Can’t thank you enough for taking the time to make this tutorial. The band I play in decided to cover this tune. You are a total life saver. As always you are spot on and perfect. 🤘🙏👍
thanks for checking this out!
Thank you so much. I'm 16 now and still love to play this song. Mark Farner is one of my favorite guitarists (along with Ted Nugent, Peter Frampton, Dave Mason, Alvin Lee etc) and I've always loved this song. It made my dad proud when I showed him what I could play, thanks to you... thanks for posting!
76912100it's great to hear you are playing guitar and off to such a great start - please keep playing and i know you will never look back - thanks for checking out this vid and i love your list of influences. If i can ever help in any way shoot me a message - your friend, dale.
Thanks for the reply! I've been in love with my music since I was very young... my father is the reason I play today. Right now I'm gonna be learning how to play "flirtin' with disaster" by Molly Hatchet. Can't wait!
Thanks Dale. Your a great player and teacher. Been playing these songs for 45 years (just for fun) and I pick up some little things and nuances like this and it really brightens my day and makes playing that more enjoyable. Thank God there are people like you who likely worked hard at their playing and are willing to share it with folks like me. Love It!!! Thank you very much!
hello Gerald...thanks so much for giving your time to check this out and your post is sincerely appreciated! I wish you the very best with your music, dale.

Much appreciated Dale.

Man thanks for making this. I'm 18 and always wanted to play this song. Mark Farner is a huge influence to me along with Warren Haynes, Prince, Dweezil Zappa, and the Mighty Ted Nugent. One of the best tutorialists out there. Thanks my friend!
you are so welcome and thank you for checking this out! we share many of the same influences - Farner is a major one for me as well - keep rockin', your friend, dale.

This is like the fourth of your tutorials I have used. This is one of the easiest songs in the songs in the world to play but there are some subtle issues within it which can drastically change it.. Your tutorials always help me so much. Thanks Bro!
sincere thanks for checking this out!
Thanx a million.. This has always been a favorite GFR song of mine, just never took the time to learn it.. Doing a tribute for a very ill musician, and this song will fit the proceedings very well.. Thanx again...

Thank you Tone, as with all your videos "just the facts please" - right-on!
thanks i sure appreciate that and thanks for sharing music!
Another GREAT one Dale! Two things.....you make so many tunes and vids.. when do you find time for other things? hehe AND...you ALWAYS return a nice comment to people that comment on your stuff...That's just AWESOME! Shows your character for sure. It's a real pleasure getting to know you and I LOVE your music. A true example for ALL people, ESPECIALLY in music! You and your family are an inspiration that we should ALL try to emulate! The "Take me to the Cross" tune keeps running around in my head and my wife LOVES IT! The Lord smiles when he hears that one and so do we! Have a wonderful weekend and keep up the great work!
PS....I GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS! The Edgar Winter Free Ride tune has me drillin it all dang day! Gonna have a fortune in bandaids and new frets! hehe If I don't stop buying guitars the little lady is going to beat me into the shape of one....MORE BANDAIDS! hehe You just never know about me...I fly for a living....would LOVE to see the Lexington Lab Band and meet you guys!
AWitty PIlot hey sir! please know how much i APPRECIATE your kind words and taking your time to share them! man this word has SO many discouraging things but music and being able to meet new folks through it is one of life's best - thanks for being that person and i hoping one day we sit down together and pick all these great tunes! Keep rocking, your KY friend, dale.
Sir? I aint yer daddy! hehe Kiddin....I'm just Flybob, an appreciative friend! Trust me Dale, I jam with LLB pretty much every day. We've grown to like you guys tunes better than most of the originals. You're every bit as good and a lot more fun to watch. You bring in a ton of talent and I REALLY like the way you give the young people a chance to strut their stuff. ALL inspiring and in the light of the King of Kings. As much as I love rock, it seems all the big players turn away from decency and that's not what I like to see as role models. Like miley and taylor whom we all thought were going to stay sweet for life. You have made rock what I want it to be, fun, toe tapping and DECENT done by DECENT people! Rock isn't ALL sex and drugs and rock and roll, some of us go the right way. I have a dream to change some of the lyrics in popular tunes and play them in a church band. How's THAT for an idea? No disrespect to the original artists but a toe tapping rock/gospel band? How cool is that? I was going to call the band the OGB (old guys band). My buddy suggested "Ancient wind". Ok....old farts....hehe....I think he has something there! Keep up the good work......we're watching you! hehe Keep up the tutorials too.....I'm learning a TON from them! Thanks for all your hard work and caring about your fellow man....that part Jesus is watching!
AWitty PIlot this is prob my fave post of all time...because it captures, better than i could say, exactly how i fee too - why does great music have to have so many injurious things associated with it? It was mean to for good and one of life's greatest gifts - you said it very well sir!
Thanks Dale, enjoyed the lesson and the reminiscing.
greatly appreciate you giving your time to check this out!
all the best,
dale

sincere thanks for checking this out...greatly appreciated!
Thank You! Great tutorial. I am a rank beginner, however, I see how to play these riffs Etc. I love Grand Funk!
Thanks so much for checking this out..greatly appreciated!
Your positioning on the inverted C chord being played 0,5,5,3 that ends up rising with the same position to the F 0,10,10,8 is correct, or at least it's the way he played it on a Guild 12 string in his living room in 1984 (85? man could of been, but it would of been early). I went to the same high school (Kearsley) as Mark, and was taking lessons from his back up guitarist at the time for his Christian music. I got to go over and sit in on a rehearsal, and Joel had me play Jethro Tulls Aqualung for him. I'll never forget that day. Theres only 2 small parts(a slide in the intro and a pull off) he plays that you don't. Very accurate.
thanks for the post and great story!
Hey Dale. I know this is an old video. But this was the first song I ever learned on a guitar (four decades ago) so I went back to rememebr it and ofound your video. Like finding an old friend at a friend's place :)

Great song to play!...I've played an sing it since I was sixteen...if you have a great bass player and a solid drummer it sounds very powerful even today!...
oscar estrada totally agree - still a great tune! keep rockin, dale.
Very inspirational for a beginner like me. It'd be great to hear you play and sing the whole song, regardless of how well or not so well you may sing.

My family would be proud
are you related to Mark?
@@tonedr yes.
thanks for sharing that with me...such a HUGE influence on me and so many others. Maybe one day i'll get to cross paths with him:)
Informative for someone like me that can only hear the sound ,l Play it, not necessarily read it! Read By ear Ear.. hope you understand.
i do...thanks for checking this out! all the best with your music, dale.
This guy can play a mean hog!
thanks so much for checking this out!
Too bad that Don is such a knucklehead and wont reform the band. I know Mark would do it as he has said in many interviews. They owe it to there fans before its too late. Anyway great vid. Knew most of it except for a few small details like the chords just before the solo. keep on rockin.
Thanks so much for checking this out..greatly appreciated!
Grand Funk always had great openings to their songs but they would often ruin the ending bad and this song is no exception. The “Im getting closer to my home” goes on way to long.
i love a bunch of their tunes too...this may be my fave if i had to pick!
L
great thanks for your kind post and sharing music...your friend, dale.
