one of the astonishing things about this program is that all these artists are completely willing to bare heart and soul in front of the group and the cameras. They hold absolutely nothing back-there are tears comfortably rolling down cheeks, beautifully bright smiles, understanding nods and gentle touches gladly given and received. Before I found this show, I thought Matoma’s work as a Voice judge, with his gift of tears and courageously open heart, was something only he would offer a performer and audience, but clearly there are many other artists in Norway who are just as brave and talented as he. You are an extraordinary and so very blessed community, and I’m grateful for your work and example. I am an American, and I just can’t imagine something like this being filmed with US artists at a similar level, and I see just how much we’re missing out on. I hope we choose to learn from your example, because what you do is so stunning and a huge gift of the heart. Thank you all!!
💚💜💛I`m a Norwegian artist (not a very famous one, yet..... :P), and I`ve never noticed this about Norwegian vs US artists before I read your comment. Interesting. If I was at that show, I would cry all the time. I`m very sensitive, and not afraid to show it. I open up all the time on my RUclips channel The Jackie Show, and I write honest and personal rock songs, and sing with a lot of feelings. Hope to be a part of the Norwegian famous artists some day. That was my dream since I was a kid. Love, Jackie Belle
I don’t think you understand why this is emotional for Boine. As a priviliged white man or course you don’t. It was common practice for indiegenous kods to be taken away from their parents, families, communites and motherlands by force and put into residential schools to become «human», aka Norwegian/Swedish/American etc. Internatskole ville vi kaldt det på norsk… what a huge trauma, you don’t speak the language suddenly you’re taken away from your whole support system expected to learn a totally new language, culture and norms and become someone you’re not. And if they refused or didn’t do well they were punished often beaten, starved and put in isolation… why this hits home for anyone who’s indigenous, especially us, because we carry that unresolved trauma passed down through generations depending on when in history it happened. My tribe was colonized 500+ years ago!
Every song has a hidden story. This does not detract from the beautiful interpretation of the song. Anyway, thanks for explaining.@@kilipaki87oritahiti
@@kilipaki87oritahiti I dont know if you have misunderstood what this song is about or you just have decided to make your own interpretation of the song, that actually is far from what this song is about. Mari say that the song is a song about her grandmother, who was her great role model and the one to whom she could seek refuge when she was having a hard time growing up. Mari says she was the lifebuoy in her life and that she feels that her grandmother lives on in her. When Mari was 13, her grandmother died and this is a song that Mari describes as a part of processing the grief of losing the person who was closest to her and meant the most to her in her life. Part of the original text is: my grandmother was like a bird, one day she flew away and disappeared. The song's original title in Sami is "Mu ákkhu", which means "My grandmother". That is why this song was so emotional for Mari Boine!
I also want to add. You dont have to be able to relate to a song to be able to be touched by it. These singers are so so so good in putting there everything into this music. I think its beautiful that this ‘ privileged white man ‘ is able to show his emotions. unlike a lot of other people. ✨🫶
The complete english lyrics : Who took you away from me? Who took you away? You disappear so easily. With no one here to hold me. Afraid alone, im looking for you. Afraid alone, im looking Im reaching out, but no one is there. and im wondering, who took you away from me? Away from me. You gave my soul a minute of peace You heard my song You heard me You looked my way when no one could see The only one who knows me I long for you everyday I need you here to say That everything will be ok Oh, I'm wondering Who took you away? Who took you away? won't you tell me where you are now Carried off, and i don't know why they took you away
