The Carnation Breakfast powder was called instant breakfast by me too! That's what I drank every morning with milk to regain weight when I was 11 & 12 years old. I was in fostercare for that time, and I had lost almost half of my body weight. I've still been drinking hot cocoa with milk during this crazy FREEZE that's in Tx right now.
Ignore the haters Christine! You shop the same way I do - stocking up on things when they're on sale, buying in bulk to save money, etc. This is not the same thing as 'hoarding'. I have shopped like this for many years and I know you have too. I always make sure that when I open something, I buy another to keep in the pantry, so I never run out. I hate running out of something when I'm in the middle of cooking. I was definitely grateful for these buying habits when the pandemic hit, but it is NOT the same as hoarding.
We are definitely on Team Bread!! Funny story: when my boyfriend (now, husband) and I were in college 50 years ago, he ate only bread for a week so he could afford to take me to his fraternity dance! He has been making bread, buns and sweet rolls from scratch for over 40 years. We are so, so spoiled!
Can you do a video on items that you can freeze that we may not know can freeze? I love finding out new things that are freezable to help save some money!
You can freeze milk, butter, cheeses (grate them first if you want it that way), yogurt, tofu, tempeh, nuts, seeds, grains, breads, tomato sauces and paste, eggs out of the shell (not that good), yeast (I'm still using yeast with an expiration of 2012 on it), chocolate, garlic bulbs, ginger, herbs. The list goes on. I don't like cooked frozen pasta (can't eat it with diabetes anyway), tortillas, any fresh fruits (put them on a cookie sheet so they don't clump together and then bag them). The list goes on. www.cooksmarts.com/articles/guide-to-frozen-food-storage/
My store RARELY has any clearance items. I came across guacamole packs on clearance my last trip. I grabbed them and put them in my freezer and thought to myself that FrugalFitMom would be proud.
Exactly! We always stay stocked on tp, even before the pandemic! We have 6 ppl in our house, lots of bits to wipe! Plus I used to extreme coupon so we’ve had a pretty good stock pile from the year of that. Def thankful I did that because weve been living off of it the past year!
I have a family of six. I have to buy the bulk packages to be sure we have enough for a couple of weeks. I'm not hoarding, I'm providing for my family. Those smaller packs do not last very long here.
Exactly! My family always buys 60-80 rolls when they're on sale! Usually they're about $6/10 rolls but on sale you get 20 rolls for 6$, so it's basically 50% off! We'd be stupid not to just stack up when that sale is going on, as toilet paper doesn't go bad and it'll last us until the next sale!
It definitely used to be called Carnation Instant Breakfast...their commercial ended in the tag line, “Carnation Instant Breakfast...You’re gonna love it in an instant!” My sister used to drink it all the time with breakfast to try to get some weight on her.
Yes. Carnation Instant Breakfast. As a child in the 60’s, I was very thin. My doctor told my mom to get Instant Breakfast to help me gain weight. As an adult in my 30’s battling cancer, it was suggested that I blend instant breakfast with ice cream to maintain weight/keep nutrients up. It’s a product that’s come in handy to me over time. Now I’m almost 60 and keep a box “just in case”. Better tasting that Ensure or those other type drinks
Girl, I’m a total toilet paper hoarder. I usually go two places (Costco and Sam’s) and buy a package at both places and there are only two of us. I have quite a bit but I also wasn’t freaking out when it was in short supply. I’m pretty sure it was always called Carnation Instant Breakfast in the past.
I love love love the excitement on your face when you were telling how you got the clearance bread! It's so something I do when I find great deals, I always make my boyfriend watch me unbag things once I get home from the grocery store 😅
The Kit Kats are Japanese. They have many different flavors of Kit Kats in Japan. If you get the Tokyo treat box every month you get a few different weird flavors of Kit Kats. Passion fruit isn’t a weird one, tbh. The sake flavored one is crazy! Lol
So, are kit kats a Japanese company? I thought it's an American company! 😳 I've asked for a certain deodorant to not have aluminum in it, and it was brought over from the UK. Imagine that! It's a USA company who didn't want to sell us healthy products. Idk why they do that??
@@kristinatidwell6563 It looks like Kit Kats are produced globally by Nestle. EXCEPT in the USA, where they are made by the H.B. Reese Candy Company. So Nestle does have a few factories in Japan where Kit Kats are made, yes.
The naan rounds are great for making flatbreads. I make a seasoned lemon ricotta, top it with some tomatoes, olive oil, and garlic, then bake it in the oven. You can add some honey, hot sauce, red chili, fresh herbs, etc. after it cooks. Good stuff.
Have you ever thought about doing a workout version of what I eat in a week? I thought it would be really motivating to see what you do for a week of workouts!
I recently found your RUclips channel and you have given me so many great ideas. I found my local-ish (20 minute drive) bread outlet and got 8 loaves (mostly organic) for $8! I had never heard of a bread outlet before and I'm never buying bread at the grocery store again. Today I got a bunch of meat on clearance at my grocery store and stuck it in my freezer. Thanks for helping me save $$$ for my family!
Put a bidet attachment on your toilets, they'll pay for themselves quickly enough. We have a Toto toilet with a heated bidet seat, heated water, and it even has a blower to dry you off. Which I've never used since I have no patience. But I haven't used tp in some time, and last year's shortage didn't even make it on our radar.
Did you watch the video from the guy who fought to get a loan so he could build a tiny home?? He built the garage and didn't build the house floor plan, he said that's all that he needed but for some reason the homeless people are just forced to stay homeless bc the banks won't finance building some small houses for people who don't have huge families. I've thought that's crazy!
I know it truly is a splurge or save up for item but I cannot recommend a bread maker enough. You just throw the ingredients into the machine in the order they are listed, hit a few buttons, and wait. 4 hours later you will have fresh, warm, homemade bread for a fraction of the cost and minimal effort. Cleanup is super easy as well.
It was totally Instant breakfast before. In the 70s as I was running out the door to the bus my mom would stop me and I would gulp down some. We were lucky that out the kitchen window my mom could see it coming and luckily he drove slow.
I had strict orders to bring every flavor KitKat I could find in Japan home to my son. There was strawberry, grape, cranberry, green tea, sake...I'm forgetting some for sure. Really fun to share! Also, it 100% used to be called Instant Breakfast!
@frugalfitmom. Gotta share this great bread freezing tip with you - I know you’re not a big paper towel person but if you put a piece of paper towel into each loaf of bread before freezing it, it will keep your bread just as fresh as the day you bought it even if it was in the freezer for months!
Apart from raw meat the "date" only is the quality warranty from the producer. Unopened dairy like yoghurt sometimes is good 1 month after the date. So dry oats should be fine even two months+ later and you don't even need to use them up in 6 months. ♥️
I feel like the more I watch these videos the more alike we are minus the love of coconut. The excitement over bread and naan is totally me! And sale prices are like shots of joy. You should make homemade pita bread if you haven’t before, watching it balloon up in the oven is magical.
We have a Great Harvest here too. I usually go to another locally owned bakery. I did a lot of animal charity work and we had to feed the workers. The other bakery would donate all the breads. Never blinked an eye. I can't eat the stuff now, diabetic, but they freeze everything and if what I want isn't there, I can ask if they have frozen ones. Discount on asking for the frozen. But, Great Harvest does have good bread.
My sister in law has lived in Japan on and off for years and she always brings us crazy flavored KitKats. Hazelnut flavored KitKat is everything. So, so, so good!!
Yes! You got the frosted honey bunches of oats! I was so happy to see that Ibotta, I took off to smiths on my lunch break to get that deal. Also I’m pretty sure they mark down at different times for each store. The store close to my home is always marked down in the evening, the one by my work place is done in the morning. You just have to learn your stores.
Christine my husband loves clearance almost as much as you! He went to our local Kroger and found 5lbs of ground meat for $6.69!!! He bought 19 packages so now our freezer is stocked with beef meals lol Sadly our stickers say reduced as well. Love your haul videos. Stay safe and warm.
Yeah. I live in a major west coast city. I pay 3-4 times what she does for most things. But the paychecks are 3-4 times higher out here to account for it (at least for my job)
My local Krogers are hit and miss on clearance (formerly "WooHoos!") I have not found great items there lately. But I do what you do with green peppers: on bulk clearance, in the orange mesh bags, I buy some, wash, chop and freeze single-layer on sheet pan then store in freezer bags in my freezer.
KitKats are from Japan. Japan gets all the really cool and unique flavors of American brand foods that never get sold in the US. In order to get them in the US You have to go to Asian markets or order from Asian markets online to get them. Sometimes you get lucky and find them on Amazon. There are Japanese subscription boxes that you can signup for that send you different Japanese snacks every month. There’s a Korean one too.
Don't feel bad about the toilet paper. I stocked up and it's just me. I have 3 packs of 12 rolls, and I'm working through the one. I think after the shortage, it's a good thing to stock up. I was lucky during the shortage, I had bought one big case right before the shortage, so I made it through.
I always have a box, or 2, or 3 of Built bars in my fridge at all times. Currently, I have a box of peanut butter bites and a box each of cookies and cream, double chocolate, and peanut butter brownie. They are delish!!
Reminds me of why I stopped shopping at bulk stores; just a whole bunch of processed food. She spent all that money and the only healthy items are the peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, and avocados. I would also have the same issue with their produce that she experienced with the lettuce, having to dig and dig through it because, most of it was mussy or browning.
So far, Wright Brand Bacon is THE BEST BACON I have ever put in my face. I love bacon. I eat it all the time. Wright is the BEST BEST BEST... drooling over here, gonna have to make a BLT for lunch!

Love your videos! You are very fortunate to have a huge kitchen & home. I have a small home and tiny kitchen. No pantry and very few cabinets. Having to put the can & dry food stuff I do buy in my son's bed room and in some of my bed room dresser drawers & clothes closet . I couldn't do this type of shopping because I'd have no where to keep it all! Enjoy watching your videos tho!!
For Kit Kat flavours, my favourite are original of course!, then Strawberry, Green tea. and Strawberry Cheesecake another fun one i had tried was the Sake Kit Kat (has 0.4% alcohol in it).
I have been watching for-ev-er and have still not tried clearance grocery shopping. I have been lazily/blissfully online shopping. Today I am officially inspired to at least go see what I find this week. What have I been missing.....or overspending on 🤔
It used to be called Carnation Instant Breakfast. I remember getting them occasionally. But, it was one of the things I got when I had my wisdom teeth removed.
Instant breakfast is what I call them too. It was from the commercial back in the day...LOL!! I can't remember what I did last week and I can remember the commercial from years ago.
It was in the commercial. "Carnation instant breakfast. You're gonna love it in an instant" it was a jingle so sing that don't just read it . 😆 seriously though I call it carnation instant breakfast too. That's how old I am. I remember that commercial.
I gave in and bought a mixed box of Built bars. tried the orange one today, oh my, it was actually fabulous! I love your videos, so funny, so great to watch you cook, and use foods in a budget way.
I hope everyone in this comment section has someone who looks at them the way Christine looks at clearance bread. 😍😍

I used to work at my local Great Harvest! I loved it!
I have been watching for-ev-er and have still not tried clearance grocery shopping. I have been lazily/blissfully online shopping. Today I am officially inspired to at least go see what I find this week. What have I been missing.....or overspending on 🤔
Great haul! Not sure if it's the same company but my first job was with Great Harvest Bread in Redmond, WA. 36 years ago!!
By the way you are not crazy I was born in 74 and growing up in Chicago it was always labeling Carnation Instant breakfast. They changed it a bit ago.
Back in the 70's that's what it was called Carnation Instant Breakfast!
You will like the Wright's bacon. It is my favorite thick slice bacon. Although it does take longer to bake. I always make my bacon in the oven. tfs
I think it used to say carnation instant breakfast. That is what we have always called them:)
Yes, I called it "instant breakfast" as well! Would have it for breakfast every morning while in school.
We call them Instant breakfast as well. And do not feel guilty about the case of TP. It is just my hubby and I and we buy it that way as well.
I gave in and bought a mixed box of Built bars. tried the orange one today, oh my, it was actually fabulous! I love your videos, so funny, so great to watch you cook, and use foods in a budget way.
They are Carnation Instant Breakfast in my house, too. I love the Salted Caramel Built Bar.
