- With little hope of the genocide in Gaza subsiding, dock workers in major Italian port cities have organized strikes and large demonstrations to halt arms shipments to Israel. These actions are a direct response to the refusal of international institutions and governments around the world to confront the carnage. Though the genocide continues, the dockworkers’ industrial disruption offer us a model of resistance. Will the Italian way spread to the imperial core - and can it end the genocide?

Chris I'm an american watching you and other online voices. It is my opinion that only an organized movement here can affect change. If there is any way that you and other well known online voices could communicate with one another and plan online a movement ( such as a work and purchase strike for 1-2 weeks) we can take back our power. Protests will not stop what's going on here. But if we stop commerce, then we take away their fuel ( $)

I agree. Public opinion hasn't and won't change anything. We need to cost them power and money. The only way to do that is primary every incumbent at every level of government. Anyone who says they are a friend of Israel or Israel has a right to defend itself needs to go.
These protests were largely organized and in support of Italian dockworkers who are on strike, shutting down ports that export weapons to Israel. That is the organized resistance you are looking for. Look to them, and other labor movements across the world and time to find success stories of workers using their labor power to wrestle back power from the State and its owners. Look also to other movements that have successfully fought back against imperialism and apartheid. Vietnam successfully rid itself of French and American occupation, South Africa defeated apartheid, Haiti rejected France and created a new State of former slaves, Cuba, Mexico, etc.... Look how these movements were organized, what worked for them and what did not.
There is a short book called Labor Power and Strategy by John Womack Jr. which I would recommend for getting great perspectives about what to focus on when organizing labor from various union members and labor activists from across the world.
@_tr@_trbrso appreciate your great info. However I am a frustrated, impatient 80 yr old who would really like to see the folks on instagram unite and start a movement. I do not believe a movement will be started by labor unions here. The ties between everyone in power and Trump seem inseparable ie: Amazon, Meta, Networks, Universities etc. Big business is too fearful to lose $$$. A movement by the "people" seems more possible. I don't regard Americans as brave, like citizens of foreign countries. But there are enough angry, frustrated people here that might show up for a general strike if it could be organized. Maybe not😳😪
