I have two mama silkies. They hatched chicks from one of my other hens and are raising them beautifully. I love silkies! They're the fluffiest, most docile breed. They're also the best at parenting
ADORABLE! I plan on getting one soon... i already have a yellow Cornish and a Silky Lace Winedot i think? Pretty back and white patterrn... a little Broody will be a sweet edition....
So I have 2 broody silkies who just hatched a clutch each... one hatched out 11 of her 14 eggs(they were a week along when I found her, so I let her keep them all) but my other hen only had 3 hatch successfully... so I am wondering if I should put a few from one hen over the other, or would they share the responsibility of I took the divider out of their coop? This is my first time, and their first time, so I'm just not really sure what to do. 🤷♀️
It feels like my hens have been sitting on their eggs for almost 2 months. How long before they hatch and should I help them with the hatching process being that we're indoors? When I say indoors I mean an apartment in the city. Thanks.
Seeing broody silkies makes me sad now because we got our first silkie chick in March with some other chicks and our toy poodle killed it last week. I was pretty sure it was going to be a hen too because we bought it as a straight run :( But those are some pretty silkies. How can they see? Lol
The best that you can do is bring her out of the coup each day and encourage her to walk around. ACV in the water may help a bit. If it is a must, changing out roosters may motivate her.
Hello dear can you tell me about when the silkies are chick ( a baby) they crying like the other baby chicken? I am worry to get one yes only one hen but I don't like when the baby chick crying or pipipi all day long only stop when the sleeping , and what is the best color to get /??and I see they are difference sizes of them too,Thanks
They don't need to see. They depend on humans to compensate for their deficiency. This is also why they are the most docile chickens. If they in any way cause humans to abandon them, they cannot survive by themselves. They evolved to be cute. This further reduces their chance of being abandoned.
What a good mama
Love the voice of a silkie

Elizabeth De Souza I recommend getting two, a single one alone will chirp very loudly and be all sad and alone.
Floof!
How do they even see?
