Love how there's no "whiney" complaining, smack-talking "reality TV" bullsh-t. Every person acknowledges the outcome, accepts the decision, congratulates the competitor, and moves on - like adults should.
I think the closest thing we've ever gotten to a jab on this show is the loser talking about having a wife and a beer, haha. 19-year-old probably hasn't gotten to those just yet. But I don't even think it was intended as a jab, just the truth.
Agree, probably because there is respect to the craft. This man knew the performed the same, but he knows the other dude went extra by using damasco and also by giving it a great detail in the connections.
What's supposed to be scary about him being a good forger at 19? He's going to be making nuclear blades that will threaten the world's balance of power? Stop being a drama queen. Just say you're impressed. There's nothing to be scared of.
And now we see why so many blacksmiths go for damascus. When the weapons perform virtually identically to each other, aesthetics become an important distinction when judging a winner. These guys did amazing work, but jayden went the extra mile and made his weapon gorgeous as well as deadly.
While Damascus always looks better, it doesn't always perform better. There's been plenty of Damascus blades that take a lot of damage or break in the strength test. But when they're made really well like Jayden's blade, it's almost impossible to beat.
The smartest play (if you're fast enough and have the set-up) seems to have a Damascus A plan and a standard B plan. I've seen a few people switch gears and save the win.
The funniest thing to me is that Doug marcaida keeps holding these things on his hand like he could be some kind of maniacal villain with an elephant tusk sword for a hand and that would be even scarier than he already is

Well done Jayden. He indeed turned in a piece of art. I wonder, have the FiF team pulled a twist and asked contestants to forge something as small and fine as a scalpel?
No. This shows is about creating, for the most part, bladed weapons that were used in combat throughout history. I think the closest thing to a small and fine weapon that anyone has had to forge would be the karambit.
@@krfan5459 They've forged smaller knives in previous challenges. They've even done a halligan bar as a final round. I could see them doing a scalpel in an earlier round for a first responders themed episode.
@@QuentinStephens If your intention was to forge a scalpel as a round 1 challenge, then I could see that being possible. In that case, they would probably need to ask them to forge more than one.

I'm always happy to see a new weapon I've never seen before. And frankly now it feels like a no brainer, of COURSE you would put a weapon on the tusk to make it even more deadly and resistant to damage on the impact. Frankly these would make incredible punch swords as well.
I don't mind seeing weapons being re-used for the final challenge, but it's nice to see another weapon I'd never heard of before, and one that's unusual because it's for an animal instead.
