Any model with a soft roller head / fluffy roller head brush. At this point, I'd go V10 Absolute or V11 Absolute. V15 fine as well, but overkill for wood floors.
In our tests the V8 was around 73 dB, V11 was around 70 dB. Both of these tests were low power at 3' away in a carpeted room. I would say they are substantially similar.
Both have a 2 year warranty. As far as longevity goes, we just don't have enough time elapsed on the V11 to really say. We bought it when it launched in March 2019, thus far it's still working great, no obvious signs of deterioration. Regarding the V8, the one we frequently test in our videos is borrowed from a friend of Modern Castle. The friends we borrow it from use it as their day to day vacuum and have had it for 3 years. Overall, they love it, it continues to work great, and no issues with the battery. If we see any longevity issues come up I'll be sure to make a post on our website and probably updates here also.
I’m a Dyson sales rep. Speaking as an individual (not as Dyson) my experience has been that the v11 has been the most reliable cord-free vacuum model by far. a lot of changes were made after the v10 which has made the vacuum much more reliable and easier to repair if necessary. I have never seen a v11 battery go blank in my years in the role, the only problem I have has is the trigger spring being dislodged on machines that have had repeated hard drops. This part is independently replaceable though so quite easily fixed by Dyson.
Varies by use. Dyson's warranty covers the battery for 2 years. I would say in general 3-5 years seems to be pretty common based on what we've experienced and heard others experiencing. We have the V6, 7, 8, 10, and 11. Our V6 battery died within 2.5 years. V7 battery is still going strong at 3.5 years. V8 battery died at 2.5 years, but I think it died because I dropped it off a counter while testing it. V10 battery still going strong at 2.5 years. V11 battery still going strong at 1.5 years. Replacement is pretty easy. You just need a screw driver. Takes about 2 minutes. Unscrew it, battery falls out, pop in a new one. You can find replacement batteries here - amzn.to/3eilNil
Hei, what do you think about buying a v8 absolute? I know it’s a little bit older but it’s the only i can afford from them and i would like to lnow your oppinion. Should i buy v8 or better find another vaccuum fron another brand? Thank you!
V8 is still a very solid vacuum. If it's within budget then I'd say go for it. The alternatives from other brands at that price point are not superior to the V8, in my view.
Thanks! That's an interesting idea. What would you imagine would be included in a video like that? While you can buy standalone accessories for Dyson vacuums, most models include a standard set of essential accessories.
Hi, Thank you so much for the review. It was very helpful. Question: does "motorhead cleaning head" work well on tiles? I want to use it mainly for my kitchen area.
Yes, the Direct Drive cleaning head (which is what the Motorhead version uses) works great on all surface types, including tiles and other hard surfaces.
Hi. Thank you for the review. I currently have a V8 and love it. I'm thinking of getting a second cordless for our home. Is the V11 gentle on nice rugs? The V8 seems strong enough for what we need it for and I know it doesn't hurt our rugs, so I was just wondering if you could comment on the V11 since I know it has a different head and stronger suction. Thank you!
Yes, I think it would be. In Eco mode the V11 is less suction than the V8. And if you open the gate on the cleaning head that will keep the suction seal to a minimum.
For tile you really want a soft roller head. So either get the V11 Torque Drive or Animal and add a soft roller head here - amzn.to/321GjPn Or get a V8 Absolute

Sorry, I have another question regarding V8, should I leave the vacuum in charge station all time even it's fully charged? If so, would the battery life shorten? Thank you so much.
When the vacuum is fully charged it should turn itself off and not continue to charge...even if it's still plugged in / on the charger. Personally, I always unplug battery powered electronics when they are fully charged as an extra measure to help extend the life. However, it really shouldn't matter either way due to the Dyson's built in battery saver feature.
I was wondering if you can answer wish one (between this 2 models or any dyson model) has the best rolling suction for hair. Like is any of those able to not get the hair stuck between the brushes? That’s my problem with all my vacuums, since we are 5 woman’s in the house there’s a lot of hair on the floor all the time and it get stuck on my vacuum rolls.
In my experience, every vacuum with a brushroll is going to eventually tangle hair...it's just how much and when. As far as Dyson goes, in general, they do a really nice job of prolonging your time before you'll see a tangle. With only my wife in our home, our Dyson's don't get put to the same test as your house will be with 5 women. That said, the Dyson V11 is going to do better than the V8 due to the larger and more advanced brushroll, in addition to more suction. I would say it is arguably the best brushroll Dyson makes.
Hi. Thank you for this comparision Video i found it very helpful to decide which one to buy. I am really considering buying a v8. One additional thing i was wondering is if the v11 acessories, like the torque drive cleaning head, will also fit on the v8 motor and extension. So that i can get the better performing cleaning head but the v8 motor.
Yes, the V11's cleaner head will fit the V8. And while it will improve performance compared to the stock V8 cleaner head, it will not yield the same performance as the V11 simply due to the differences in suction power between the 2 models.
Please be careful doing this, Dyson doesn’t recommend doing so as the head is rated at a different wattage that they v8 battery was not designed for. It may cause additional strain on the battery and cause additional wear over time
Actually the weight IS a deal breaker for me. I found the V11 too heavy and my wrist aches even if I hold it for a few minutes. The V8 is just perfect. Love it
There's really no solution for that. If that's a bother to you then really none of the Dyson V-series vacuums are a good fit. That's a standard design element of Dyson V-series cleaning heads.

Strange that you didn't mention how long the run times are on max power since I would think most people would want to suck up on strongest power in order to clean best (I mean, otherwise why get a powerful vacuum?).
Dyson V8 max power is 7 minutes. Dyson V11 max power is 12 minutes. Using max power is great when you really do need maximum power, but I certainly don't use it all the time. When I'm cleaning high traffic carpet areas I turn it on. However, for lower traffic areas, tile, hardwoods, and my rugs it really isn't necessarily to get a sufficient clean.
@@ModernCastle Thanks for the fast reply! 12 minutes is a very impressive difference. I still think most people will use their vacuums in high power though - I suppose not if a very light thin rug you wouldn't. But then I have a german shephard husky, a cat and 3 boys and a husband. Can't imagine using lower power for anything lol.
@@Ayram9 You're welcome! I'm not always that fast, but try to answer quickly whenever I'm around the computer. With cat hair and husky hair, I can definitely see your need to use the medium or high power modes. Depending on how large your home is / how much carpet you have you might benefit more from the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright. Especially if you find you clean in long durations and need continual high suction for long periods of time. You can read our review on the Animal 2 here - moderncastle.com/dyson-ball-animal-2-review/ - if that's something you're interested in.
@@Ayram9 don’t use it in high mode all of the time. You may have to with v8 and older units but the v11 medium mode adapts the level of suction based on the floor type, this avoids you wasting battery life, wearing the battery our without reason and ensures you still get the best clean possible for your floor type. The newer v15 now also adapts suction automatically based on how much dust, dirt etc that it detects, further reducing the reliance on the high suction mode.Hope that helps.
He knows that. I watched another one of his reviews and he was biased toward the newer versions. The V8 is the best bang for your buck. Also unless you have the soft roller, the vacuum will perform poorly on hard surfaces
@@mssha1980 In this context does "biased" mean...I prefer vacuums with objectively better performance, more features, higher suction, and a longer run time? The Dyson V8 (Animal) is routinely around $400, so it's hardly a cheap vacuum by any stretch. Not to say the V11 is either, being usually around $600 (for the Animal). In any case, for $200 you get a lot more with the V11 compared to the V8.
I have not tried that. The High Torque cleaning head (it's called High Torque on V11, Torque Drive on V10) will work on the V8, but I don't think the V8 has enough motor power to fully run it. So it's not something I'd recommend for long term use.
Why doesn't anyone talk about the dust bin, the newer model you always have to take off the attachments to empty the bin. SOOOOOOOOOO annoying. The older model you can keep your attachments and still empty! Grrr.
At least for me, I always took the wand / cleaner head off of the old versions also. I found it cumbersome to try and empty the dust bin on the V8 / V7 / V6 while you had this huge weight at the end. Plus, I try to put the bin deeper into the trash can so dust won't escape (something that's harder if you have attachments on). If it was in handheld mode it wouldn't be that big of an issue. In any case, I just didn't find it annoying.
Dyson is gonna make Electric cars..Lol And they can't give you quick charge or removable batteries really! Have the V8 Animal waiting for it. V11 is not worth the extra money you could by a Dyson upright vacuum and V8 no brainer for price of V11.
Couple of things. 1) Dyson is no longer trying to make an electric car (or any car for that matter) 2) The Dyson V11 includes clickable removable batteries, see our review here - moderncastle.com/dyson-v11-outsize-review/
@@ModernCastle You did not mention the batteries in video which is nice feature finally. but Dyson V8 for 299.00 and Dyson V11 for $800.00 is not worth price of $500.00 difference
Bro. Why would you not do the comparison on the same trim. Your using the v8 absolute, yet using the v11 torque drive. The v11 absolute has been out almost a year before you posted this video in January. And with the v11 absolute you get the fluffy cleaning head, which is even upgraded compared to the v10 absolute ect. This is a dumb comparison in the fact that both the same trims were out for each model your testing, yet your using one of the lower trims for the newest.. makes no sense lol.
We are a US based website and RUclips channel. So we buy products available in the US (for the most part). V11 Absolute is not available in the US. V11 Torque Drive is the top end model here. So that's why we use the Torque Drive and not the Absolute (which is only available in a limited number of countries).

In my opinion, Dyson ruined the V8 and others with that extended swivel neck that is now attached to the roller/head. This prevents 'side vacuuming' in odd or narrow spaces as the 'neck' now needs to fit into these spaces along with the head/roller. It also creates this awkward navigation on certain floors and spaces as demonstrated in this video. I wish it was designed to use it the old way with a push of a button or position click. A downgrade for people with lots of furniture or small spaces. Also, the V8 does not have a removable battery, therefore it's non-replaceable. I don't know why this is almost never mentioned in review and comparison videos. Anyone whose ever owned a Dyson knows that the vacuum will usually outlive the battery. If the battery is not replaceable, do you just toss the vacuum? I replaced my 2016's battery twice and just gave this old but still chugging Dyson to a family member. Lastly, there should be an option to have the trigger hold in an on position as the new V8's design causes rapid hand fatigue as the plastic below the trigger digs into the hand.
For the record, the V8 battery is removable and replacable. It's not a click in / click out battery, but you can remove it in about 60 seconds with a screw driver. www.amazon.com/s?k=dyson+trigger+lock&crid=36EZ7JN8Q0O3T&geniuslink=true&sprefix=dyson+trigger+lock%2Caps%2C145&tag=mc_1001-20&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 - Check this out if you want a Dyson trigger lock for your V8.

Superb review. Thanks.
You're too kind. Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it.
the best compare chanel of dyson
Thanks so much, Kan!
I was wondering if you had any information on battery life span and ease off replaceability ?

Nice work. Can you do a video on the best accessories for the Dyson vacuums?
Thanks!
That's an interesting idea.
What would you imagine would be included in a video like that?
While you can buy standalone accessories for Dyson vacuums, most models include a standard set of essential accessories.
Can you use the V8 vacuum backwards?
Not sure I understand what you mean

Great help. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Which one is better for tiles floor ?
For tile you really want a soft roller head. So either get the V11 Torque Drive or Animal and add a soft roller head here - amzn.to/321GjPn
Or get a V8 Absolute

Sorry, I have another question regarding V8, should I leave the vacuum in charge station all time even it's fully charged? If so, would the battery life shorten? Thank you so much.
When the vacuum is fully charged it should turn itself off and not continue to charge...even if it's still plugged in / on the charger.
Personally, I always unplug battery powered electronics when they are fully charged as an extra measure to help extend the life. However, it really shouldn't matter either way due to the Dyson's built in battery saver feature.
@@ModernCastle Thank you so much.

Good job! Thanks
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
I just brought a Dyson V8, but I am very very disappointed. It only works for a bit LESS than 6 minutes on maximum suction. Is this normal?
That is normal. Even the newest / best cordless vacuums only last 8-10 minutes on max.
Love it
Check out the new v12, has the power of the v10 (30% more than v8) but lighter than v8. I agree that the v8 is a great workhorse
@@Clove_Parma hey i just read i i saw that V12's power is only 150AW, while V8's is 155AW, so V8 is stronger? Can u check?
Amazing the way you have described everything😊
Thank you!
What bothers me about the V8 is that I can't remove the brush to clean the plastic holder & brush itself. Suggestions?
There's really no solution for that. If that's a bother to you then really none of the Dyson V-series vacuums are a good fit. That's a standard design element of Dyson V-series cleaning heads.
@@ModernCastle I will live with it & my V8. Thank you for your reply. I noticed another brand, I believe Jimmy, opens on side to remove & clean the brushes & holders.

Phil Fernandes I kept rewinding 😁

Yes, it was virtually flawless at removing kitty litter across all 3 floor types we tested against.
This vid is better than the one from the chick
I have the v8 animal and love it
Nice! Glad to hear it's working well for you.
Have you tried using the Dyson Torque Drive Cleaner Head on the V8? How does it perform? Would it be worth buying the Torque Drive Head for a V8?
I have not tried that.
The High Torque cleaning head (it's called High Torque on V11, Torque Drive on V10) will work on the V8, but I don't think the V8 has enough motor power to fully run it. So it's not something I'd recommend for long term use.
Dysons batteries are not good. The Voltage of the V8 is close to general power tool batteries. A big plus in my opinion.
@@ModernCastle You are an exception then. Emptying V10 and V11 sucks!
I personally don't think it makes sense to keep the attachments on
Yes! This is a deal breaker for me!!
hello
Dyson is gonna make Electric cars..Lol And they can't give you quick charge or removable batteries really! Have the V8 Animal waiting for it. V11 is not worth the extra money you could by a Dyson upright vacuum and V8 no brainer for price of V11.
Couple of things.
1) Dyson is no longer trying to make an electric car (or any car for that matter)
2) The Dyson V11 includes clickable removable batteries, see our review here - moderncastle.com/dyson-v11-outsize-review/
@@ModernCastle You did not mention the batteries in video which is nice feature finally. but Dyson V8 for 299.00 and Dyson V11 for $800.00 is not worth price of $500.00 difference
V8 is better, V11 look strange.
V11 Absolute is great, the only fault with it is its price. I have one and are happy with it.
Bite deutsch,

Oof....so we did, sorry about that, especially if it was confusing.
@@ModernCastle false. I'm in Canada. I ordered my v11 absolute from Amazon. Com US site lol
@@TheKingOfKings818 I'm looking at the US Amazon site's search results for "Dyson V11 Absolute" right now, and the first result is "Dyson V11 Torque Drive", while the 2nd result is "Dyson V10 Absolute." The V11 Absolute is not shown. So I'm going to have to go with Modern Castle here.
I dislike the fact that I have to hold on to the button when I use the vacuum.
Check out the LG CordZero A9 Ultimiate - amzn.to/3bKQds1
It has a similar feature set and performance to Dyson, but without a trigger mechanism (you just press a button to start and stop).
You can also find our review here - moderncastle.com/lg-cordzero-a9-kompressor-review/
