*I turned down the ergonomic chair as I’m bedridden for 20-23hrs a day, so it wasn’t needed for me. I also turned down support sessions as I was too unwell to attend them.*
This is so helpful, I didn’t even know that this could be possible. I’m in a relapse of M.E/CFS and have been wondering about how I might cope at uni so this video is so encouraging 💜
Iz Ro I’m so glad it was helpful and me either! It’s amazing, isn’t it! 😊 One day you’ll get there! I never thought I’d be where I am now (still fairly ill but excited for uni and for the future!) so it really is possible, the fact you’re even thinking about it at all is a great sign! Please don’t lose that hope, it’s going to lead to wonderful things eventually 😊 Comment or message me on instagram (Georginas_journey) if you ever have any questions or want to talk about anything 💗
I have MS and am thinking about going through DSA but was worried it would be like an Esa or Pip assessment. Would you mind letting me know how your assessment went please Lz?
Ah this was really helpful. I’m planning to start my pgce next year and the extra dsa money is going to make it much easier, especially for getting equipment. ADHD finally paying off
I’m so glad you had a good experience! I had a DSA assessment when I attempted to go back to university (quite a long time ago haha), and had most of the stuff that was recommended to you, although I didn’t really get to use most of it to it’s full capacity because I only lasted a month back at uni. I remember I was really surprised at how much they could help with, although it did take a LONG time for everything to be delivered, so I’d be prepared to do some chasing up phone calls! Xxx
My Chronic Life Thanks! And well done for trying! I have no idea if I’m ready but I’m excited and the most ready I’ve felt since leaving school so I’m going to give it my best shot! Okay haha, I have two months until I start so that should help a bit! xx
This is so helpful, I’m looking to book my assessment soon, and now I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to better manage going to university, I was/am worried about the assessment being another one which is trying to get against you
Georgina's Journey thank you 🤞🏻 I’ve sent my email with everything they need to book my assessment today hopefully I’ll be able to get my assessment done within the next couple of weeks 🤞🏻
To hear that they are doing everything to help you is really nice to hear because I will have a meeting on my Uni in Canada this fall and I'm a bit worried if they really will/can help me... And I didn't know that they are telling you what you need:) I mean I did this in Germany but there we said, I think, what would help me the most.
EvaMuellerreads good luck with your meeting! This was a meeting especially for people with a health condition so that’s why it was so focused on talking about how they can help me, hopefully the finance people approve everything! What university are you going to?
Rocco Reay most people find all of the information helpful- many people asked me to outline what sort of help was available &how long the assessment was etc, which is what I talked about in the beginning
hi. i’ve applied for a dsa for depression i was diagnosed march 1st this year but i’ve knew i’ve had if for the longest time. i don’t know if i’m wasting my time, i don’t know how they can help? i’ve emailed my evidence to slow now it’s just a waiting game. i’m worried i’m going to be judged when it comes to the needs assessment as i don’t really know how they can help me
Socially Unsocial Hi! I don’t know much about how they help with mental health problems but I definitely think it was worth you applying! They have your best interests in mind & will try to help as much as possible, so I don’t think you need to worry about the needs assessment :) It’s there to help & they would have experience with helping people with similar conditions :) One thing they might want to fund for you is mentoring sessions, which can be really helpful to work through problems and get things off your mind & I’m sure there will be other things they can do for you or give you that will help as well! Good luck with everything!
@@emmelinecarter7454if I’m not too late, I’d definitely ask about getting extensions for deadlines if you still can & also for your attendance to be disregarded & permission to attend classes early or late if you can’t make it on time or have to leave early. Best of luck with everything, you’ve got this!
Thank you so much! 💓. Can i please ask you a question? Do you get any direct money because of your condition? I have a mental condition and i thought dva gave you a certain money every year? Correct me if im wrong. If they dont then who gives
Hi! I didn’t get any money, no. I just got equipment, no money for my disability for the whole 3 years I was there. But it may depend on what condition you have, I think I remember a friend telling me that she got money & spent it on a holiday, but I personally didn’t get any money at all.
Thank you this was really helpful! I have my assessment in a couple of weeks and was really worried about it. I'm in my final year of my current course so surprised they agreed I would be eligible as I only have a few months left, but I do want to go on to postgrad. I was only diagnosed this month after years of fighting (HSD and fibromyalgia) so it is a relief to think I can finally get some support! How easy do you find the dictation software to use? X
bollywood kuddi Hi, I’m really sorry, I don’t know about how DSA works for international students as I’m English and so applied as an English student. I wish you the best of luck though!
Saliha Khadim what do you mean? I had one assessment through the DSA scheme and I think the assessment & equipment is government funded- unless your uni is willing to personally fund any additional needs. Hope that helps a bit!

Does dsa affect a maintenance loan I have depression anexity and physical issues?
@@Petropeteo it doesn’t, no! So you can get your full maintenance entitlement AND DSA as well 😊
Hey I am from India and want to apply too so can u tell me if I can apply as I heard that only UK resident can only apply.
bollywood kuddi Hi, I’m really sorry, I don’t know about how DSA works for international students as I’m English and so applied as an English student. I wish you the best of luck though!
An international student with either settled status or indefinite leave to remain in the UK can apply for DSA.
some uni will help international students cover the reasonable needs as they cant get funding from DSA ,its usually mentioned on their website
Thank you Georgina. This was very helpful ☺️
You’re welcome! I’m happy to hear that 😊
How do you know who your funding body is?

The funding body can be student finance. In short the orginsation that sent you to the DSA team
did u get a laptop?
Abdul Official I didn’t, no. But I know some people do get them on DSA!
