Great video Shango, just goes to show even the most decrapped mouse nest infested set with a shot flyback can be brought back to life with some ingenuity and outside of the square thinking.👍
@@maniatore2006 Sorry, Western Auto was a chain of retail stores in the US. They're long gone now. They resold electronics from others under their "Truetone" brand name.
Lexpee, Philips did sell electronics in the U.S. but under the "Norelco" name. Norelco was an abbreviation of NORth american philips ELectical COmpany. They had to do this, because the Philips name was deemed to be too similar with the U.S. manufacturer Philco, and were not allowed to use it. As of late, Philco is dead, and Philips now uses their actual name in the U.S., along with also using Norelco for electric razors. As far as not removing the mouse nest, Shango gave himself the challenge to repair the set without removing the mouse nest.
Western Auto seemed to sell everything, not just auto related stuff. Jay Smart found a 1970s Western Auto branded bicycle in his salvage yard a few days back.
I love your videos! Your patience and perseverance in resurrecting a mouse infested desert dwelling TV set is amazing, I would have given up and burnt that telly long before.
Right? This seems like something of a lost art, from the days when electrical goods were a major investment and people would take them to their local repair shop rather than tossing them for a couple of bad caps. We need to get back to this approach somehow, but those with the skills aren't getting any younger and no-one seems to be picking up that particular baton.
Would have been bitterly disappointed if the mouse nest had not caught fire... Repair and resurrection is dandy, but incendiary TV sets are a tradition on this channel. Thanks for the pyrotechnics. Love it. 🐀💨🔥📺😎
Wow' Your incredible to get the Truetone B&W TV working from a different flyback. There is nothing you can not fix even if a old TV is run over by a Truck You can find a way to bring it back to life. I hope you will find a way to make your own rebuilt CRTs. You have the smarts to do any thing. All My Best to You. JC
Ahhh i can smell the ozone from here :) nicely done, this is my favorite way to make happy working smiley again old gear that won't be useful for much anymore. Bodge until satisfied, then dump into parts pile!
I talked to Mr. Carlson's Lab and he said most of the time when you change to a flyback with a different rating, you can usually do a total re-alignment on the mouse nest and have it pretty close. He also said that during the trip in the car, the mouse nest may have shifted causing some alignment divergence, simply due to the mouse turds drying out over time and not being as supple as they were when new. He recommends doing a complete re-turd before even powering the thing on.
That was absolutely amazing! I am still thinking of ways to increase the blanking pulse though, but damn. I still cannot get over the fact that the new old stock FBT was defected. Ok now for clean up and reassembly with substitute fly back. Well done Shango066, now we have a new way to resurrect some far gone sets, for the entertainment value that is. :)
If this was a customer’s TV, it would be interesting to return it like this with wires and clip leads all over and say “here we go, got your TV running again, watch out for this one wire over here, it’s a bitch if you get zapped with it!”
Save the mouse nests!!! 😄 Love the diagnostics and the tour of the various functions of this set, like blanking pulses, AGC. Crazy that you also had to overcome a defective NOS flyback! I replaced a few flyback, yokes, and never saw that
Oh yea, and that tv was like..." You bring me back to this future on this crazy farm where the only other sets like me exist, have me on life support across your... hey am i even on a bench? and pump this signal into my veins??? go ahead...leave me on and go to the store, see what happens"

Enjoyed it immensely. I would love to do one more fresh full setup of a delta gun crt before I kick but it will never happen.
Very good result ! The experiments with flybacks are most difficult, but I knew from the beginning, that you will fix this! You can substitute the AGC-Voltage with a variable DC-Voltage of about 0 ... -10V or try this, if you want: It is easy to do additional windings on the flyback-transformer-core with isolated flexible wire to get the correct pulse-height, perhaps 10...20 windings will do, if not, look with the oscilliscope. I did this very often in solid-state sets.
Well done shango066, it didn't stand a chance against you :-D Now you can take your parts back and harvest any good tubes, the set can sleep in a dumpster now.
It looks like that Zenith flyback got banged around in storage and bent the connection point until the wire broke off. This was a pretty entertaining rig job!
@ 31:25 - I've been awake for 50 years and I remember the social unrest and craziness of the late 60s and early 70s - the period before we bugged out of Vietnam, but had "Peace with honor" - when Nixon took us of the Gold standard because the Treasury had lost 50% of our Gold reserves due to foreign central banks demanding their Gold because they knew we were printing more money than backed with Gold to finance the Vietnam War - the long lines at gas stations because they told us we were running out of oil and having an "energy crisis" - nah, it just took a while for Kissinger to get the petrodollar system set up with the Saudis. Wake up people this social unrest is signalling imminent economic collapse - but for the petrodollar ponzi scheme, we came close in the 70s. Oh, by the way, fanfuckingtastic resurrection Shango!
I believe Bitcoin will eventually replace the U.S. Dollar, as well as petrodollars. Central banks can't inflate the value of Bitcoin, nor can it be confiscated by governments.

Picture turned out really nice and that mouse nest is an important part of the tv's history, only problem is when you put it back together viewers won't be able to look at the mouse nest.
Well done Sir!It was made to work as a Video Monitor suffering from crushed picture highlights rather than a complete Analogue T.V. Set though. One way of avoiding the need for that Flyback pulse which drives the Flywheel Synch circuit and the Keyed A.G.C. circuit would be to modify for Direct Line Synch and Manually controlled receiver gain and although both of these moves are technically a step backwards functionality as a complete Analogue T.V. Set and a better picture could be had by doing this.
shove the back on it and send it to carlsons lab for a full recap, i just wanna here what he says about the previous tech as mouse droppings ping off the bubble wrap

Great flyback pick. I'm working on a gambling machine monitor that I can't get a yoke match. The horizontal yoke windings are in series with flyback so it won't run.
