We're obviously aware of and deeply concerned about the global pandemic, and are choosing carefully what to publish as forms of escapism and entertainment to help ease thoughts of anxiety, and provide an alternative from the news. We are obviously NOT encouraging anyone to travel now or discouraging social distancing.
What's your most overrated travel attraction?

The tower of Pisa itself is beautiful regardless of being slanted - rich in details despite dating back to the 12th century! It's situated in a historical site with baptistry and cathedral - all featuring that unique architecture (both more stunning than the tower, I'd say). The town itself is pleasant to stroll around - historical and vibrant, being a university city and all.
Considering Pisa is a stone throw's away from magnificent Florence, it's definitely worth a visit.

A lot easier than the video is claiming.
Tour was very interesting, and the views of the mountains and lowlands surrounding are well worth viewing.

  • @myrddrral

    The ones I've actually seen:
Mona Lisa: agree. Got a very strong "what, this is it?" reaction.
Pisa: went during the winter. Almost no tourists. Managed to walk around, see the square, other architecture there. Much less disappointed than with the Mona Lisa.
London Eye: maybe not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. A contemplative experience. However, went during the last days of the fall, with very nippy winds tearing down the Thames, and therefore almost no tourists, so your mileage may vary.
One thing I don't get is why the emphasis on "not having to walk" in the video. Is this directed at (very) senior citizens, grossly overweight, or handicapped people? Everyone else might actually enjoy walking, just saying...

I agree with many of the items on this list... but seriously, Venice overrated? Venice is an incredible city, its streets are made of water, with buildings facing direcly the canals. It has plenty to offer, museums, parks, churches and sinagoges, many small islands and even beaches, how can you tell it's overrated only because you have to walk? And only touristic gondolas cost 80 euros, for a small price you can take one that make you cross one of the main canals (Canal Grande or Giudecca). It's true, it's ovecrowded with tourists, but it's worth a trip once in the lifetime!

How can a unique prehistoric monument be overrated? That's a bit like saying Pompeji is overrated because all the buildings are destroyed.
I think the only thing that's overrated is applying some kind of arbitrary, superficial "rating" to cultural and natural sites that mean a lot to many different people for various reasons. Have you even been to some of the many churches and museums in Venice, or did you just buy an overpriced espresso in Piazza San Marco?
Also, don't confuse the ignorant behaviour of some tourists (i. e. in the Louvre) with the meaning and significance of art, architecture, and nature.

  • @MG-ot2yr
    @MG-ot2yr 3 года назад

I agree with most of them, but like others have mentioned, Venice isn't overrated, overcrowded yes but it has such a unique charm. There's ways to beat the crowds, always stay in Venice, and reverse commute, during the day go to other lagoon islands or other places on the mainland, returning in the late afternoon/evening when all the daytrippers have left. You can also just go when its flooded lol
Stonehenge is not worth paying to go in and see it, so yes its overrated. You used to be able to just see it from the road but I think they've changed things since I last did a drive by. But Little Mermaid or just stopping in front of Buckingham Palace for a few pics, then carry on, is totally free.....I wouldn't alter my itinerary for them though, but if you're already in the area, its not going to hurt you.

I so disagree with Venice, it has a vibe like no other, you can easily get out of the crowds by venturing into the charming streets and going to the places where locals hang out, not to mention off season, it's cheaper too! For anyone that hasn't visited Venice I highly recommend you do so it's a one of a kind experience and by far the best trip I've ever been on

    1. This may be because I am European (English), but why do you always complain about walking? The only time I have heard someone moan about walking is my mother who has 2 slipped discs, arthritis in near-every joint in her body, and a torn muscle in her ankle. And that is after an hour or two. 30 mins of walking won't make you collapse, it is healthy and good for the environment.
    2. Venice? Really? I have seen stretches in travel, but *Venice?* Also, you can bypass most of the tourism by going in April-May and September-October.

@@davidz2808 well, if you measure your travel experience in the number of pictures you take, there are plenty of rewarding motives around the piazza del duomo - not just the tower (which is certainly one of the most beautiful campaniles in italy). there's the magnificent cathedral, the baptistery, the campo santo. the botanical garden is also very beautiful. you can spend a very fulfilling day in pisa - provided you are a bit interested in architecture and history. for everyone else one pic may be enough.

    No, mojo. Bad! Bad mojo!!
    Where to begin? Here goes.
Venice is expensive. Yes. And? There are people there. No s sherlock. I wonder why? This isn't Vegas. This is real, authentic, culture and history. Not plastic. Not air conditioned, pampered, abandoned, free and you are not carried around on a sedan chair.
The "Moanahleeza" is a painting. It is not building size wall art. That is the point. Someone bothered to pour themselves into it's creation hundreds of years ago. With passion, love and flair. Oh, and there are other people there. Who aren't you.
Stonehenge. Thousands of years old. A major indicator of early civilisation and culture. If you think this is just a bunch of stones then stay (at) home. You're not needed or wanted here.
This isn't Vegas... This wasn't build this century. This is humanity, art, passion, creativity, struggle. History. Look it up. It's between heretic and neanderthal.

Traditional tourist attraction are place full of culture so it doesn't always have to be beautiful - it's meaningful.....
I don't like crowds either but it's just movies (American mostly) that make the illusion that you can have an romantic all alone views of famous places.....
Walking well Europe does walk a lot and I think people are fine with it.
I don't like either the list or the tone .....also you can say that about any place that was overused and shown in movies/series differently that is actually is (Egyptian piramids, great Wall of China, Rodeo Drive or any other place people romanticise , what to be alone at, see at sunrise/sunset etc) It is called a "tourist attractions " after all and not an "obscure stunning location - for your eyes only".
