    Wow, that sounds intense! And also like an amazing experience! I've been a student for a LONG time now (8 years) and I also started out with defining my identity with my grades. I also have always had a lot of interests which helped me keep variety in my schedule, but at one point I learned what it feels like to be overloaded and too busy! Now I am very deliberate about keeping my schedule flexible enough to have down time. I also like having a little bit of time that isn't booked up every week where I can have the option to take on new opportunities that come up, unexpected ones that I may not have time for if every day is booked up for me! In hindsight I wouldn't have changed my first years of being really busy for the same reasons you said, that it was wonderful and enriching and I learned a lot and met so many people. But now I think it's possible for me to have that without being chronically exhausted-- gotta love that self-care! :) Thanks for this video Kirsten!

    I love your advice about the minor! I really think that should apply to most majors. You never know how long it will take you to find a job related to your major or how long your career in that field will last. I think college is a great time to pursue your passions but you've gotta be realistic about it too, like not borrowing more than you'd ever be able to pay off working in your field and learning practical skills. Plus I imagine in ballet a lot of those skills, like in business, helps you understand the company/business side of it all and will help if you ever work in or open a studio. Great video! People did 24 credit hours though? omg! I don't even get how people who do that much even get that much out of their studies. It seems like you'd just be constantly focused on getting the work down...

    Did you have the opportunity to do center on pointe in your technique classes? I am currently in a pre-professional program and I do two technique classes a day with center on pointe as well as classes such as variations, pas, and 1 pointe class in addition to modern, jazz, and composition. I just feel like a lot of the University programs would have me dancing less then I am now. So do you feel like the amount of dancing you were doing was enough?

      cambria dancu Yes there's tons of pointe! I'm also at the university of California Irvine placed in one of the highest ballet levels and pointe is required

    Kind of random, but can you do a makeup tutorial on whatever you're wearing in this video? I love your makeup and it always looks so put together. Thank you!

    That course sounds amazing! I wish I could have ballet class every day at university. I am an art history student at the university of Cambridge and I adore your channel!

      Thank you so much! Wow, that is amazing! My twin sister loved her art history classes so much that she wanted to get a minor in the subject. Hearing her talk about it with passion always made me interested in studying it as well!

    I’m just wondering, is it really hard to get into the ballet program? I want to go to the U for a ballet major and I’m worried that I might not be able to get in.

    With the type of degree that you got, would you say that you would have been able to go the business route with your career if you didn’t end up in a company? Cuz I’m strongly considering doing something really similar to you in college but I’m not sure if I will be able to pursue my academic degree as a career if dancing doesn’t work out… hopefully that makes sense

    how many colleges did you apply too? Like with good ballet major programs other than the University of Utah?

    Did you have to buy your own pointe shoes or did your school provide them?

    • @TheConfidentDancer
      @TheConfidentDancer  7 лет назад +2

      Only professional companies pay for shoes, but that would be a dream if colleges did as well!

    Hi Kirsten! I'm looking into the U of Utah and I was wondering if it is possible to double major in ballet and kinesiology? Thanks! great video as always!

    • @TheConfidentDancer
      @TheConfidentDancer  7 лет назад

      Thank you! I'm not entirely sure if there is a degree specifically in kinesiology that is offered, however, I do know that there are very similar degree plans available at the U and it is possible to double major with ballet! Double majoring is always a big challenge, and balancing the two schedules doesn't always work perfectly, but it is definitely worth it if you are passionate about both fields. Best of luck to you!

    Do you know anything about the process for transfer students? I"m a freshman now at The Hartt School and not loving it

    • @TheConfidentDancer
      @TheConfidentDancer  7 лет назад

      +Erica Wolf Oh sorry to hear that! I know that it is totally possible to be a transfer student in the U's ballet program. There is lots of information about the process online, but as far as auditioning after the year has already started, I'm pretty sure you can just send a video or go to take class as an audition.

    I don't really understand that you graduated one year earlier. So usually you do 4 years but you can squeeze them in 3 years if you want to? And I must say the 21 credits/semester really sounds funny to me, I am taking 36 right now and it's not much :D

    • @SirenBellydanceNWA
      @SirenBellydanceNWA 6 лет назад +1

      Are you in an American College? Most classes are 3 credits so for 36 you would have been taking classes 12 classes a semester.... Which while possible a lot of schools won't allow it.
