    Hands down the best in the series. It’s the most personal journey and most important journey for indie. It’s where his arc of being a hero is truly completed. In temple he’s all about “fortune and glory” where as in raiders he’s more willing to do the right thing, as for this movie he lets go of the grail entirely for his father but also for the betterment of the world so it doesn’t fall into the hands of people like Donovan or Elsa.
    Edit: It’s also a hilarious movie. My favourite scene is when indie says to Donovan that “Brody's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom, he'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see him again” as if he’s some archeological genius only for the movie to cut to Brody in a crowded city, sticking out like a sore thumb, yelling in the most English accent ever “does anyone speak English here?!” Brilliant

      @natethebluesman Год назад

      aw man you missed one of the best parts. Brody doesn’t just ask if anyone speaks English, he also asks if anyone speaks ancient Greek as well!

      You said in Raiders he’s all about doing the right thing, but in this one he’s willing to let the grail go for his father. Isn’t that also the “right thing”, he at least thought it was. Also in Temple of doom, he frees and entire population of people. I don’t think he just did that for fortune and glory.

    This is truly the only Indiana Jones movie where Indy goes through a character arc. He goes from atheist and unbeliever to taking a true leap of faith and believing in the supernatural. Powerful stuff that not even Raiders gives us

      Thanks for checking out my video essay. I totally agree about how Indy has the most character development in this movie, compared with the other entries in the franchise. This movie is all the better for it, in my opinion.

      He goes from greedy grave robber, to giving the stone to the village in TOD. He has a character arc in that film.

    • @damiantirado9616

      Not true. Indiana Jones goes through a character arc in temple of doom. At the beginning he only cares about fortune and glory. He wants to take the magical stones for money. But then he becomes involved with the child slaves and wants to save them. It’s an underrated movie.
      Indiana Jones actually has an arc in every movie, it’s subtle but it’s there. And he learns something new. So yes indiana Jones does have character development it’s just very subtle.

      Isn't Indy looking away at the end of Raiders after saying he doesn't believe in that mumbo jumbo at the beginning, an arc too?

    • @chrisobrien6254
      @chrisobrien6254 8 месяцев назад

      I don’t know about that. Have you seen “Raiders”? He does the same in Raiders too, it’s just more subtle and not as in your face. At the beginning he calls it hocus pocus and at the end well….we know how it all ends. Also Watch the map room scene in Raiders. He definitely believes, even before the climax of the film.

    This is my favourite of the movies for a number of reasons:
    1) This was the very first Indy movie I ever watched
    2) It has more character than the other movies
    3) The dynamic between him and his dad. They played off each other so well and it’s a joy to watch

    Growing up, I always loved Last Crusade because of the interplay between Indy and Henry Sr. But Raiders is still a masterpiece and the best one to me.

    Yes absolutely! I have always stated this is the best Indy film! Incredible film, one of the best films ever, it has a much better emotional through-line and better action than the original. Good choice @Hollywood Town

    I’m 14 and this movie is just perfection, the plot, the character development, the slight comedy between Indy and his dad, the over all villains, the extra edition of Markus and sallah, the over all music, don’t get me started with the scenes it’s all perfection hands down.

    I concur this is my favourite of the entire franchise. The father & Son dynamic between Ford and Connery is pitch perfect and so on point. This is the entry that blends a high dosage of humour and action. This is definitely my Number 1 Indiana Jones movie 🍿 above both Raiders of the lost Ark and Temple of Doom. It has an incredibly satisfying closing ending that for a long while was a great closer when the series was still a trilogy.

      Absolutely not, it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen, I am going to come right out and say I would rather watch Batman and Robin or Crystal Skull over Last Crusade.

    My favourite Indy movie is Raiders of the lost ark. 2nd favourite is the Last Crusade. Raiders gave us indiana Jones in the 1st place as a character and since then Indiana Jones is now iconic. Hat, whip, gun, leather jacket, crumpled shirt, baggy trousers in fact those who like to cosplay the items are an important part of looking the part of there hero. Not forgetting the theme music composed by John Williams.

  • @Waterboyofsuperman

    Definitely my favorite of the series. Your review helped me explore why. I agree it’s the most emotional. The father-son dynamic and the character-driven aspect is what puts in over the top.
    And apart from the last shot, that tank action sequence looks amazing, and is probably my favorite in the series.
    There seems to be a thematic subversion also. In the lecture towards the beginning of the film, Indy shares a list of premises, among which is that “x never, ever marks the spot”, which is of course violated minutes later in the Venician library. That said, I’ve always viewed it as a nod to true archeology, a tacit acknowledgment that the film really has nothing to do with real archeology; this is really just a fun action movie.
    The Elsa character is probably the weakest part. She’s likely my least favorite of all the women in the movies. It’s not just the acting; I think it’s acted fairly well. But the character writing leaves something to be desired.

      Thanks for checking out my video essay. I'm glad my video gave some insight into your love for this great Indy movie. Absouletly, the tank action scene is the standout of the series, great cinematography and stunt work are on-display in this scene.

    I think its a really good movie, but I prefer Temple of Doom b/c of its high energy, creativity, and story. However, Last Crusade is funniest and has the best character work in the series. Also, Sean Conney is just perfect in this movie.

    Well presented argument! I still prefer Raiders but this film does have more of a character arc. The score, however, is nowhere near as iconic as Raiders (which you kind of proved by using the Raiders score here).

      Thanks for checking out my video essay. I think nostalgia and personal preference plays a big part of which Indy movie is your favourite. Nonetheless, I can't argue against Raiders being your favourite in the series, one of the greatest action-adventure flicks of all-time.

    This movie is the weakest of the original trilogy. I'm a huge Indiana Jones fan, but this movie is a copy of Raiders, and lacks originality. I still like it, and it's slightly better than KOTCS, which I like as well.

    I just watched it for the first time since I was a kid, and unfortunately, it was not as good as I remembered. It's way too goofy and slapstick to the point where it doesn't take itself seriously enough. Donovan is a boring villain, the Nazi threat feels like a retread of Raiders, and Salah is thrown in for no good reason and serves absolutely no point in the narrative. 6/10
