Next, Amazon Prime will announce that it is changing its video feed to black-and-white and charging us $4.99 a month to keep the color. This is wrong because it is a bait-and-switch. I already pay for my subscription and one of the reasons I pay for streaming services is to avoid advertising.
Don't give them any ideas. But yeah, it is disgusting that they have done this. I haven't yet cranked up my prime video stuff so I am curious as to whether or not their logo appears on the screen during actual content if you're not paying the $3. And yes, bait-and-switch as well as the top of the slippery slope. Back in 2009 (or thereabouts) I canceled the showtime, hbo, and cinemax packages I had on directv because they all put their logo on the screen during the content. I consider that 'editing' the content and as they were considered 'premium' packages, editing wasn't supposed to happen. To think, I miss the pre-1978 days of tv advertising. Why, you ask? Well, because during that time, ad-time was regulated to no more than 5 minutes per 30 of show and 10 per 60 minutes. After 1978, deregulation allowed for, I guess we'd call it, the market to determine how much. And when one monkey does it, the other monkeys do it and here were are (well, it's been a while) but we now have double that amount of ad-time as well as the logos and hashtags and on-screen text. Fun story: Around 1999 or so the SciFi channel announced with great fanfare that they were going to show the entire original Star Trek series uncut. I thought, great, we'll get 10 minutes of ads. And the breaks will be where they originally were (that's another problem with shoving old-time shows into current time-frames, the breaks don't happen at the proper time). Alas, when the schedule came out I was sad (well, not sad, but bummed out) to see that no, it wasn't going to be a 60-minute episode, but rather an over-stuffed 90-minute episode. Yep, an extra 30 minutes of ads to see it all. Fifty minutes of content and 40 minutes of ads. To quote my favorite clown: Homey Don't Play That Game.
Of course, the frequency of ads, and the length of ad breaks will slowly increase over time, just as they have done on every other streaming service with ads.
Yes! I recently watched a movie on Hulu and I was shocked! It used to he that you would see a longer ad at the beggining and then watch the rest of the movie ad free, now it shows many ad breaks through the movies! How sad!! I loved hulu because I would always get the really cheap black friday $1 or $2 a month deal.
Watched a movie. I had ads at: 5 min- 90 sec of ads 12 min- 90 sec of ads 32 min- 400 sec of ads - I'm barely 1/3 into the movie. I accidentally rewound too much, so I had to rewatch the same 2+ min of ads 3 times. This is "minor advertising?" BS. Prime was already difficult to rewind & fast forward. At this rate, ads makes a 90 min. movie 150 min. long. It's not worth it.
Agreed it’s ridiculous a 3rd more per month , it’s nothing but greed look at how much there gona earn with ads on in revenue, personally I think 8.99 was more than enough when compared to other streaming networks.
