Halloween is probably tapped out for fifteen years, maybe more. I think there have been too many lately - five in fifteen years is close to old Friday The 13th territory.
Friday is probably overdue for a short comeback. I don't see lasting more than three or four movies.
Nightmare has life but it depends on casting. With the right actor and the right script there's no reason it couldn't have a five or six movie run.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is tapped out, maybe for good.
Chucky is close to being tapped out.
Hellraiser would have some life it can get solid studio backing and a goof actor. Maybe three movies.
If rebooted properly, Phantasm has the potential to become a major mainstream franchise.

Jackie Earl Haley is absolutely an underrated Freddie Kruger.
One thing that separates ANOES from other slashers is that Freddie is literally timeless. The other villains will all age.
But Freddie can defy time because he "lives" in the dream world.
Plus, since Freddie can change his appearance at will and is limited only to his imagination they could more easily adapt his look to change with the times.
Freddie could live on in horror films seemingly forever.
I'd like to see filmmakers take advantage of using Freddy in a world of modern technology (cellphones, Zoom, streaming services, etc.). I'm onboard with seeing Freddy kill someone through a Ring video doorbell, Lol.

I feel like the Friday the 13th franchise has no more potential. With all the legal stuff going on i doubt we will ever see a new Friday the 13th film anytime soon. But i do believe if a origin story was made and dug deep into Jason's and Pamela's backstory then that could possibly save the franchise imo. But i do think the Halloween franchise still has potential the 2018 movie feels like a fresh start and i think its gonna do well and even introduce a younger generation to the franchise. Don't extend if you don't want spoilers for the Alien vs Predator movies.
Xenomorphs arriving on Earth has been done in both. In the first Alien vs Predator, the group of protagonists are investigating an underground pyramid in the arctic found to have been built by Predators to keep a queen Xenomorph hostage. They use this pyramid to test up and coming Predators as a sort of rite of passage by having the queen lay eggs, create Xenomorphs, and having the Predators hunt the Xenomorphs.
Alien vs Predator Requiem had actual Xenomorphs loose on Earth in a town, but also had a Xenomorph burst from the main Predator of the previous movie, creating a Predalien that causes chaos.

Out of all the franchises you listed, to me Halloween has the most potential for remakes. One Halloween film I would like to see is a remake of Halloween 5. This time the main plot line is Jamie’s struggle with the madness that came over her in Halloween 4. One scene I always envisioned is Rachel puts a knife down and Jamie just looks at it, her arm moves closer until someone walk in snapping her out of it. She then runs upstairs crying because of what she was tempted to do. Another idea would be having a TV series with each episode a different Halloween story like they tried to do with 3.
Love your idea of a Final Destination based on a boat accident by the way.

TCM franchise. What a mixed bag of a franchise. personally I feel that should have not been a franchise to begin with. It should have just been a standalone film cause there is no way in hell it could have been topped. On a side not i would love to see a true sequel to the 03 remake. That time line is the closest we got to being on par with the original imo. As for the Nightmare on elm street remake i recently watched it just for the hell of it and I used to hate it but now i like it more then i used to. The Freddy being a child molester thing still bothers me and that's what fueled my hatred for it. But now i can look past that and enjoy the film now that im older and have a more open mind. Plus i agree with you on Jackie Earle Haley. He did a awesome job playing Freddy a very underrated performance and that voice he gives Freddy still gives me chills wen i hear or think about it.

Great video as usual, your a very underrated Horror channel in my opinion. i feel still the American Ring movies still have some potential. To me the only good Ring movie in the US franchise is “The Ring”, the sequels are a huge let down for me especially The Ring Two. The American series can focus more on Samaura’s curse expanding beyond the Cursed video which is the direction that the movie “Spiral/Rasen” took. The best way I can explain Spiral is that it was the original sequel to Ringu and it focused on the curse being passed on to people other than the conventional videotape. Spiral is a terrible movie btw, I wouldn’t recommend it but the concept was very interesting and i feel it would be a good idea for a new Ring movie.

The Scream franchise has so much potential if they finally move on from Sidney. I hope Scream 5 passes the torch to new characters. Just don't kill of Sidney. Let her move on and live a happy life.
This new Halloween trilogy should end Laurie's story. If they chooses to continue, then start a new timeline with new set of characters.
For F13. I think movies still have potential. I'd like to see one with actual fleshed out characters. Maybe try to tackle some sort of social commentary with it.

My thoughts exactly on F13, and I love that franchise. I feel there's some uncharted territory for such a basic storyline, studio's take note and give the keys to Desanti! Alien...another one of my favorites! They need to do the Alien 5 treatment that was pitched a few years ago that basically pulled a Halloween 2018 and retconned 3 and 4 and brought back Newt and Hicks. Predator 5 is taking the franchise to the past that deals with pre-colonial Native Americans fighting a Predator, so that's something new.

Friday the 13th will always have potential. The same for Halloween. If we get storytellers good enough to actually meet the potential, well, that is a different story, but those two franchises will ALWAYS have the potential.
A Nightmare on Elm Street is a real wildcard. Any actor to portray Freddy will ALWAYS have to figure out a way to overcome the “I’m not Robert” stigma, because every actor to play Freddy for the rest of human existence will face that stigma. Every time we see a new Dracula film, we automatically compare the actor to Bela Lugosi, and the same will go for Robert and Freddy.

  • @matthewscorner2990
    @matthewscorner2990 Год назад

I feel franchises never taking the time to take their property seriously and do great things, like how you stated with Friday the 13th, is exactly the reason properties like that still HAVE potential. There are so many directions to go with a franchise like that if it was just given to someone like Womp Stomp Studios who actually CARE about the story and character. You don't have to worry about appeasing continuity because it was a hot mess to begin with and because they never took advantage of certain possibilities, those possibilities are ripe for the taking by directors and studios who bother to look.
Edit: Side note, what if you have a Halloween Reboot that seemed like it was gonna be similar to the original film and retread things, but then Lorei is like one of the first people to die in it, so that catches you off guard like "Wait, what?? Did they just--?? Well shit, who the hell are we following then??"

They did the "Xenomorphs make it to Earth" premise in one of the Alien vs Predator movies, yeah. Small(ish) town gets overrun by Xenomorphs, I think. Think it was a two parter as well, with it being a direct sequel of the AVP movie before it.
For the Sadako vs Samara premise, there was a (sorta) similar premise with a Sadako (The Ring) vs Kayako (The Grudge). I understand what you are saying is both the Ring antagonists versus each other but I felt like bringing that up since the The Ring and The Grudge are so similar in a lot of ways.

I Agree With You About Friday The 13th Franchise. Everything Has Been Said & Done With Majority Of The Overall Series Potential To Spawn Sequels & A Huge Fan Base.
Same Can Be Said About The Halloween Series & Some Of its Sequels. The Original To This Day Continues To Have To Most Conventional Potential... With An Exception Of The 2018 Film.
Texas Chainsaw Went Off Rails At Certain Points With Potential They Easily Could've Conjured But At The End Of The Day, Overall, The Original & 1st Remake In 2003 Were Best Ones & The Rest Of The Series Remained A Mess, Definitely A Humongous No.
A Nightmare On Elm Street Series However Screamed Potential. There's So Many More Potential In Various Nightmares That Haven't Been Explored Yet Involving The Kills In The Process. A Solid Yes For That One.
The Child's Play Serious I 💯% Agree With You About The Entire Franchise. The Continuity Remained Consistent. Each Film Is Solidly Different & Because Chucky Is Such A Unique Conventional Doll, The Premise Alone Could Go Anywhere. Solid Yes For Child's Play.
Scream Series Was Born With A Lot Of Potential Than I Can Discuss. I Completely Agree With You About Both The Films & Television Series. Hands Down Yes On It's Potential.
The Saw Franchise...Yes. The Traps Alone/ The Variety Of Ways To Kill People Is Enough To Carry On The Franchise.
Silence Of The Lambs... An Underrated Yes. We Need To See More Of Hannibal Lector.
The Original Jaws Should've Been The Only Of Its Kind To Exist.
Jurassic Park... Yes & Yet No.
I've Only Seen The 1st 2 Alien Movies & Honestly Yes... I Can See Much More Potential Forward.
The Purge Series... While The Premises Went Off Rails For Entertainment Value The 1st 2 Movies Were Great But The Rest Lost What Made The Original Great, So No.
Final Destination Series.. Yes. Too Much Potential To Put In Words.
Never Been A Huge Fan Of "AV" Or Paranormal Activity Series At All.
The Conjuring Series, It Ran It's Course But I Loved A Few Of Them With The Potential They Had.
They Had A Movie With Grudge Vs The Ring... It Was Ridiculous But Rad.
Insidious Franchise Yes & No. I Think They Should Stop At The 5th Chapter Because I Know Another Is Coming Back. The Dad's Name Is Josh & The Son's Name Is Dalton. Loved This Video & All Of Your Opinions On These Franchises.

I think Halloween would have a lot of potential if they'd finally stop the Michael/Laurie storyline and do something new with the story.
There were these Halloween novels published in the 90's that were geared towards a YA audience. The first book in the series, The Scream Factory, establishes Michael as having escaped after the events of 78', totally disappearing. However, he'd occasionally pop up and commit a massacre, getting the boogeyman type reputation.
I think that idea would be cool, having Michael on an almost mythic type level, with no one really sure whether or not he's still out there. Maybe they could tell this story from a Law Enforcement perspective, almost like a True Detective type vibe.

Great topic! I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on these franchises. I have a lot to say, so I apologize if I end up writing a book in your comments section! Firstly, you look like you could have stepped out of the 1996 masterpiece The Craft, love it! As far as these franchises go, I think Friday still has some potential, but a change is needed, for the most part the franchise is very formulaic, but I still enjoy quite a few films in that series. I believe after the current trilogy of Halloween films has concluded that it should be the end of the franchise, as we know it. I would love to see more films similar to the concept of Halloween III: Season of the Witch, in which the story takes place on Halloween, but has nothing to do with Myers; lots of potential there! A bizarre mess is exactly the right way to describe the TCM franchise, I don't see much meat left on the bone with this series, what would they do differently!? Yes, A Nightmare on Elm Street may have the most potential of all! That series is very inventive and dreams can take us anywhere; that's where the remake failed, no imaginative dream sequences. Robert Englund brought a lot to the role of Freddy, his scariest performance was in Nightmare 2. I'm looking forward to the Child's play TV series, I think there is more potential there than with the films. I am still looking forward to Scream 5, just wish Craven was still here to direct. I believe Chris Rock is trying to take Saw back to more of the same feel as the first film, which I'm intrigued by. The Silence of the Lambs still has potential, love your idea of another Foster/Hopkins film! Jaws is dead, there have been way too many killer shark movies in the last few years and I don't see another film having nearly the same impact as the original at this point. I didn't really enjoy the last Jurassic Park, but I would watch another as I think there are still a few interesting places they could take the franchise. I'm not as schooled in the Alien franchise, but from the ones I've seen I think most of the good ideas have been used. Final Destination is a fun franchise, I would watch another one. I have only seen the first Paranormal Activity and one of the later sequels, nah, I don't think there's any potential there. The Purge is another one that has run it's course in my opinion. The Conjuring I say yes, but I don't really care for any of the spinoff films. I still see potential in the Insidious series, but I'm a Lin Shaye fan and she's great in that role! As for other franchises that you could potentially talk about I would say Critters, Puppet Master, Leprechaun, and Ghostbusters (if that's horror enough).

Honestly, I think Elm Street and Friday the 13th are the ones that has the most potential. Halloween is fine the way it is but the last time they tried to take that series in a new direction, it wasn't very well respected. Child's Play has potential but I think Cult of Chucky isn't that bad as people made it out to be but we probably will never get another film with Mancini at the helm. However, we are getting a show this year on SyFy. Also, I think Alien and Predator (even though it's owned by Disney) still has potential. As for the Hannibal Lecter series, I'd say leave that alone because there's not much else there to cover. I didn't even see the Hannibal show with Mads Mikkelsen or the Clarice show recently. Jaws has run it's course. Final Destination, there's still much you could do. Jurassic Park is ending with Dominion next year. The final Purge movie comes out this year and i think it's time for the series to end personally. No more Paranormal Activity films for me because after the fourth one, the franchise went to hell. Amityville has gone on for far too long. I love Ringu, The Ring '02 and The Ring Two as well as Rings but as for the Ring franchise, it kinda has potential for one last film. And as for the Insidious franchise, give me one last hurrah. The boy's name in Insidious is Josh.
