  • Hedvig Elisabeth Charlotte was a German princess who married the brother of Gustav III, the king of Sweden. It was hoped that her arranged marriage to a Swedish duke would help secure the succession to the crown. It turned out that in the end Charlotte was not able to produce an heir. What she accomplished though was offering a written account of life at the Royal Court during the late part of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. She was a very intelligent princess who found her vocation in life through writing.

    I am sorry I haven’t been watching your videos for the last few weeks. I enjoyed today’s video as well. There is a difference between videos made with love and videos made for commercial purposes. This is one of the very lovely videos. I love history, which is why I also love this channel. Keep going!

    Sad about her children

    • @livesandhistories
      @livesandhistories  3 года назад +3

      Yes. I was thinking if she had had children history would have been different. No problems for the succession to the crown, Bernadotte would have not probably been king ... life is weird. Thank you for watching.

      15 year old marriage with 25 year old would be called paedophilia these days. Looked beautiful like her mother. People of promiscuous character don't have children usually due to STDs as we now discover.

    What other people besides Bernadotte were being considered to inherit the throne?

    • @livesandhistories
      @livesandhistories  Год назад +1

      Initially, Charles XIII of Sweden adopted Charles August, a Danish Prince, as his son and heir. But the Crown Prince died shortly after; therefore, his brother, Frederick Christian II, was chosen as his replacement. As this agreement lasted only 2 weeks, the final choice fell on Bernadotte.

      @@livesandhistories so no other candidates were in the running other than Bernadotte? For instance, not Swedish or from a royal background?

    • @livesandhistories
      @livesandhistories  Год назад

      @@hepsabaptron00 As far as I know, Gustav, Prince of Vasa, the grandson of Gustav III of Sweden, was nominated by the Gustavian Party to be recognised as Crown Prince, but this proposal was not successful.
