    I wish they would use a clear metric for timing pit stops.
    My opinion: start the clock when the vehicle first crosses into the box, and stop the clock when the car exits the box. I feel like this would offer much better clear problems that may have happened on pit road that may not have been caught in the moment. Slid through your box? Had to back up to get out of your box? Those kinds of things would show up then and be easier to seek out for analysis.
    You could also start when the first crew member touches the car, and stops when the last crew member releases the car.

    pit stop timer starts when the jack posts on the right ride and stops when it drops the left side. that will only judge the crew though. if you time it from car entry into and out of the pit box it will be the combination of driver and pit crew. for a pit stop, in my opinion, its a combination of the whole team, so much goes into getting these cars/trucks serviced in as few seconds as possible. and thats my 2 cents

    • @ba.diecast24
      @ba.diecast24 9 месяцев назад

      It was actually because NASCAR themselves wanted to swap to the 18” wheels for cosmetic reasons and in order to do that, they had to switch to a single lug system because 18” aluminum with 5 lugs wasn’t strong enough and 18” steel wheels were way too heavy.
      TLDR: NASCAR switched it solely for appearance reasons

    I miss older bigger cars, and the tires that gave way faster. I know Goodyear is working on it. People complain about short track racing, but if watch the old Bristol races they ran nose to tail. A train. They changed the track, Florida they changed the track. Now they put that grip stuff on the track. So the car is different but it races the same, competition wise. So far the big change I think is the tire. Tires need to change. My opinion.

    • @ba97racing
      @ba97racing 9 месяцев назад +60

      How is 1 lug absolute garbage in Cup when it works in literally every other major motorsports series in the world?
      Your answer is....the crews. These are literally the fastest pit stops being accomplished with 1 lug (that don't have 3 people focusing on one wheel). The crews are to blame for this. Its a speed vs safety deal. The teams car ensure the cars have all 4 tight but at yhe expense of hundreths of a second on pit road. Its a balance but its NOT the lug or design fault.

      @ba97racing Exactly. In almost all of the other motorsports with 1 lug (Imsa/Wec, Indycar, etc...) they all have to wait for fuel during pit stops. This results in them not being as pressed to change the tires quickly and it results in less tires falling off.

    • @YaM0MsAh03
      @YaM0MsAh03 9 месяцев назад +15

      Doesn’t matter if it went 100 laps or 100’ if the lug came off its 100% on the changer of that corner. When properly seated and tightened no lug nut should come off whether it be 1 lug or 5 regardless of being on a racecar or a daily driver.

  • @Victoriap1cu

    Historically pit time is measured as "time the car is stopped in the pit stall". However this has seemed to be changing to "first touch to last touch" of the pit crew. It's very hard to accurately time because there isn't a system to time it.

    I feel the pit stop timer should start from when the car enters the alotted zones to drive through for pit box entry (so as to add driver aspect, but also make it a direct "scoring line" to start the clock), and end the timer should stop when the car leaves the alotted drive off space. It may very well add a second or 2 or tenths, thats fine. Its a difinitive scoring loop to start and stop from.
    You could also say, the moment the pit crew is allowed to jump over the wall, to the time the car is dropped off the jack, but allows room for error of pit crew jumping over too early, or peaving an issue with a wheel not being tight and driver needing to back up and/or jack the car up again

    Once again. Right off the hop. I disagree. 5 lug nuts lets the teams use strategy and skill.. and 1 lug nut is its own challenge yes. But if the car on track is poor and we only make spots in the pits.. then we need a bigger window of mistakes......

    Pls allow the races to be interesting - again. Cookie cutter cars, drivers encouraged to have ho-hum (don't stir up any controversy by complaining about racing rules) personalities, pit crew members inspected by forensic science specialists. Come on - let'em race.

      SFI was an offshoot of SEMA, it was set up by drag racers in the '60s because getting burned alive in invisible flames wasn't any more fun for them that it was for F1 drivers.

    Eric. I often wonder about what type/configuration NASCAR engines are. Obviously they are all V-8. But are they all still pushrod V-8s. Toyota would have had to develope their own pushrod motors I believe. Please tell me American manufacturers are still running traditional pushrod V8s! Thanks in advance, Randy

    I am not sure I really agree with suspension after a wheel comes off. There’s been more wheels coming off during the Next Gen era than the last fifty years or more (according to one post on X). That says to me there’s an engineering design flaw more than a flaw with the tire changers.

    The single lug is NOT why pitstops are more important than ever, pitstops are more important than ever because track position matters more than ever. NASCAR has decided to try and make the series a spec series… I certainly don’t like the single lug because I’m a traditionalist curmudgeon. But the single lug has nothing to do with pit stops being less or more important… NASCAR creating a spec car that creates a bunch of dirty air with no tire fall off is.
