Jordan loved playing defense. This was why so many former NBA players feared him on the court. Even now, some of them are still having nightmares of Michael Jordan.
DPOY whilst averaging 35ppg, 9 steals in a half, first player with 200 steals/100 blocks (done twice), arguably best shot blocking guard and defensive guard in general, 6'6, center sized hands, reported 48 inch vert...how is he not the GOAT ?
Jordan was built to dominate this game. Speed, quickness, agility of the fastest NBA small guards....Hand size of a Center.... Hops of the most athletic mid-sized wing players...Durability of the most conditioned Olympic athletes....Strength of a Big Man....and the Mental game, competitive fire all to himself.
He's not the GOAT to only King Flop superman lovers. The rest of us that have been watching b-ball since 1979 and witnessed him in the flesh know it's not even a debate.
@@bwink23 Glad you mentioned his durability. His stamina was legendary. I just saw an interview yesterday with Bimbo Coles where he's talking about Jordan playing 36 holes the morning of a Game 3 playoff game in Miami. Coles said Miami was up big after first quarter and they started running their mouths. Jordan went off and scored 50+ points. The guy exerted so much energy at both ends and he still had the stamina to take over late in crunch-time. Just amazing to watch. Here's the Coles interview. ruclips.net/video/lfkWewPWWD4/видео.html
@@katrinachavez3533 He has to be talking about Jordan's 56-point playoff game against the Heat. Jordan had only 2 points after the first quarter....54 points in the last 3 quarters on 20-30 shooting.
@@katrinachavez3533 Just watched your link...yep, that was the game lol...I remember this game well because I DID NOT watch it live lol...that was my fault. Some friends and I were watching it, but Jordan only had 2 points after the first quarter, and it looked like the Bulls were going to drop this game. It was great weather outside so we said screw it, let's go play some ball. Wasn't until later that night we found out Jordan went off. Bummer, thank God for RUclips.
This goes back to Kenny saying Jordan was the only player to have great fundamentals and great athleticism. His defense was text book but his quick hands and feet is what made him a great defender. The highlights don't show him locking down players in the perimeter, and that's what made him great at defense.
Love watching you geek out to MJ. Watching him live while young, you missed the fundamentals he exuded cause you were so amazed by his exciting play. Wasn't till hearing other players and former players talking about it. Keep it up brutha!
Other NBA players didn't fear Jordan's deadly scoring as much as his deadly defense. He could make the best in the world look like 3 year olds playing against a professional.
The truth! A reporter once asked Alex English, one of the greatest scorers all-time, who was a better defender between MJ and Pippen. Alex told the guy that when they played the Bulls he torched Scottie for 20+ pts. in first half. He heard at half-time Jordan was livid at Pip for allowing Alex to go off. Jordan told Pip he would guard Alex in second half, a half where English only scored 4 pts. This video showed two of MJ's blocks on Alex in the fourth quarter. Foes were petrified when that perimeter pitbull was unchained like Django.
Jordan is like Kawhi (good anticipation on steals, good defensive stance/fundamentals on pick offs, quick hands/agile) and Wade (all time blocking guards), on top of that he's fully capable of playing lock down defense too. He's just unreal.
Great reaction, as always 🙌🏻😊! Never a dull moment in basketball when MJ played. He was so good I didn’t always care about who won bc he was just amazing to watch regardless 😂. And he did so many things so well it was hard to single out anything. I’m glad you reacted to this bc many (who haven’t seen him play) think of MJ as only a scorer but he was just as good of a defender. Just an amazing athlete and entertainer.
I actually have to argue with Lebron-Stans sometimes that Jordan was the better defender. Jordan on Defense He was the first player in history to be selected to 9 All Defensive First teams. He was the first player in history to get 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season, it has still only been done by 3 players. (Michael did it twice). He was the NBA steals leader 3 times. He's the only guard in history, relative to his position, both in the Top 5 for blocks and Top 5 for steals. He was the defensive Player of the Year and Scoring Champion in the same year, the only player in history to accomplish this. His 131 blocks for the 1988 season is still the most blocks in a season by a guard in NBA history.
The first time Jordan got 200 steals, 100 blocks in a season, he was ROBBED of even a First Team All-Defensive selection (they gave him 2nd team 🙄). That was the first time EVER anyone had accomplished that. Jordan knew he was getting shafted for Defensive notoriety, as he mentioned in the interview at the beginning of the video. The NBA simply could not believe one man could score all those points AND be a defensive monster at the same time.

When he was in college, he jumped so high (to block a shot) that he hit his head on the backboard.
Some games they wouldn't pass the ball on Jordan side... Why he helped so much!
