear to be beaten. I think it's great how not showing what he's coughing up at the end just drives home how much he's chasing the expansion of his enterprise, even over his own well being; he doesn't bother to spend any serious thought on his persistent cough because other things are just so much more important to him.
5:00 I find it a really nice unspoken touch that he sees something (presumably blood) in the rag after he coughs, and he just puts the rag out of sight and lights up another cigarette. Like other people have said on here, this all fits the character much better than the representation he had in the Illumination movie
I genuinely love how you made the Lorax seem like a voice in the back of the Once-Lers head nagging him telling him what he's doing is wrong, but he cannot stop as the song says "biggering." Which shows and you convey this so well when at about 4:12 it just kind of shows him snapping and not caring anymore and fully embracing the capitalist view. Great video man!
The amount of emotions this animation is making me feel is so great. Once-lers face exprecions are great, you can see how attached he is to this company, and how much he needs to make it bigger and "better"
I love the fact that at the line “And the PR people lying!” It shows a newspaper with the once-ler saying he wasn’t aware about the gluppity-glup and shloppity-shlop polluting the rivers.
Very, VERY good animatic, brutal depiction of the impact on nature that Thneed Corp has, very nice allusions to real life corporatePR cover stories and excuses (we didn't know about it, etc etc) I do think it could benefit from more faceless Once-Ler imagery though.
I love the way this song portrays the truth behind large companies. It was a good idea to make the oncler human, it tells us that anyone can be him. I get some of y’all are confused of why this song didn’t make the Final Cut but I honestly think the message is too mature for the young audience. It’s also VERY dramatic 💃💃
It's interesting how the original concept for this movie took a darker side and called out large companies for consciously doing all these terrible things that hurt the world and all that are living in it, only for the big companies to have them change the story to something lighter and have the boss of the big bad company not realize the harm he was doing to the world so that he could go and say, "I had no idea this was happening, I'm so sorry". Because that's what they do when they're called out for doing something wrong that they definitely knew was wrong. They want us to see them the same way we see the Onceler in this movie. Someone who did something wrong without realizing it, so we forgive them. They didn't like how the original Oncler called them out and how that message was definitely going to be picked up by the audience.
I always love that pause between the lines. "Who Cares........If some things are dying." It sounds like he's trying to convenes himself he doesn't care, his pride refusing to tell admit he made a mistake.
This song was given Justice by you sir. You gave a masterpiece. It gave an animation of exactly what this song should've been. You are a person who given The Lorax JUSTICE. You made the Onceler a R E A L villain.
The fact that in biggering it says, who cares if a few *things* are dying. While in how bad can i be its who cares if a few *trees* are dying. In this version it tells you how its not just trees that are dying, its also animals and people even. The fact that they didnt use this sing is triggering.
4:28 I love how this song acknowledges how much greed he had even if it hurt the animals and lying about things. He is now aware of what he is doing and doesn’t care. And is not just unaware like in the movies official song(How Bad Can I Be). “Who cares if some THINGS are dying” is so much better than “who cares if some TREES are dying.” Btw this animation is great!
Can i just say The Oncler standing on a crane with his factory growing in the back ground and ash and smog filling the skies is a VERY intimidating spectacle, high marks from me.
I love the small details that really add to the animation, Like that barbaloots fighting over the one fruit showing how all the trees being removed is effecting the ecosystem. I also love when he coughes near the end where his actions are catching up with him. My theory: So you know how sorta the lorax is trying to protect the once-ler? Well, my theory is that once-ler didnt notice how much he is destroying the ecosystem, and when he realized what he did he did he finally realized that he got rid of clean air and trees.. remember the line from the movie " I guess its fine if its a few trees.." He was trying to regain childhood support with his parents. And for my final line.. The once-ler is innocent.
This animatic should be fully animated. "The Lorax" deserved to be better than Illumination was willing to make it. You did an exceptional job with the screenplay, not to mention capturing the entire message effectively as a whole.
This song should have been in the movie. "How Bad Can I Be" was a pretty decent song in its own right, but this would've been so much better. They really should have used the darker tone for this film. Instead of the Once-Ler being pressured by his family, they should have just had him get caught up in his own success, causing him to get greedy and prideful.
They could’ve had both. I think “How Bad Can I Be” works good as the first song, and “Biggering” could be a good second song for him once he has “reassessed his needs”, just like the lyrics say.
This song would have saved the character sure it was dark but it would show the audience what happens in life and to not be greedy for anything or everything.
I being honest, the amount of injustice this song received is amazing. AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY. We will never see the original project, and this song basically tells me how selfish, careless, egoistical the Once-ler is. The movie never showed this side..I mean they did but not in a good way.
I love how it goes from a light blue color to show how the Onceler was light hearted at first to slowly becoming way more warm and reddish to show how he's becoming more corperate and bad.
My friend actually became friends with an employee at Illumination who worked on the original Biggering draft, he didnt feel comfortable sharing it and legally _couldnt_ share it, so all he told my friend was that the movie was still 2 hours and Biggering was the one thing that stayed the same over the course of the writing. Also apparently one of the writers for that draft said if they scrapped the song they would debate with themself on qutting lol
This is a much more graphic and realistic portrayal than the movie. I kind of wish they made it a PG 13 movie and then went all out with the message about corporate consumerism and hurting the environment.
Featuring the word "project" doesnt refer to Willow Project! Its about Thneedville, the fictional city. Most of corporate plans have the word "project" in it. Not trying to prove you wrong though.
It's so sad this song got switched. This song could've been illumination's Hellfire. Instead, we god How bad can i be. I'm not saying that's a bad song, but this would've been SO much better
0:20 - 1:40 Calm buildup 1:40 - 3:13 Building up to something great 3:13 - 4:28 Got my whole gang sitting up 4:28 - 4:55 HOLY SHIT THIS IS BETTER THAN METH
This is genuinely a masterpiece full of detail and storytelling, and the film would be so much better if this song was in it. Also, I love the attention to detail near the end with the Once-ler coughing and smoking. Also throughout the animatic his eyes look tired but at the same time crazy. It really makes him seem out of control, threatening and powerful as if he can’t get enough to satisfy himself.
"How Bad Can I Be?" is how the Onceler saw himself...
Biggering is what *actually* happened

Which would trigger more coughing, I could never do an animation like that
3:00 I like that he has gru working on his city project
I can imagine that whole meme
lol
I've seen 2 animations recently, one has nice art work and colours, but this one fits the song almost perfectly and seems like it was ready to be placed in the movie, nice job!
Thank you so much!
I know everyone is talking about how raw and brutal this animatic is, but I’m here to comment on 1:03.
Look at him.
LOOK AT HIM.
Biggering will always be my favorite villain song, sonce. I first listened to it in 2022.
Like just.. 👌 Excellent
Thank you so much! And yes, I agree the Once-ler was meant to be a full villain. A sympathic one, sure, but not misunderstood.
@@PeppermintLife5yep, but they tried to make it that it was his family, which was stupid, the family sucks
The final 2 minutes is always where that creativity grows
Indeed. It's where the song really kicks up.
@@PeppermintLife5 yup, the first part of the animation is usually fairly similar to other animations cos not much to do, final 2 minutes is where u prove ur animation creativity
4:03, That’s so smart of you to do, It makes sense other companies are competing against his and he wants his the biggest, so he keeps on Biggering
At 3:56 you can see it a whosit because in the old version of the opening song Ted says he wants a Whosit i think
I adore how this storyboard starts small and very minimalistic, but soon becomes more detailed and grander, just like the actual song.
Yo! That was sick!
Biggering.... Still one of those songs that go hard...
And you certainly did it justice with your cool animation 💜✨✨✨✨✨
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it!
And yes, this song slaps so hard.
I like when he shouts WHO CARES IF SOMETHINGS ARE DYYYIIING trees fall then a bird lies on the floor dead
Okay, come on. This is the best adaptation of Biggering when not trying to fit in with the movie this goes ALL out
I love the fact that at the line “And the PR people lying!” It shows a newspaper with the once-ler saying he wasn’t aware about the gluppity-glup and shloppity-shlop polluting the rivers.
Thank you. Figured it was a simple yet realistic portrayal.
@@PeppermintLife5 you actually showed how Companies act with incidents
"I hear things are just as bad up in Lake Erie"
he forgot to put an 'and'
an excellent upgrade! compared to its predecessor. I also really like the stills during the credits.
Thanks! Real proud of this version. The stills were fun to draw, telling the story in a few images.
Very, VERY good animatic, brutal depiction of the impact on nature that Thneed Corp has, very nice allusions to real life corporatePR cover stories and excuses (we didn't know about it, etc etc)
I do think it could benefit from more faceless Once-Ler imagery though.
Thank you so much! That was something I wanted to at least acknowledge since it's a real thing, and also 'cause it hits harder.
4:24 I SWEAR THIS IS- M A J E S T I C (im so mentally ill that i only live laugh love greed-ler
Thank you!
I agree that the song was too dark for at least the version of the film we got, though I wish they kept the serious/dark tone.
That or the big company didn't want a song that really hit home how terrible big greedy companies are
@@luckytrap897 yup. Too mature for the small audience. They wouldn’t understand and I don’t think parents want to explain it
If they made a PG-13 version then maybe they could get away with it?
@@DankFirewolf I never knew things could be 13’s 😂
And yeah if it was a PG they could definitely get away with it
It's interesting how the original concept for this movie took a darker side and called out large companies for consciously doing all these terrible things that hurt the world and all that are living in it, only for the big companies to have them change the story to something lighter and have the boss of the big bad company not realize the harm he was doing to the world so that he could go and say, "I had no idea this was happening, I'm so sorry".
4:45 really made him look like a demon
I've seen four Biggering animatics, and this is the only one that has extra time at the beginning to help establish the tone. Well done.
I love how it went from showing one to three trees being cut at a time.
It's a very subtle but meaningful change.
And to think this song was going to be in the original for The Lorax, and was replaced but that pile of crap "How Bad Can I Be"
Nah, how bad can I be is better. But if they took out the stupid lorax part of this song then biggering would be better
i can picture it in the animation style of the movie. would've been amazing.
Yeah, it would've...
You can't imagine how much time I spent watching this video over and over😭thanks for making this
You're welcome :)
4:28
I love how this song acknowledges how much greed he had even if it hurt the animals and lying about things. He is now aware of what he is doing and doesn’t care. And is not just unaware like in the movies official song(How Bad Can I Be). “Who cares if some THINGS are dying” is so much better than “who cares if some TREES are dying.”
Btw this animation is great!
The first eleven seconds already makes the onceler a menace to humanity
If I was president, this is my #3 priority. Making a movie from this.
Mr. Beast: finally someone who gets it!
Can i just say The Oncler standing on a crane with his factory growing in the back ground and ash and smog filling the skies is a VERY intimidating spectacle, high marks from me.
I love at certain scenes you change the colors from blue to red to symbolize the evil that is going on
This might be my favourite Biggering animatic yet, and that's saying something because I have seen A LOT of Biggering animatics
Thank you, glad you think that!
In the "hbcib" version, yes. He didn't mean to hurt anyone. But, in "biggering" He knows EXACTLY what he's doing
This animatic should be fully animated. "The Lorax" deserved to be better than Illumination was willing to make it. You did an exceptional job with the screenplay, not to mention capturing the entire message effectively as a whole.
This is very well done. This little animatic is pretty much exactly how I imagine how the song would go in the movie
I think “How Bad Can I Be” works good as the first song, and “Biggering” could be a good second song for him once he has “reassessed his needs”, just like the lyrics say.
whys this song literally getting me hyperfixated on the lorax again..
This is a great animatic I wish there were more for this song
Thank you! And yeah, I wish so too.
I’m so glad more animatics are being made for this song over a decade later

This song would have saved the character sure it was dark but it would show the audience what happens in life and to not be greedy for anything or everything.
I being honest, the amount of injustice this song received is amazing. AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY.
We will never see the original project, and this song basically tells me how selfish, careless, egoistical the Once-ler is. The movie never showed this side..I mean they did but not in a good way.
This animatic is underrated. It’s so good 😭
I LOVE THE PART WHERE HE WAS STANDING ON THTE LIFTING PLANKS W THE ASHESS OGGHH
One of my favorite frames to draw!
This is incredible, the animation adds a lot of punch to the already amazing music, especially in the second half of the song.
I love how you also made stills of other moments of the story in the credits, makes me wish for a full movie in this art style
Thank you! That was one of my favorite parts to do, almost recreating the story in my mind :3

It's just a principle of nature after all
And this is why i wish the lorax was pg 13
This is a much more graphic and realistic portrayal than the movie. I kind of wish they made it a PG 13 movie and then went all out with the message about corporate consumerism and hurting the environment.
2:59 I love how you made a reference to The Willow Project cuz this shit isn't just fiction.
Featuring the word "project" doesnt refer to Willow Project! Its about Thneedville, the fictional city. Most of corporate plans have the word "project" in it.
Not trying to prove you wrong though.
it's so well animated i keep watching it over and over again and i cant stop
It's so sad this song got switched. This song could've been illumination's Hellfire. Instead, we god How bad can i be. I'm not saying that's a bad song, but this would've been SO much better
Fantastic work!
1:57 that is smooth
0:20 - 1:40 Calm buildup
1:40 - 3:13 Building up to something great
3:13 - 4:28 Got my whole gang sitting up
4:28 - 4:55 HOLY SHIT THIS IS BETTER THAN METH
2:41 also good job
Its Ironic how the Once-Ler is Smoking like how the 1972 Once-Ler did, while the trees and everything being dead is already affecting the air
I like how this animatic is MUUUCCHH darker than other ones.
by "Dark" are people talking about the greed? Or something else?
The second part was really really good!
Thanks!
that is FIRE !!
I absolutely love the refrence to the 1972 cartoon where he has a curtain that depicts a healthier Truffula Valley
Thank you! That curtain said a lot about the Once-ler's character and I wanted to keep it in.
You captured the feeling so well, I can see this as a scene in the actual movie
this is so awesome, i would've 100% preferred this instead of How bad can I be
Yes, the how bad one is a bop, but this is so much better
This is amazing!
It captures the essence of the original vision for the once-ler, and I love your art style! Smooth animation too.
Thank you so much!!!
