It is good that you removed the deck to see what was going on, but you weren't thorough enough on your inspection. You need to check all the bearings again on those spindles for side to side movement and also the star pattern to see if your blades are loose on the star. If either one is bad replace it. And yes clean that deck. Take a leaf blower or air hose after every use. After you sharpen the blades you need to make sure they are balanced. I know it's not the space shuttle (Taryl quote) but, unbalanced blades will take out your spindle bearings. pound a nail into a wall somewhere and just hang the blade on the star and see if it rotates. At least then you can remove material from the heavy end until the blade doesn't turn on the nail. It's not perfect but at least you will get it real close. Check your idler pulleys up top for wobble and make sure they spin freely and are not excessively loud. That buildup under the spindles is bad, and will cause your spindles to overheat as air from the blades can not help to keep them cool and wreck bearings. The washers for the blades are "cup" washers and yours are done. they look worn and flat and very thin. Please do another video on your mower deck for cleaning and maintenance. I do repairs on these things and the horror stories I could tell you. I had a deck here that the blade was stuck into the side of it from a person who let it go to far before bringing it to me. For the electrical, check the gap in your electric clutch. To much gap means to many Amps being pulled through the switch and wiring, causing something to melt. Usually the back of the switch or plug ends. I enjoy your videos and stay safe out there and we'll see you in the next one my friend. Cheers from Sask.
Hello! This is absolutely why I love RUclips! This is the type of comment that helps society and I want to thank you for taking the time to write, explain, and help others. I have no issues with constructive support. You have made my day. I will do a proper maintenance video shortly and take into consideration everything you mention thank you!
Good stuff Ross. On my timecutter, I ran into an issue with the electric PTO clutch...mine was not intermittent, but was slipping when put under stress (tall grass). I ended up replacing it with an aftermarket model, as the OEM was nearly $500. The Chinese knock-off I bought was about $100 (they ranged in price from $79 to about $150 on Amazon), so I figured if it failed, I could replace it 4 more times and still be ahead of the game. Also, for whatever it's worth, I removed the two plastic pulley covers right out of the gate, and only put them back on the day I sold it. IMHO, the ability to keep that area clean of grass and debris, particularly WET grass (aka rust) far outweighed any exposure issues, which I never had. Just my 2 cents. 👍😎
@@watershedoverlook Hi Chris, thanks for the information. I really should take those covers off they are more trouble than they are worth. I'm beginning to see lots of bills in my future with this thing. It's getting old.
Good afternoon Ross. Good decision to stop and checked out the problem otherwise the blade may have popped off. You may need new washers, over time they wear out. Intermittent electrical issues are always a little more difficult to figure out. I had an issue with the clutch intermittently engaging on my mower at the beginning of the season. I pulled it out and tested it, it was fine. The problem I had was at the switch. Happy cutting!
Ya I think I will get new washers! Thanks. I have been having this intermittent wiring issue for 2 years. The first time I pulled everything apart, and check the seat kill switch, the plunger, the control arms.. now I just reach under and wiggle the connector.
On my lawn tractor, not a Toro or zero turn, had the same issue with the electric clutch sometimes not engaging the blades. Found a You tube video that suggested to check the "gap" between the magnets. Using a spark plug Pin gauge found, thru normal wear, the gap was larger than recommended. Adjusted the clutch by tightening the tension nuts, solved the issue. May not apply to your machine but saved lot of time and money as I was going to buy a new clutch assembly.
Wow! Thank you so much! I never even thought to see if there was an adjustment! I just wiggle the wire and it works but maybe there is more going on here. This is extremely helpful!
Hello!!! Wow Ross, 😮 you must have SAVED yourself A LOT of money and how cool are you to know how to correct the problem. I bet your blade cut smooth-as-butter. AND you filmed & mowed.

Good Day Ross, Very Nice Use Of Your Protective Garage 😇🙏👍Maintenance is Always A Vital Factor 🧐👍💪Nice Music 🎵🎵😎😎👍👍Ross, I think your electric Impact Gun Does not torque enough 🤔👍Keep Up Your OUTSTANDING Videos Cheers 👍🧐👌🍻
I did hit a big boulder. I felt it get tossed around the deck before being spit out. I'm surprised all it did was knock the bolt loose. Hope things are well with you and your family.
Hey Ross, hope your day is running smoothly ,..... regarding that electrical connection, might be an idea for you to pick up a tube of dielectric grease then after cleaning all possible corrosion and or dirt from the connections, apply a dab or so of this dielectric grease ( corrosion proofing ) to both ends of the connectors, and that should take care of that annoying 'no-start' issue. A spray or two of a good quality rust/corrosion inhibitor ( the one that comes in the metallic red can is the brand I use ) will keep a lot of your potential electric woes at bay too. It too, is dielectric.
Good catch. A blade coming off could have really caused a mess. The shaft in the one spindle might be bent. The washers for the blades are commonly spring washers. If they get flattened out or damaged, they won’t work properly. If that’s what it is I think you can get new washers from Princess Auto. Have a good week!
You’re one lucky dude. Loose blade bolts usually go flying into an abyss never to be found. I usually just use the loader or the car lift to get under the deck. Much faster and less back breaking. Cheers bud.
Hello David! Hope everything is well with you. I really should've just lifted it with the tractor! I'll do that next time. And yes I'm surprised the blade didn't shoot off.
😂 you dig through the sockets like I do. One of these days I’ll pick up a new organized set. Good thing you checked out your blades when you did, slinging a blade could have really damaged your deck or hurt someone. I would tighten those nuts with a breaker bar.
Mine definitely does not, but wondering if I should lather some on there or maybe try removing a bearing and putting some inside. It's a consumer grade mower, and not much is serviceable.
The 2 outer spindles have a lot of play in them. I'd replace them. Also the the "washers" for the blade bolts are supposed to be "concaved". This acts like a lock washer and also helps keep the bolts "tight". I'd also recommend replacing them too. Every time you remove the bolt and reinstall it, you "smash" the washer "flat". Eventually, the concave "cup" gets flat and the washer doesn't work as intended. Another thing it could be too. Toro changed the blades around 2020. My mower used to have "blade stiffeners". They were plates that were about 6" long and went between the washer and the blade. But when Toro changed the blade style, they put ridges on the blade to stiffen them, and you had to take off your old stiffeners to get the new blades to fit. Which in some case meant, the bolts were too long to tighten up on the blade. Next time your blades are off see if the bolts will all the way into the spindle without the blades. They should go all the way in.
I used to cut my grass with a tape measure and scissors. Now I just race around like I know what I am doing. All the critters scatter when they hear me coming. I lost a blade once because the garage did not tighten it after they serviced the ride. Never did find it. All the best and stay safe. From: the other end of the valley.

Great job sorting the deck issues, I have not known a blade bolt to come loose before. It does look easy to remove the deck
