I littlerally just had a clarinet and alto sax solo TODAY at the the jazz band concert at my college and they both featured "The Lick". It's beautiful to see the lick once more in the same day. The lick connects us all.
I found a few of these quoted great songs: 1:36- Hot House by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker 1:56- Four by miles Davis 2:26 -Hot House by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker
Very Nice Ms. Jimin!! Oh how I wish that U would use a on screen display (for the old man) so I can view your unique talent and how U do that thing U do even the more with a midi file!! Peace!!
So nice licks idea thanks ! Can u make a video for the accompaniment of the left hand in solo ? I’m always borrowed between bass or chord :/ Don’t know if my english is good, thx :D
Yeah, I was about to ask someone here to please explain #17 to me. The F# over the G7 is beyond my understanding, but it sounds great! Is this lick in the style of someone in particular?
jazmaan hmmmm I’m not entirely sure why the F# is there other maybe just adding tension? It’s also the tritone of C-7 so maybe that’s why? The rest of it is just based off of the half whole diminished scale
@@KeenBulldozer That's not what they meant. 😅 She performed the left hand in the video and one is able to pause or slow down the video to learn the notes. However, the mechanics as to how and why she's choosing those voicings and even perhaps where they originate (such as a certain musician being an inspiration) is what this commenter most likely wanted. It's like the teach a man to fish analogy: give us the chords and we learn to copy them. Give us the theory and we learn to expound upon that knowledge. Have a great day. 🙂
Ok. Now I’m subscribed! Loved the way you calmly kept the rhythm/accompaniment going throughout everything, loved the variety and creativity, especially loved the stride at the end. Wow, just wow, I’m off to watch everything I’ve been missing!!
Hey Jimin, how do you suppose we go about the licks so that it all makes sense to whatever we want to play. And how do we make these exercises become a fluent way we play in real-time on the spot. So far, I feel like everything I'm playing in improv is always based on these licks and I can't help but play them note for note without truly being able to express the bebop/blues language. Please help!
I wonder too. Maybe it helps to understand the concepts behind the licks. Like, in the first one on the ending Cmin7: why does it sound strange but good? Because you play the notes of C Maj7 and 9 in the right. I'm hoping that if you practice long enough and try to understand why things sound good, you can also improvise on those concepts, instead of just copying the licks note for note. Obviously the improv will not be as fast as a verbatim copied lick, but you could alternate between them for variation.
me gustaría información de tu libro Jimmin, habrá versión en inglés? sería fascinante!!!! saludos desde El Salvador. I Would lke to know about your jazz-piano-book, will there a English version? It would be fascinating!!! thanks a lot Jimmin!!!
Hey, thanks for these great licks. I bought them and I'm practicing right now. First time I'm planning to memorize multiple licks in 12 keys. Anyone got tips on how to practice 12 keys? First practice each lick in one key, or practice one lick in 12 keys? I'm a bit overwhelmed by the 120 combinations. Will muscle memory be good enough to recall such a large amount of variations, once practiced extensively? Someone with experience?
great - so helpful - found lots of great ideas in the major II V Is, and now lots more in the minor tonalty - thanks so much - hope there's more in store. For example, how about extending the licks to cover, for example VI II V I; or II V I IV.

지민님은 어떻게 초견연주 하시는지 보여주시면 정말정말 입시에 큰 도움이 될것같아요,,🥺🥺♥️♥️
Maybe a video on L.H. techniques? I'm always so bad at my left hand when playing jazz.
Amaizing . I enjoy so much .
I am going to copy those liks. Thanks a lot . You are a master
Your licks are soooo melodic and rythmic, keep up the good work !! As a new pianist, I'm super inspired

13,17 & 19 licks are killer sound! Love it!
I needed 3 weeks to learn 5 of those in all keys at 110bpm, 9 weeks more to go... I became part of my daily routine. Thanks Jimindorothy

Jazzy Chord substitutions along with tasteful use of diminished chords soon I hope
why is the 7th in Cm7 -- lick 9 not flatted? It sounds really good though!
because she plays on a Cminor melodic.
Using the leading tone in a minor key sounds cool
this is absolutely divine.
Thanks again for this. It is very very useful for practice.

This is so good, so helpful, to hear and seed these written out. Can't thank you enough; extremely useful, even though I don't play piano.
