Disney glosses over the real urban legend. But they didn't take away from the actual story. That's truly magical what they did with Peter Pan. And even the hunchback of Notre Dame or Snow White. Those stories were originally very dark but Disney shined a light on those dark stories.

This reminds me of a play I watched as a kid about Rapunzel.
(Here's the story)
When Rapunzel's real mom was pregnant, she would always ask her husband for cabbage, but because they were broke the husband would, every night, have too steal cabbage from the witch (Rapunzel's soon too be stepmom). One night the witch cought the husband stealing her cabbage and threatened too curse them. The husband begged her too let them go and explained their situation. The witch said she wouldn't curse them and they could take as much cabbage as they'd like them if they gave her the child after it was born. He had no other change but too exept the deal. After Rapunzel was born, the witch locked her in her tower. One day, a charming prince saw the tower and decided too climb up too see what was inside, he found a beautiful princess. After a week, the prince slept with Rapunzel and Rapunzel got pregnant. While they were sleeping, the witch found them together (she was super too be gone for a month, but came back early). She threw the prince of the tower and he fell among thorns. The thorns pearced his eyes making him permanently blind, using her magic she banished him somewhere in the forest. Rapunzel started too get worried about where he was. Her stepmom told her he probably left her because men are always like that but Rapunzel didn't believe her. They got in this huge argument and her stepmom banished her into the forest too. The price and Rapunzel meet again, now their love stronger then every, kissing in the sunset Rapunzel's powers were finally revealed, his eyes healed immediately. Rapunzel had twins and they lived happily ever after. (I wish I was joking, 7 year old me had too watch that 🥀)
