Very nice Science. Now save my poor Hoarder's Heart by making a Locking System for that last Hopper into the Container so that Burnificator doesn't have to happen.
This explains so much about my last world. We had an enormous library with dozens of chests full of each enchanted book and backup enchanted gear, sitting on top of 40 librarians. I always assumed it was the chests and villagers. I guess the books made it worse.
Great stuff guys! Do you think that it playing catchup on every second tick would explain why stackable item sorting systems are so unreliable on Bedrock? Yeah I know it can be mitigated by using target blocks instead of repeaters but they're still not as reliable as Java's equivalent. I wonder if water streams would help with the shulker boxes?
I have a feeling the spike and catch up is probably queues of hopper updates that are getting processed every tick. I'm not sure the item sorter is actually the issue because I have a smelter array fed with bamboo using a water stream and occasionally it will skip a non-full hopper and go to the next. I think hoppers just have some inherent wierdness that makes them skip items sometimes, perhaps if the same hopper has too many pending updates or perhaps tick timing. From what I understand of the main item sorter issue, it's specifically related to repeaters. I've had all sorts of issues with timing and repeaters on other things and given comparators only process on odd-numbered ticks perhaps repeaters also don't process every tick.
Foxy Foxy Foxy foxy hows your day.. So. Id love to see this tested with an actual auto sorting system. See how many you can have before the lag is really noticable. And how much is to much
Is protection 4 on 3 items of gear better than blast 4, fire 4 and projectile 4? I’ve always thought it is but that info is from Java? Is damage calculated the exact same on bedrock?
At present, a shulker box with bee nests or hives (with bees inside) causes lag but only to the item itself. Any other shulker can be dragged around smoothly in a chest, but a bee shulker cannot. Try with one of those!
After placing 3740 *double* chests, 5540 hoppers, and completing 340 rows of item sorters, I started noticing serious lag on console (Nintendo Switch), and this is not what I wanted to hear. And I was only 35% through with the build :(
@ktorn1 bro a Nintendo switch is barely a step above a phone in processing power. It's by definition a mobile device. How did you think you could handle literal thousands of hoppers and chests as well as a bunch of circuitry going off? I doubt even non mobile console players could handle that well
You think that lag with the barrels on enchanted books? You havnt seen my hacked nested shulker full of all hacked items I've ever had, I can't even place it without my game crashing

Im running a server with 4 people, and its getting 3GB of ram... hardware is top tier stuff for servers so that shouldn't be an issue. Server is running on vanilla, but i will switch to paper soon. How many hoppers / observers roughly estimated could i use in a certain radius before noticing?
Can you please update the Offhand Addon, because I have to switch the New Touch Controls, and the New Controls are not more in Vanilla to activated and with packs, the Offhand Addon not work.
I disagreewith this ihave a kelp farm with furnace array and before putting composters on the hoppers my farm was very laggy after it was greatly improved
Take the measurement across 2 ticks (1 redstone, 1 not), then divide by 2 to get a rolling average tick. Then use that number to average across 5 seconds.
Someone finally testing this properly bedrock needed this
I am loving the myth busting. Are you going to make a play list with them all?
That's a good idea

What this mostly shows is that hoppers don't create much lag - you need truly insane amounts of them to see a difference,
My gold farm I couldn't even walk around my hoppers without tons of lag. I put compostors over every Hopper and I had no problems
Are you on the bedrock platform?

27:42 nope, just have a powered hopper at the end of the line.

What if I advanced pickblock a barrel full of bee nests with 4 bees, then full another barrel with that and pickblock it again?
I guess that's the end of my Storage System 9001.
Thanks Minecraft for crushing my project with impressive amounts of lag and making me glad I quit

From the wiki: "The term redstone tick is a unit of time that describes a delay of two game ticks."
Are water conveyer belts more or less laggy than hoppers and droppers?
I would extend this to say it's probably not just enchanted items but nonstackables in general
maybe but enchanted non stackables do have more data

why have i found this so fascinating??? Because it is!

Any chance that you will release this TPS meter for public use? (maybe make it only show in creative or spectator as well?)

I'm definitely not that technical so does this mean the obsession with locking hoppers in storage systems matters or doesn't?
Now… powered hoppers?

I mean the proof is in the pudding 😂
Do you play on Java Edition or Bedrock Edition?
You must do a lot of testing and show the results on RUclips..............
