    For the sake of perspective. The current marathon World record holder on Concept2 is a Canadian heavyweight Ben de Wit with 2h21'08.7. This gives a 1:40.35/500m split and 346W of average power output. Esslinger finished in 2h43'43, that is a 1:56.4 split and 222W. Due to the non-linear relation of power to times/splits, de Wit had to row 56% harder in wattage to finish only 16% faster. Rowing is brutal.

    Separating out the specific parts and tools for each of the seven step assembly process steps was brilliant on the part of the manufacturer. For the price, I am impressed at how sturdy this ruclips.net/user/postUgkxvObaTzoHoHQLL4lHbJQmExHqsrZQm-f7 unit is and it does go together easily. Well, I was puzzled at first at Step 5 and maybe the instructions should mention that rail #62 needs to be tilted upwards a little to get the rail to fit into the main part #44. I like it that the rower can be stored vertically in a really small amount of space, but be forewarned that this rower is top heavy and for safety you'll need at least two bungee cords to keep the unit upright, attaching them to something; in my case to a third garage door. I have had this unit only a short time, and I will post an update once I've had it for a year. As for working your legs, I have to admit that I'm mainly rowing for upper body strength and I use other forms of exercise for leg strength (like walking fast, biking, or using a trampoline. But if you pull as far forward as possible, then you can give preference to your legs for the first 4 feet or so of travel. I also admit to not taking the two electronic connectors apart at Step 7. I simply inserted the two batteries while the other parts remained connected. By the way, there is plenty of resistance here, even in the lowest resistance settings. Kudos to Sunny Health & Fitness !

    I'm a rower, and this hurts to watch because a lot of the form i'm seeing actually slows them down and doesn't allow them the full potential of the pull. If they had learned for someone who actually knew how to use the machine, it could be so much better. Some of them are doing it in ways that could add injury, and it just hurts me to see them pulling wrong when they probably had easy access to a boathouse and could have learned to erg from the people who know it best (rowers). It would help so, so much.

Half of the class is solely spent on form and it is definitely not easy. As to those who have said “ that isn’t safe” there is a difference between CrossFit as a sport and CrossFit as a hobby/ general fitness regiment; just as with any high level sport there is a chance you will get injured, that is why mobility and recovery is so stressed, your CNS can only take so much. T he classes are well designed, structured and supervised and at no point have I "injured" myself. There were times when my shoulders or joints were strained, but with stretching, yoga and massage I managed to recover quickly.
    My 10,000 meter row is at about 46 minutes so I figured th at we would see a few finishers by the time the clock struck 3:00. I commend ALL of these ATHLETES on their strength and performance, and even though it's unrealistic for a 33 year old with minimal athletics in my school years to dream of competing in these games, there's nothing stopping me from at least trying to reach that level of performance.

    • @noahebbes5635
      @noahebbes5635 3 года назад +1

      They should stay put. At the beginning of the ‘pull’ you only push with your legs. You can better place your strength when the heels stay down.

    • @euan1234
      @euan1234 2 года назад

      there really is no right/wrong answer. Lifting your heels will enable a longer reach to the catch and therefore a longer stroke - you just have to make sure you push with the balls of your feet and then get the heels down during the drive. Look up as many talented rowers on the erg as possible to see how they do it - Eric Murray, Mahe Drysdale, DarkHorse Rowing, RowingWod, Sinkovic Brothers etc - most of them will be raising the heels.
