I was a game tech at the Showbiz on Noland Road in Independence Mo. I did fill in at the Antioch store (the one in the video) a few times as well. We used to perform maintenance on the shows weekly and we would calibrate/synchronize every movement on every character once a month. They ran on adjustable dual action pneumatic cylinders. The speed of each cylinder was adjustable in both directions as well as the range of motion. There was a special video we used to get the speed of each motion precisely adjusted to the proper speed, which is what allowed the characters to stay in synch with the music. It took a few hours to do it if you did it right. All of the control solenoids and adjustment valves were under the stage and accessible via trap doors in the stage. Good times!

It’s weird the things you remember from places like this. I was the same age as these kids in the video and I only remember small details about Showbiz, but one of them was this weird arcade that had a monkey as the playable character, who had been transformed. I found out later it was called “Toki.” It was right near the front entrance to the place. I think that’s partially why it stands out so vividly.

The tech room at that store was HUGE!!! Those were good times John! @craigcampbell8560 Год назад

@@JG1universe We never used the emergency backup tapes at the Noland road store because we always kept the show tapes. Antioch kept them too, so they could have used an old show tape in a pinch had they wanted to. That said, corporate didn't like for the stores to use the old tapes because they were rougher on the robotics than the newer shows were by the time 1989 rolled around, especially in the 3 Kansas City area stores that were still open in 1989 (Antioch, Metcalf, and Noland) because those were the oldest shows. The backup tapes were fine, but the early Rockafire shows really kicked ass, so if we had a tape break on us (they were reel to reel) we would just use something really cool from 1981 or 1982.

ONE of the Kansas City Locations. There were 5 of them at one time, but this one was the very first Showbiz pizza. In 1989 three of the original 5 Showbiz pizza places were still open. Antioch, Noland Road (My home store), and Metcalf avenue. The Metcalf avenue store still exists to this day as a Chuck E. Cheese and is the ONLY one of the original 5 Showbiz pizza place buildings that is still standing. The Noland road store building was torn down this past year. So even though it bares virtually NO resemblance to Showbiz pizza, it's the oldest Showbiz/Chuck E Cheese in existence.

However CEC started turning into a mad zone, with RUclips videos showing fights and kids bleeding all over the place lol. It's honestly kinda sad. I hope Chuck E. Cheese doesn't turn into some generic kid place with stupid parents dropping them off to leave them there. (Also this is only if you ARE: If you're blaming CEC then you're just wrong. ShowBiz was the one who put the Concept Unification thing into initiation. But of course you guys wouldn't want to be blaming ShowBiz because "the restaurant chain I grew up loving can do no wrong!" I hate the fact that to get creative engineering off there backs they rebranded his Chuck e cheese's and that's their downfall

Creative Engineering (Aaron Fechter) invented and created EVERYTHING associated with the show, Characters and all. He rightfully owned the rights to all of it as well. Showbiz essentially demanded that he sign the rights over to them for free. I can't blame him for telling them to kick rocks. They ultimately rebranded because when they bought out Chuck E Cheese they owned the rights to those characters outright. It's a shame because Rockafire was way better than anything Chuck E Cheese ever did.
