I did EMS standbys for major junior (OHL) games, I've been there when players were injured and training staff went onto the ice, I fortunately never had to witness the worst fear of the athletic trainer's fist going into the air like at 0:31. For those who don't know, that's the signal to us that we are needed on the ice, immediately. It typically means a player has lost consciousness or has suffered an injury that will require emergent care beyond what the team doctor can provide. While the signal is technically just to the EMS on scene, if given, it typically brings the training staff from the other team as well as both team doctor's to the ice as well. I'm glad I never had to see it, and I'm glad he's okay after this. That's scary as hell.
For me the scariest moment is at 0:31 (1:38 in the 2nd half) where you can see the life and light just go right out of Johnny Toronto … there is no one home at that point
A doctor myself a head injury is so serious the brain can be damaged or have a bleed on the brain or can have brain damaged but fingers crossed he gets the right treatment but he's in the right place where doctors and specialist can help him recover

I know I'm Australian and know sweet F A about Ice Hockey, but my concern was why that official allowed him to move at all and wasn't kept in the recovery position until medics arrived?..again I may be speaking out of turn but surely his physical safety for risk of spinal injury should have been of upmost importance.
He came back the next season and he was good to go… but he had a rough year. You could tell he didn’t wanna push full tilt like he usually does. I’m glad John is okay. He is back to his old self. But the season following this incident wasn’t very good, but that’s definitely understandable

Skate accidents are so scary. Whether hockey or figure skating those things can do so much damage. Remember kids, if you fall while ice skating, tuck your hands into fists and curl into a ball until you deem it safe to come up without getting ran into. Those things will slice fingers clean off.

It seems like the medical staff are slow to come out. Also, neck collars, stretchers, and hemostasis tools were not available. Accidents involving neck cuts have occurred in the past, so medical staff must be able to act immediately according to established protocols.

That seizure was a fencing posture seizure meaning he also has a TBI. Of course he would have a concussion, but lucky he did not get killed.

Right? Rewatching this even now knowing he’s good and healthy is still scary as hell. The moment where he just ragdolled backwards is one of the scariest things I’ve ever watched live in hockey. Scary, scary hit and I’m thankful it wasn’t even worse.
