Don’t see any intention to injure on anyone’s part. Clean check. He just happened to fall in the path Perry was skating. No way he could have gotten out of the way from hitting him as quick as it happened. Just one of those unfortunate hockey plays. Hope Tavares will be ok.

If perry didnt slightly lift his left leg his skate would have cut Tavares face so I would say it could have been alot worse.

I did EMS standbys for major junior (OHL) games, I've been there when players were injured and training staff went onto the ice, I fortunately never had to witness the worst fear of the athletic trainer's fist going into the air like at 0:31. For those who don't know, that's the signal to us that we are needed on the ice, immediately. It typically means a player has lost consciousness or has suffered an injury that will require emergent care beyond what the team doctor can provide. While the signal is technically just to the EMS on scene, if given, it typically brings the training staff from the other team as well as both team doctor's to the ice as well. I'm glad I never had to see it, and I'm glad he's okay after this. That's scary as hell.

On May 20, in the Leafs' opening Stanley Cup playoff game against the Montreal Canadiens, Tavares was upended by Canadiens defencemen Ben Chiarot. Canadiens forward Corey Perry attempted to jump over Tavares as he fell to the ice, in doing so, however, Perry's knee clipped Tavares in the head. Ultimately, Tavares was stretchered off the ice and was transported to the hospital.[80][81] After the game, Perry felt remorse for his role on the incident: "I don't know what else to do there. I tried to jump. I know Johnny pretty well and just hope he's OK."[82][83] Tavares was taken to St. Michael's Hospital, and was discharged the following day, but was ruled out indefinitely with a concussion.

Skate accidents are so scary. Whether hockey or figure skating those things can do so much damage. Remember kids, if you fall while ice skating, tuck your hands into fists and curl into a ball until you deem it safe to come up without getting ran into. Those things will slice fingers clean off.

It seems like the medical staff are slow to come out. Also, neck collars, stretchers, and hemostasis tools were not available. Accidents involving neck cuts have occurred in the past, so medical staff must be able to act immediately according to established protocols.
