Books Mentioned:
We Have Always Lived in the Castle
by Shirley Jackson
Classic, Gothic
My Lovely Wife
by Samantha Downing
Adult, Thriller, Suspense
The Thursday Murder Club
by Richard Oseman
Adult, Cozy Murder Mystery
My Sister the Serial Killer
by Oyinkan Braithwaite
Adult, Literary Fiction
I ADORE the Thursday Murder Club books. I don’t really care about the mystery itself either. The characters drive it entirely. I read the first four and went back and reread the first, and I got a lot more out of it, because I knew the core characters better.
yes exactly! I think I'll continue on the series now so thank you for saying this!! :)
LOVE The Thursday Murder Club books! So funny and so entertaining! Liane Moriarty's books are fabulous!
👻 I love the Thursday Murder Club series. They just get better as they go along. Elizabeth is former MI6, and Ron was the British equivalent of a teamster. I love how Joyce and Elizabeth, and Ron and Ibrahim balance each other. You become so invested in them, and the other side characters, as the series goes on. As a Canadian I love this British sarcastic sense of humour, so it is totally for me. It is a straight-up mystery series, not a thriller.
My recommendation is September House by Carissa Orlando. It is horror with a sense of humour. I would put it in the fridge on the Joey scary scale, so you I think you would like it. Opinion was split, but since you liked the last Grady Hendrix, I think you will like this.
September House is a fantastic book! Scary but also very sad. I suggest looking up content warnings for it though, just in case..
Interesting. I literally liked September House until the last 1/4. Sooooo unrealistic!!!! Pretty much highly disliked it. Am I missing something?
ooooo okay I'll def keep going!!
I made my boyfriend read Thursday Murder Club. I made my mom read. I made my 88 year old grandma read it. I went on a campagin getting everyone to read it. Every character is so near and dear to my heart (yes there's a lot but everyone is so unique and adds to the overall story across the 4 books)
I summarized The Fury as 300 pages of anticlimax told from the POV of a "where's my hug" guy
Hey lexy!! I have a recommendation for you!!! Since you are a dog loves you'll love it. It's called The Dog Who Saved The World. It's awesome!! It's a middle grade sci-fi and set in summer. It'll literally give you warm sunshine feelings. You'll love it!!! Do give it a read!!
oooo okay I'll write that down it sounds great!! Thank you!!
I will forever recommend the Lockwood and Co books. Older middle grade horror/mystery/dark academia and just awesome in my opinion :) 👻⚔️👻
Wholeheartedly agree with this reco! I absolutely inhaled the series (books and netflix adaptation) last year and I need more. 💙
I really need to read those!!
Big Little Lies is great! Good luck
I love that you do "mood TBRs". I'm like you when I do a readathon - I want to read EVERYTHING but I cannot lock into anything because I am such a mood reader. I also have trouble staying present with my current read if I am thinking too much about what comes next. Now that I know myself, I make a list of options for each prompt and then I just choose as I go. I'm considering "Motherthing" for Summerween this year (see already thinking about my TBR, but there's no way I can read everything that I want to read). I'm currently 50 pages into "Scarlet in Blue". I read those pages so quickly - it's awesome so far, and yet it is never talked about on BookTube. The cover is also GORGEOUS!
Hahaha I'm already thinking about my TBR too! And I am too! I've heard really good things about Mothering!
👻 pretty cool and informative
The last Thursday Murder Club was so good!
I was a sobbing mess! So good.
Thank you Lexie! You are one of the few I look forward to here in youtube. I am feeling down more than usual, and I'm glad I got this notification! You are making my day a little bit better now 😊💖
omg that's so sweet of you to say! Thank youuuu!!
I remember buying (and reading) "We Have Always Lived in the Castle" when we used to order Scholastic books at school. Do you think it works for a 6th/7th grader?🧡
I love (and I think you would love) Girls of Little Hope, it's YA horror and kind of mystery too, set in the 90s in a small town focusing on these three girls. Their friendship will literally fill your heart right up to the top 💖
You should read Chai time at Cinnamon Gardens!!!
You have so many good picks! The Sunset Years of Leonie Swann is really fun, I cannot wait for the next in the series!! I really enjoyed the book, it gives similar vibes as the Thursday Murder Club (though, I've only read the first, and am waiting for the rest to come up for me in Libby)
Omg big little lies is soooo good! Also we have always lived in the castle is one of my fave as an audiobook!
Thursday Murder Club on my tbrrr! Hopefully will read it next month!!! And all of these are going to my tbrr!
Love you lexi! Your videos are always the best highlight of my day!!! ❤
And a book i'll like to recommend is The cavendish home for boys and girls by Claire Legrand.
It's very rare that I've read all the books you read in a readathon video 🙂I actually enjoyed all these books and now I want to read everything else on your mood TBR. I would strongly recommend reading Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone soon, I loved that book and now I can't wait to read his next book.
I'm waiting to hear what Lexie thinks about it 🤔I thought it was good. It was an impulsive, airport buy for me, but it didn't disappoint 👍
I read two absolutely amazing books this week. The first was The Return of Ellie Black by Emiko Jean. This is not a light-hearted read. The story was amazing, but you will be sad. If anyone is sensitive to certain topics, you might want to check the content warnings. The second was Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera. This book is full of dark humor. I loved the writing. The main character is so snarky in the absolute best way. I highly recommend both. 👻 👻 👻
Bestie! That tank top is amazing. It looks so good on you! Also that intro montage is perfect
These are my favorite vlogs of yours. I love seeing your snacks and your meals.
Big little lies is so much fun 😩
I love the Thursday Murder Club books. I also enjoyed My Sister is a Serial Killer. And you can’t go wrong with Shirley Jackson - so classic
I really want to finish My Sister the Serial Killer!! Hopefully this year! :)
the audiobook for The Reappearance of Rachel Price was amazing!
I recently finished Listen For The Lie and really enjoyed it. I also finished Behind Her Eyes and the twist was wild 👻
We have always lived in the castle is one of my all time favorite books. You are completely right when you said to read it for the vibes!!
Lol Shirley McClain 😂 13:46
Great vlog of some good sounding thrillers I gotta check out. 👻💀🦇📚☕
I would also recommend The September House.
Second this!
I do not read a lot of murder mysteries (which is weird because I watch them) but I have read A Murder of Crows and A Cast of Falcons both by Sarah Yarwood-Lovett and I thought they were so fun. They are quick, fun, cozy murder mysteries. I've started the 3rd book in the series. 🙂 👻
I love your videos Lexi! You always motivate me to read! Thank you for the book recommendations ☺️
aww thank you Hillary!!
I love the thriller books written by Khurrum Rahman. So far there are 3, East of Hounslow, Homegrown Hero and Ride or Die. A fourth, I understand, is due out next year. They’re gripping, fast paced, and great storylines.
Thank you, Lexy, for a really fun video!!! By-the-way... Those scones looked delicious! I would love to have your recipe, if it's possible of course. 🤗💖📚🍀☀️
You should try the audiobook for the next Thursday Murder Club. The Man Who Died Twice is my absolute favorite audiobook! The narrator is great and does different voices so you can distinguish characters. I also liked the mystery in the second one more than the first. & the characters are just the best 🤗🩷 That audiobook feels like wrapping yourself up in a fuzzy blanket and sipping on a cup of warm tea. I can’t recommend it enough
A thriller I recommend for you Lexi is The Housemaid by Fredia Mcfadden. I can't remember if I've seen you read this on your channel yet. But if so, I also recommend the 2nd book in the series The Housemaid's Secret. I liked this one more than the first!
17:49 look is LOOKING, brows are BROWING. You look so chic here girly.😍
👻 I want to read the Thursday's mystery club... and I consider myself warned!
I would recommend the Robert Galbraith (J. K. Rowling's pseudonym) books if you're not boycotting! 😉
Loved the video!❤
I realllly hated the Thursday murder club books. I’m so surprised to read the comments
My Lovely Wife was so good , it was so much fun reading with you. The Teacher by McFadden is a must read 👻
Loved the vid and the readathon! You always make me feel like I’m just hanging out with a friend. It’s the best! Also, I recommend My Darling Girl by Jennifer McMahon. It’s a mother-daughter focused thriller.
I managed to finish a book whilst I'm in California which was The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams and I loved it 🤩🤩
Alexandra Roselyn Thanks for posting this video
What a cute kindle cover! Was it made like that, or did you put stickers on the cover? If stickers, where’d you get them?😊
My current continous recommendation is Lock Every Door by Riley Sager! I'm the same as you and if the police/FBI are involved, I find myself really not all that interested! 👻
👻👻👻Dark and Shallow Lies by Ginny Myers Sain is such a deliciously good, creepy read. It has so many great elements all combined into an original tale, that includes a southern setting, a murder that was never really solved, mixed with realistic supernatural vibes. It's hard to describe, but utterly a perfect summer read if you like swamps, secrets, and characters that stick with you! 5 stars!!!!
Okay, I know that I should comment on the content of the video - that would be the correct thing to do. But I have to say that you have the most beautiful eyes and complexion that I have ever seen. And no, I'm not a creepo - just appreciating beauty when I see it. Happy Mother's Day everybody - living bodies that is! 😉😊 P.S. Actually, has anyone ever mentioned that you resemble "That Girl"?
👻 I had such a great time at the readathon, the weather was rainy and perfect for thrillers! I recommend How to Solve Your Own Murder, it was one I read for the readathon and it was a different take on a murder mystery and had Knives Out vibes in my opinion! I thought it was great!
Looooove the vibes. I always come here for a good cozy time ❤👻
The murder on the Orient Express,
The affair at Styles
The Body in the Library are three fantastic murder mysteries by Agatha Christie.
Any books you recommend to me.
Hi, it's great seeing you..!! I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for posting. Happy reading my friend!!
👻 Another great video
👻 100% getting My Lovely Wife now! It sounds great
Happy Mother’s Day everyone! 💙💙💚💚💙🫶🏻🌹🩵🩵🌞❤️🧡💖💛🍄🩶💐🌺💘💞🌻🌹🩵🩵🌼💖🧡💜💜🥀💛💛💛🍄💘🩶💕💖🪻🩵🩵❤️🧡💖📚📙📙📙📚📚📚📙📚📚📚📚📚📖📖📖📖📖📖📖🧡🧡🧡💞💕📖💙💙🍄🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🌸❤️🪻❤️💘💚
I was hoping to get your take on The Fury. I enjoyed it, and it was a quick read read.
Such a great video, inspiring me do a readathon myself too.. I enjoyed reading we have always lived in a castle, and also: The Sunset years of Agnes Sharp. Give that a try next time around. Until then everyone... happy reading 📚 😅🎉❤
I struggle with Thrillers so I can't recommend any. I did enjoy Survive The Night by Riley Sager, though. Horrors I can read all day long! If you haven't tried The Exorcist as a horror, I HIGHLY recommend that to everyone! I too DNF'd My Sister The Serial Killer last year :( Another great video, Lexi. Thank you! Sending all my beautiful bookish love to you xoxo 👻👻👻👻
Last month I read Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beauman, which is a sequel to Rebecca by de Maurier, about the last people remaining after the events of Rebecca and trying to finding who Rebecca was and what really happened all those years ago. One of the main characters is a Scottish historian who might have connection to Rebecca as well.
I love your mood TBRs! My lovely wife was pretty fun, indeed. It has a very tiny barely there plot resemblance to My Husband, in my opinion.
I think you should really read Come Closer, by David Ellis, if you haven't yet. It'll deliver everything you're looking for. Also Watching You, by Lisa Jewell.
Love these videos! I'm currently listening to Everyone in my family has killed someone, and im liking it so far 😊
21:44 I got myself a copy and I’m saving it for Summerween 👻 for a good popcorn domestic thriller, I would recommend The Arrangement by bye Kiersten Modglin, Confessions by Kanae Minato and The First Day of Spring by Nancy Tucker👻
👻 Great video. I think I will read We Have Always Lived in the Castle, but will save for spooky season in the fall. Thanks for the rec!
I read Thursday murder club recently I think for me as a Brit and all the British references and vibes just appealed to me more so I gave it a 4.5, going to be putting my lovely wife on my tbr tho :)
I loved it just from the title 😊 need more content like this!
I think Thursday murder club is good it just probably me not feeling the right mood when i read the book, caused i need to like force myself in the beginning to finish it but i like the ending tho ...😂got the second one aswell
Yayyy, a new video😍 Can't wait to watch this when I'm home🥰
Love you Lexi ❤❤❤❤
The fury is a must read
📚❤️
👻 I just finished reading The Sisters by Claire Douglas this week and it was insane but in a VERY good way.
👻 What is the purple nail polish you're wearing, please? It's so pretty! 💜✨
👻
🎉Have a blessed one 📚
I love Shirley Jackson and you just move that one up my TBR priority list! I just finished Girls and their Horses by Eliza Jane Brazier which is like a rich-people domestic thriller about the world of competitive equestrian training. In the beginning you find out someone has died and the story goes back and forth in time to lead up to the death so you start figuring out who and how and why etc. You might enjoy it! 👻🦊
👻👻👻👻👻👻
👻 I always love hearing your thoughts on books. I'm not sure if I will read any of these, but do appreciate the info. I'm not sure if the book I really loved lately falls into these catagories, as I'm new to learning which type or book is which, but my favorite book lately is "Inheritance" by Nora Roberts. It's the first book in a trilogy called "The Lost Brides" and it's about murders, ghosts and romance. I really really loved it and can't wait for the next book to come out :)

My husband recommends Shiver by Ally Reynolds and The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens
