I still love this movie. I also have to say that it's a crying shame that Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines never did any other films together because they were a great on-screen duo.
The Director intended on doing a sequel if it did good box office. Then Billy Crystal career blew up with a couple iconic romantic and classic comedies. So less likely he would want to try buddy cop comdey concept they basically pushed on most big comedians throughout the 80s.
The box office smash hit has received an 1987 Grammy Award nomination for its theme song, "Sweet Freedom." This was Jonathan A. Zimbert's last producing credit as associate producer after nine years. From there, he moved forward to work either as producer or executive producer on many projects beginning with Fred Dekker's "The Monster Squad" for Republic, followed by "The Presidio" among others. From 1988 - present, he was an head of production for the Kennedy/Marshall Company as well as one of the members of the producers' branch for both AMPAS and ATAS.
For the Blues Brothers, the John Hughes comedies, The Untouchables: Chicago never looked better. But this movie captured the misery of the dead of winter along the Chicago lakeshore. Bravo to the filmmakers for their honesty.
I didn't peep this movie until 1989, I was 11. If it weren't for this movie I would not of had any clue about Chicago, all I knew was Boston, NYC, Jersey, Philly, Delaware.
@MeBenHalpin Yeah. That's sucks. I wish we could have seen them do another one. It'll never happen now since Hines passed away a couple of years ago. He really didn't as much credit for his work as he deserved.
Michael McDonald's "Sweet Freedom" music video from Running Scared features Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. In it, they recreate one of the dance moves that GH did with Mikhail Baryshnikov in GH's previous movie White Nights.
It´s just shameful that a simple script movie like this one can beat most of today's crappy movies full of CGI's and violence....You just gotta love the 80's....
Too bad today's movies don't begin with an upbeat song and shots of the hustle and bustle of a big city, like they used to do back in the 80's. Running Scared is an all time classic! It's too back Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal didnt do more movies together. They had a great chemistry! They could have been as good as Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder.
You know what gets me really angry... It is a great movie one of the greatest I've ever seen but it is very underrated! I can't find greek subtitles to understand better what the actors say! Only Paul Walker's movie appears in the results!!!! Also to download that movie i searched about an hour maybe little more...
Song is different from the album version. Not that its bad or anything. They ought to rerelease the soundtrack of that film and include the film version of the song.
I got high with my friend yesterday and decided to check this movie out cause the later version was fucking fantastic. These opening credits almost killed me though as I was laughing so hard at how horrible the music is.
Life was so simple then. Thank god I grew up in the 80s. Rip GH. Thanks for a classic.
I still love this movie.

so totally agree with you
Great song
A sequel was planned for this film titled "Still Running" but Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal rejected it.
Gutted- what a screen partnership. They light it up, big time.
Horrible? This is better than 99% of crap they play on the radio these days.
apexdna 100%*
The director was also the DP!
Peter Hyams.

You are a prick or just have shit taste.
Terrible opening song, sounds like Adrian Belew with none of his musicianship
