It's not like they weren't close before Hawaii, they just were't as close as they might have been with the other members. BTS said it themselves they didn't really interact as much as everyone else. Ever since Hawaii they definitely became closer. It's weird because before Hawaii there were people that even thought they straight up hated each other. I saw comments like "Suga is such an asshole to Tae." etc etc. A small part of me was a little worried about it even though I knew those people didn't know what they were talking about, Tae and Yoongi never really interacted much on screen so I just couldn't help but wonder. I would try and look up Taegi moments to reassure myself that they were friends but there really weren't that many videos back then. When Bon Voyage season 2 came out (and we knew about their friendship trip before hand because of festa) I was super happy.
