Nah it always depends on your hair type and curling wand. Always feel the hair and if it's hot to the touch (which means all the heat has worked throughout your hair)
That’s why she’s using heat protectant.
honestly I think she might have the tool on a lower setting than we're used to. We always see tools as "high heat, short time" for hair... I might try the other way, "low heat, longer time"!

She probably held it longer because she’s using a bigger section of hair - it needs time to sit so the heat can get to the outside of the curl

I use a similar technique for my long, straight fine hair, except I take way smaller sections, curl them in the same manner and clip them to my scalp, otherwise a curl won't set. Once brushed out, they last a very long time in a uniform wave, so easy.
