A lot of players don't watch the ball onto the racket. You can see in the slow mo's at the end his head very clearly turns right before contact and then stays looking at the point of contact to help get a clean connection. The large backswing of some players and over eagerness to look at where the ball is going rather than where it is contributes to a lot of mishits. Very good video
