same exact malfunction with my g20 gen 5. happened with 4 different kinds of underwood ammo (200 hard cast, 220 hard cast, extreme penetrator and 180 jhp) Glock said that their gun is not rated for these loads as they're too hot in their email reply. very disappointed .
The dual spring RSA and mag spring of the Glock are known to sometimes be stiff. Manually cycle the slide about 500 times. Takes less than 5 minutes. If you still need to, exercise the mag spring. After that, cycle some dummies to polish the extractor and breechface. I'd suggest doing this on any semiauto before trusting it.
I think a lot of these 10mm need to be fired about 300 times to break them in. The only 10mm I own that I had issues out of is my S&W M&P 2.0 10MM. Load a mag of normal Fiocchi JHP and it fails when you first rack it, stove pipe. Then fails when firing. I haven't shot it in a long time, but I did replace the upper spring with a 24 pound Wolf spring. I hear it might be the magazine springs. I did not replace the guide rod, just the spring and not sure if that will matter. Anyone know?
Underwood 220 gr load is 8.4 of Longshot an excellent Full Power load in G20. Grizzly Ammo 200gr Hardcast the best in 200gr and 21 BHN it load is 8.5 of Long Shot . Wolff Extra Power Springs in Mags for G20 and 22 pound spring.
I think you may have just described what their problem is, Glocks are kind of RSA sensitive it seems. Don't know why, but it may be that them shooting 220.hardcast is throwing the spring out of balance and changing the timing. Wonder if they went up a little bit, if it wouldn't make it run good?
I don’t go any heavier than 200gr projectiles in 10mm. The extra theoretical benefit of a 20 grain heavier bullet is not worth the documented decrease in reliability with some guns in my opinion. Hi-Point slides have resistance at the back of its travel. That is where the trigger gets reset. Once the trigger is reset you will not encounter it again until after the gun is fired and the trigger needs to be reset again. Also if you try to keep your trigger finger in contact with the trigger in the same place not lifting off or sliding around it may help tighten your groups up. 👍
As cool as the spicy 10mm is, and as nice of an outdoorsman’s cartridge a full tilt 10mm makes, a lot of guns simply can’t handle that load reliably, as Chuke and his buddies, as well as many others are finding out. This might be an old way of thinking, but I think the excessive use of polymers used in guns chambered for these magnum type cartridges is a mistake. I suspect these polymer guns were intended for the more mass produced 10mm ball practice ammo that performs more similar to .40 S&W. Even Chuke finds the price of this buffalo bore a bitter pill to swallow and retains only 10 rounds for his own use. I’m not so sure that I’d even trust the three guns left standing, plus the M&P 10, which didn’t even qualify since it’s got a terrible reputation already. I’d need to see more than 10 rds fired through each. My number is 50. I’ve seen multiple magnum revolvers knock down 50 magnum loads in a row no problem. These polymer semi autos capacity advantage means nothing if they aren’t reliable with the heavy loadings.
Hey chuke, how did the sig sauer p220 hunter 10 mm feel compared to these? I found one only fired by the shop to test , it was a trade. Gorgeous, had to buy! Almost paid it off!
@@ChukesOutdoorAdventures cool! It’s low capacity, but in ny max capacity is only 10 rds anyway… for black bear, probably pretty solid. Thankfully no grizzly down this way! Great videos! Love your Sasquatch and supernatural type videos too! Have a great day!

Recently discovered if you CLP the Taurus mags they tend to feed better. Of course that was with 40 S&W wolf ammo but she went from jamming to feeding just fine.
My thoughts from first hand observation. Great bears are massive, powerful, and very fast. Situational awareness is your best friend. If a bear charges you from 25 yards, you have 2 maybe 3 shots at best to deter his attack. After that he is on you. I always carried a Ruger SS Blackhawk 4 5/8 barrel in .45 Colt. My hand load was a Nosler 300 grain partition at 1,100-1,200 fps. I own a Smith 1006 10 mm, but if I am playing I bet my life, a revolver in a LARGE caliber is always my carry.
Hi Chuke, The gen 5 Glock 20 has a sharp square cornered extractor where the cartridge feeds up under the claw. You can physically feel the kerchunk as the round attempts to make the transition from magazine to extractor, if you concentrate on that as you shoot, albeit shooting slowly. If you slowly ride the slide by hand when chambering a round it will be evident. It’s the same with both of my gen 5 20’s. I used a ceramic stone from Brownells to gently break the sharp edges on the bottom of the extractor. They both feed effortlessly now. I’m guessing that there are some small differences between the gen 5 extractors and the gen 3-4 extractors, since my gen 3 Glock 29 extractor has never been an issue. I know, I know, a factory firearm should be good to go right out of the box. Fortunately, I have a background tuning 1911 pistols and this is a known modification for their extractors. Since performing this simple mod I have had no issues with the gen 5 Glock 20’s with any ammunition, including Underwood. I haven’t tried Bison Barrel yet.
Awesome video and expensive. I just wanted to point out that the mag failures with 220HC usually occur when the magazine is at full capacity. Especially the Sig.

On video, as one could see, grip appeared to be a big variable. In some ways i reckon that mimics actual "flight or fight" scenarios, and knowing if a gun can run that way is great. But equalizing that between tests seems to be a factor here. Not being there, this is just a 2 cent video observation.
I don’t think I can bring myself to pull the trigger on a polymer 10mm. I haven’t personally had a lot of luck with customer service. If CZ ever made some equivalent of their 75 in that caliber, I’d go for it. But I like my steel.
@@ChukesOutdoorAdventures I just bought one and replaced the mags spring and the guide rod spring. Never shot it yet but I will test it this weekend. Crossing my fingers.

Have you ever done a side by side gen 3-4-5
I would prefer all new mags in all them because that’s what you would get if you needed to buy them.
I’ve had 3 Glock 20’s over the years, (currently own one a gen 3) but picked up the new gen 5 Glock 20 and I had multiple FTFeed issues. I sold it “like new” and never looked back. The gen 3 is absolutely solid.
Wonder what's going on with Gen 5? All of my other Gen 5's are great, and my Glock 20 Gen 4 has been flawless with everything I've run through it.
@@BlueRidgeCritter The slide is too light is what I made sense of it. The gen 5 slide is much lighter than the previous gens.
How’s the Taurus run on non hard cast ammo? How about some hot Underwood XTP?
Thats why a big revolver is a must in bear country. Never an issue, it isnt going jam. When your life depends on a fast couple of shots in bear country, 44mag or upwards in a revolver 😉
Good point
What about 41 magnum, hell I live in Alaska and I carry 357
@@mr.alaska2232 I would rather a heavy 44 mag over the other 2 in brown bear country imo. No brown bears then the 357 would be a good carry. Revolvers are also a better option in my opinion in brown bear country. Heavy 44 mag rounds have so much more energy than 357. Try comparing at the range, youll see what i mean.
Revolvers aren't as reliable as striker fire guns when dirty

I totally agree 👍 🤝 👌 👏
i shoot a tangfoglio stock 2 10mm 22 pound recoil spring, all i use is buffalo bore 220 hardcast, shoots like a 9mm, double stack, double action
Tangfoglios are the best!
Is the Glock 20 gen 5 the only Glock 20 to have problems?😮

Why haven't you guys tried the Doubletap 200gr Hardcast Solid 10mm? It's rated at 1300 fps from a Glock 20. This is one ass kickin round.
Had similar issues with jamming(ejecting) underwood ammos in 220 with my glock 40..
Underwoods coated Hard Cast always worked for me reliably in my 10mm's while the BB uncoated one sometimes didn't.
I am surprise with the Glock, my gen 4 works with everything and so did my sig xten, XDM and S&W. I haven't tried my Hipoint yet and I need to get the Taurus. Great video 😁
XDM 👍✔️of all my friends yes far less issues. Sig 220 no issues either.
Yep
I have been noodling on this more.... Does one realy need 10mm ammo larger than 180 grain bullets?
I also had a lot of failure to feeds with my Glock 20 Gen 5 and it also chewed up a magazine. Switched to a XDM elite 3.8 not one single problem.
How come you did not run the Buffalo Bore 10 mm 240 grain through the old M&P?
Don’t have one any more. Too much of a pile 💩
Did any bullet tumble? Round holes in the target?
They sleep on that YEET cannon Chuke!😂😂😂😂😂 I might buy one just for fun🤷🏾♂
Haha yep!!
Try a M&P 2.0 10mm as mine has been a winner.
He has, it has been a failure
M&P Epic Failures left and right and twice on Sundays. Never again!
Seen many in the 4.25" version none in the performance center 2.0 10mm 5.6" variant
@@gumps1986 early ones yes. But mine has been customized and quad ported by Mag-Na-Port and I don’t have anything to complain about.
@@DeusRegum mine is the 4.625 inch model and using a Carver Custom HEAVY tungsten guide rod and quad ported by Mag-Na-Port it works perfectly. No problems.
I haven't tried the 220 hard cast, but my M&P has ran a lot of warmer loads from BB and others without any issue.
same exact malfunction with my g20 gen 5. happened with 4 different kinds of underwood ammo (200 hard cast, 220 hard cast, extreme penetrator and 180 jhp) Glock said that their gun is not rated for these loads as they're too hot in their email reply. very disappointed .
👍
I agree. The 220gr. Cant do anything that the 200gr cant do.
Are ten rounds enough to evaluate a pistol?
Hey chuke, how did the sig sauer p220 hunter 10 mm feel compared to these? I found one only fired by the shop to test , it was a trade. Gorgeous, had to buy! Almost paid it off!
They are amazing. Really solid pistols. Just a little heavy with the capacity being a little too low for me. Great option though
I love those SIG Sauer P220 10mm Auto all-steel hammer-fired 5" pistols, especially in their frame-mounted decocker DA/SA SRT Trigger configurations.
My dream gun... maybe someday when I can afford one.
Good things! 👍
Show me how fast can you draw and show me from the holster you can hit center mass 2 shots within 2 seconds.
I'm surprised we don't hear more about the 12 guage for bear defense. Why is that?
Because when hunting you carry a sidearm for protection. Carrying 2 rifles isn't feasible.
Awesome video and expensive. I just wanted to point out that the mag failures with 220HC usually occur when the magazine is at full capacity. Especially the Sig.
Get the ruger super redhawk 10mm and you won't have to worry about limp wristing or cost of ammo goes bang everytime when it comes to dangerous game defense Revolvers Rule 😊
Great stuff as always. I shoot it in my 1911 RIA FS TAC II and Glock 29 X-Grip.
I’m not sure what stings more- the Glock failure, or the price of the ammo!
Right
Buffalo bore ammo is over priced. They dont have anything that double tap or underwood cant do at cheaper prices too. Never had an issue with either.
@@samtaylor7800÷1 for Underwood
I’m worried about me new Glock 20 Gen 5. I bought it forbear protection here in southeast Bought the underwood heavy’s and it jammed first thing. I watched your video on cleaning, so I cleaned well. Going to try again. Please do a follow up on having. Gen 5 mag
Where's m&p performance center 2.0 10mm in 5.6"
Looked like on 1st shot with the Glock it almost jumped out of his hand then when he gripped it better no issues
Doh! Could be it…
You forgot to say which one you're taking in the woods with you.
Just bought a S&W- M&P - 2.0 in 10mm. 15+1, I think that may be my conceal carry, also have the Springfield Armory XDM elite in 10mm 10+1, so bring on those bad ass bears.
Got the gen 4 and buff-bore and no problems.
No KKM barrel for the G20?
Do they make 180 hardcast in 10mm?
I believe so
XDM for the win! When you shoot off of bench, using a pistol rest, your eyes open wide with which pistol is the most accurate.
Nice watch! Which one is that? Is that part of Chukes tactical watch series?
On video, as one could see, grip appeared to be a big variable. In some ways i reckon that mimics actual "flight or fight" scenarios, and knowing if a gun can run that way is great. But equalizing that between tests seems to be a factor here. Not being there, this is just a 2 cent video observation.
I don’t think I can bring myself to pull the trigger on a polymer 10mm. I haven’t personally had a lot of luck with customer service.
If CZ ever made some equivalent of their 75 in that caliber, I’d go for it. But I like my steel.
Can’t blame you there…
What about FN 510?
It’s still one of the best…
Where is your S&W 10mm?
It kept failing. It’s long gone.
@@ChukesOutdoorAdventures I just bought one and replaced the mags spring and the guide rod spring. Never shot it yet but I will test it this weekend. Crossing my fingers.
You went from loving the XDM to saying it was inferior to your stupid Glock, and now are finally realizing how superior the XDM is.
Sadly i feel glocks 10mm's are under sprung. I have always changed the recoil springs out to 22-24lb and they have always run exceptionally well with full house loads. The glock oem recoil springs are to weak.
You failed your Glock 😢
lol
Where did you find the Buffalo Bore?
Taurus gonna b Taurus
What brand is that hoodie Chuke, it looks super comfy!! Also, would the G20's be GTG with a quality aftermarket barrel? I keep debating on whether to get a 10mm conversion barrel for my G21 or stick with .45 Super since I already have a Storm Lake ported .45 barrel.
I think the TH10 just dosen't like that ammo because I run reloads on mine without issues..GB guns ran multiple grains from different manufacturers on it without any failures so I think it's just that anmo
I’m cheering over here!!! I have both the XDM and the hi point!!!!!! I was hoping that the hi point would survive since that is what I will be traveling with
Haha you came out on top!!!
My Gen4 Glock 20 loves the Underwood 220 hardcast. I haven’t tried Buffalo Bore yet.
Did you not get magazines when you bought it? My G40 (gen 3 though) never did that.
I don’t have problems with my Glock but my ex did, she’d get failures and I didn’t know why but limp wristing shouldn’t be an issue just like lead shouldn’t be an issue in my opinion, none of the gun experts warned me about these things when I bought my first gun, a g20, specifically for bear pro
a good pistol will not fail with a limp wrist. it should always cycle.
Cool vid. Still haven’t had a chance to run hard cast through my FN 510, so I was hoping you would have used one- maybe a part 2 🤣. Do you shoot out in the valley or is that range in Anchorage? Also, where do you get your ammo? I’ve been to several places in the valley and no one had Underwood or BB 200gr in stock! You can tell it’s Spring in Alaska 👍🏼
I've fired plenty of heavy through my G40. Can't recall a malfunction.
wished you could have included the fn 510 tactical, but good video.
Love the 10mm content glad I found this channel went to Montana in last week feb and beginning March came across fresh bear scratch high in tree and track found out latter that that trail had man eaten by grizz and they didn’t destroy it so yeah bought 10 mm never thought I needed in Texas but Montana trip planned June and Alaska soon so thanks for the education
Limpy McGlock makes his regular cameo appearance on Chuke’s Outdoor Adventures.
Doh!
Gen 4 g20 is my go to sold my gen5. The gen4 is the most reliable
Is that Birchwood??
Did he miss firing the Sig?
Perhaps there is another spring you could change to. That would be more reliable.
I have g20 gen 3. Hasnt failed me but i never shot buffalo bore hard cast out of it
Why didn’t you test with the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0?
Lol glock fail 😂. Right on . 🎉 Springfield for the win and sig. Hi-point thought do great but way heavy. Know Taurus looks like it least tried. 10mm was based around 200gr. So 200gr hard cast should work well if u handload at right spec.
I kinda want a G40 so I’m interested in this test
I've got 2. Never a failure. Shoot all kinds of ammo. Great guns
