My first review on an older season of toku! It's time for my thoughts on the first post-Decade season, the two-in-one detective that changed Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider Double!

Double gets points for me because they managed to break the trend of making just about every main Rider some shade of red. It got old after a while and I know they had to fight Toei’s higher ups to make the black and green look happen.

Oh and btw Faiz also only has red line with final form of red in suit. But Faiz's Suit mostly contains Grey and Black with Red Lines.
Still one of the best Kamen Rider of the Heisei 2. But hey, Nobody's Perfect.

Even after watching a sizable portion of the Heisei era, Double is still my all-time favorite season in the entirety of Kamen Rider. Shotaro and Philip are an amazing duo of protagonists, Ryuu's a badass, Akiko's not my favorite rider girl but far from my least favorite, the villains are cool enough (save for Foundation X), and I absolutely love the way it's paced. The suits are very basic but work really well, and Xtreme is a great final form. Not to mention, the music is all bangers. Double is just so great

@@bimoprakoso2820 a lot of riders have a female sidekick, or a “rider girl.” OOO has Hina, Fourze has Yuki, Drive has Kiriko, Zero-One has Izu, et cetera
Doubles modi of a going for a detective story while, having the two in one was a great way of changing Kamen Rider lore similar to Kuuga. I was taken by W's form a grasshopper it didnt look like it to me but its design is so simply yet so epic to watch
Anyone else love that for the lineup of main bosses in zi-o finale, they used utopia and not terror despite utopia not being in the show until like the end

And for being my first series, I will have to say its really fun actually as even if it follow the daily monster thing, the characters all have great development, over come barriers and all

It is. Raito is the Japanese pronunciation
I always thought it was a pun because Philips is one of the most famous electronic brands in the world and one of their most famous products is light bulbs. Philip = Light
It's a pun but not the one you're thinking. The pun is that shotaro name: hidari, means left, and Raito is The japanese pronunciantion of Right, reflecting their sides on double
@@anphony3760 I actually recently found this out and flipped shit before figuring out everyone else probably already knows..
Heres the trick to his real name. Its a two layered double meaning. When spoken it is meant to be both Right and Light. As he is the right half of W and the light of the Sonozaki family. But when written 来人 the kanji together mean "One who comes" seeding how he came back from the dead after falling into the Gaia Memory fountain. But this kanji 来 also has an etymology that ties it to things like the fruit of knowledge. Everything in W has this two layered meaning behind it. A double meaning. Take Shotaro's name. It sounds like that of series creator Shotaro Ishinomori, but its written form also ties to Kotaro Minami of Kamen Rider Black/RX. Who Renn Kiriyama is a huge fan of. Plus there are just a lot of similarities between W's two halves and The Black Sun and Shadow Moon. The Luna memory being described as the memory of illusions, like the shadow of a moon is one such example.
I love this season a lot. It was my 4th Kamen Rider season overall, and I gotta say, it was blown away since the 2nd episode! I understood why so many people loved it and it made me hyped for the next 2 in line because people have often said that this trinity of riders were some of the best. And while one of the other 2 delivered for me, (you'll be surprised by my answer on which didn't) W was my favourite out of the 3 for a lot of reasons. With that being said, looking forward to the next review!
And for those people wondering why I didn't say much about why I loved this season, DON'T ASK ME QUESTIONS!!!!

@@thomasjujube Thanks! Really love the quirks of each of the characters. They're signature one-liners always make my day. Especially Shotaro's 'NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!'. I've always wanted to try to use these lines in real life, which if I have to be honest here is not really that hard considering I'm in college with a bunch of memetic situations. XD But all in all, I love this season, not my favourite, but it sits on its own pedestal in my books.
Side note, you and I have the same favourite season, Ex-Aid!

I think legacy review is a good name.
I quite liked Akiko, she had so much heart and courage. She would get so emotionally invested in the main heroes and the clients, when I would get excited over and big moment she would get excited with me, and when she would try to stand up to the villains even tho she wasn't a rider, I thought it was really cool of her. Also my favorite character troupe is a dumb THOT with a heart of gold.
Never seen it. I've literally only seen my first Kamen Rider a few hours before watching this video. Kuuga, if you're wondering. But Holy Handgrenade, Batman! Double looks awesome! I'm definitely watching it soon, maybe even before I finish Kuuga, watch them together. Also, unrelated but I want to mention it, I think Philip is really cute.
Hated akiko but loved everything else. I do agree with your point on the final boss and your idea for keeping Philip dead while maintaining he's conscious when they transform

Yeah, Foundation X usurping the ending was BS.
I actually really love Foundation X as a concept as a series-wide underground organisation but introducing them to completely undermine the villains was a terrible move.
And Long running franchises having to revive a character at the end is kind of a thing. Look at Shadow from Sonic.
I think the strong characters really helped carry the show overall even if the 2 parter isn’t the best format it was a way to give a case extended time in a way.
Overall, I’m Glad Double broke away and took risks because it helped give us some much needed variety for the future.

Ah, Double. My first Kamen Rider Show!
I'm really thankfull with the Anime, I watched Fuuto Pi. Finish it and was confuse af because it was like there was a lot of information missing, then I learn it was more of a Sequel for W. So I check it out and cough my curiosity, watched it and loved it. The "twists" of the Overall Plot were predictable, with Philip being Wakana lost brother and Shroud being the mum, it was obvious and overall the Sonozaki was you clasic bad guys. But the show itself still had some special Charm to it, mainly from Philip and Shotaro Dinamic and interaction. I love them.
I had some issues with the shows, but damn the kind of Balanced Seriousness-Comedy was my type of narrative and I enjoyed all the main characters. W was so Silly and I love some Silly shit haha
I was BAWLING with Philip Sacrifice and even at the end in the Scene where Philips talks with his family one last time... W has such a special place in my heart and thats why it is my Top 1 in spite of some some things I feel could have been better~
I know W is not the best KamenRider Show, but is still really good and is a special one for me
I just finished the series, it was my introduction to the kamen rider world and I really liked it, I saw that it has a power combining mechanic and I jumped right into it.
Overall was a good series, but the ending was so bad... it was so rushed and the random kazoo guy made it worse.
I also didn't liked that Akiko ended up with ryu, like c'mon there was no build up for that romance aside that ryu always treated her with respect, her relation with shotaro and how they know and understand each other was way better...
And how anticlimactic was the final battle, at least the death of Philip was really touching, but they fucked that with reviving him the next episode...
But like you said, the family saying goodbye to him was really touching too.
It's so weird to me that people find Akiko annoying to the point where they hate her being in the show. She meshes really well with Shotaro and the rest of the cast.
W's cast feels like a really tight-knit group of friends that can get up to the stupidest things together, even terui who comes of as incredibly edgy at first gets pulled in.
Like when Akiko gets hooked on Japanese period drama dvds, shotaro makes fun of her for it but also watches all of the show in 1 night during the same case. Later they both are interested in watching the movie for the period drama series when they are in the cinema episode.
Kamen Rider tends to have awfully written female characters that either work as plot devices in the show or are barely important eye candy who have hardly any interaction with the main rider aside from some weird romance plot or being an assistant when it comes to rider work.
Akiko breaks that mold for me as she is more of a friend character than a female lead, no awkward romantic tension and she often feels like the closest friend shotaro has as phillip is pretty distant for most of the show.
Exactly. The only comparison for Akiko is Mi-chan from KR Build where both are technically friends of the protagonists. But michan falls from friend into plot devices so fast that it actually de-evaluate her from friend categories. It's good to have akiko around rather than michan who only have interactions at HQ.

What i do remember back in 2009, double might have some relation to shadow moon, antagonist for black/rx, but it just a rumor
Not its not a rumor. Shotaro and Philip are somewhat modeled after Black and Shadow Moon. Philip being Nobuhiko in that he had his mind messed with to work with the bad guys. Shotaro's named being a double meaning on sounding like Shotaro Ishinamori's name but its written form referencing Kotaro more. The Luna Memory being called the Memory of Illusions, like the shadow of a moon. Luna and Trigger can be seen as subtle nods to Bio Rider and Robo Rider. Being flexible and tricky and a sharp shooter. Basically they are the "Good Ending" version of the Century King brothers
Also Renn Kiriyama who plays Shotaro is a huge fan of Kamen Rider Black and thats half the reason Kamen Rider Joker exists

10:50, I always prefer the Sonozaki family over the Greeeds between W and OOO because the Sonozaki family seems like they can totally fit in the Batman rogues' gallery which I'm a sucker for anyways. You might never know what they'll do next.
They could be running for president or going to a fancy party and then BOOM,things and shit happens.

Bandai finally cracked down on the leaks after all these years; Kiramager's was fully digital so there was no way to get pictures. We can't be fully sure until later this month with the sixth ranger scans but for now it seems we'll just be sticking to text leaks
Here is the thing about that Philip's consciousness being in his Gaia memories, it wouldn't work. It would just seems like a they are playing off a sci-fi theme which is not the point of this show.
Don't they have a lot of programming imagery though? And Matrix-esque effects? seems like something that could fit in with the show imo
They don't. The Gaia memories are basically USB drives with info on a subject. Extreme might be the only exception but it's going to need a little twicking if you know what I mean for that to work
I think that in one of the last episodes they have Philip’s consciousness in the Gaia memories

This might not be true cuz i don't k ow if i atched Ryuki or W first on tv, but ruclips.net/video/6L1w-3xLQWY/видео.html i saw this on tv one day. I didn't know what it even was, but it was awesome. I didn't even like the suit at first, but it grew on me and i started to love the suit. After watching this season, it became my favorite season. It was unique, it was cool, i like the fact that Shotaro is a detective, the 2 people as 1 rider plot, episode 48 (not 49), and even Fuuto city. It was a unique season. It was a great season yet also a simple and nice season.

My only complain with double is basicalt the desing of cyclone joker, i dont like cyclone colors, if be red or purple would be more badass, orthey could usethe build desing, i alway tought that build was a upgrade to the W concept.
My favourite series so far.
1) Clean looking suit (except for its xtreme form) Fang Joker is awesome.
2) Engaging storyline with great themes
3) Memorable female lead (Akiko)
