I went to Oman for a business trip and among my personal work, I decided to prepare a report with my dear friend Sulaiman, who owns Rozna restaurant in Muscat. A report on one of the very old and famous Omani dishes made with baby shark. We had a complete trip to Oman before and we took a very cool video with Ms. Sepideh, which is now on Mr. Taster's RUclips channel and you can watch it if you haven't seen it. The famous Omani dish called Masurat Awaal, is made from baby shark meat.
Because it was not the season for baby sharks, Suleiman and I had to visit several fish markets and other markets in Muscat until finally we were able to find it with difficulty. We are going to make Masurat Awaal and a soup with baby shark spine, which is very, very strong. Something interesting that they told us about drying and salting the fish is that in the old days, because there was no refrigerator, they dried the fish, because sometimes due to the wind the fishermen could not go to sea to fish fresh fish, and had to use dried fish. To make this dish, they use dried salted baby shark, which the special cut of the baby shark, is put on a clothesline to dry, similar to the way they dried meat in Chabahar (Tabahag).
Then it was boiled, and after chopping the shark meat, it was mixed with chili flakes, fresh lemon juice, garlic, white onion, thyme, and ginger, and it is eaten with rice with ghee. I must say it was extremely delicious. They also have a soup that was actually made with the baby shark's spine and they said that it is great and works like Viagra. This soup also has white or red onion, chives, zaatar, chili flakes, lemon juice along with the baby shark's spine. It is freshly made and it is very tasty and nutritious.
