She should have been more patient with what Conrad was going through .. He never really pushed her away ... he was just so distraught with his mom and everything she could have tried harder
It’s also just so obvious that he has anxiety and is so worried about saying the wrong thing all the time, and him starting off that night afraid he was disappointing her would ofc affect him like that. He’s always run away too rather than properly dealt with his fear and anxiety. He hates himself so much because he sees all the similarities between him and his Dad, so it’s no wonder he’s so afraid to say the wrong thing, and when you’re afraid to be like someone like that, sometimes it’s just easier to be alone.
Belly had her own issues at that time too. Her mom basically abandoned her for the school year when she already felt like she was losing her second Mom, and because she was so much younger than Conrad, she was probably deeply insecure. That kind of dynamic especially since she doesn’t truly understand he’s always been in love with her is hard to digest, she’ll just always feel like that love struck girl that followed Conrad around. So the second Conrad made her feel like she didn’t mean that much to him at a time when she was so sensitive and feeling abandoned by her mom, it makes sense why she’d read into his actions a bit too. I think based on the books and the show, Laurel and Conrad are both the figures she looks to for love and approval the most, and they’re very similar in temperament and personality. It kind of makes sense why when Laurel had been so absent, Belly pushed Conrad at the first sign of him leaving so she wouldn’t be abandoned again. Like Belly made plenty of mistakes but they both had many reasons to shut themselves off and hide.
@@tothestarsthatlisten4129 Beautifully said you hit the nail on the head especially the parallels to his dad. He knew Adam saw himself in Conrad and tried to raise him accordingly. Conrad put his dad on a pedestal until finding out abt the cheating. It was the first thing to crush Conrad before finding out abt his Mum. Witnessing the downfall of the person you looked up to your entire life must have been awful without knowing what to do or how to escape that. Afterwards, he recent everything that linked him to his father. In the books, Conrads POV goes something liek he didn't want to despice his father he just didn't want to be anything like him. He had no one to lean on afterwards and become a lonely soul. He didn't want to bother ppl especially his mum when finding out she was sick, she wanted to be brave for her. Very sad story. I really hate the fact that ppl look past that and hate so badly on his character, just bc they can't relate. I feel like you can see the age of the audience clearly when it comes to character judgment. You'll see very young ppl who can't relate to this at all and aily go for look and Jeres sweet and happy attitude. And then you'll have a more experienced audience which actually can relate to Conrads charcter due to life experience either on a personal note or witnessing it in their surroundings. Love you edit of Conrad and Bellys story and I can't wair for s3 to find their way back to each other :)!
