- One of our favorite parts of overlanding is the food! Overland, or camp kitchens come in all sizes and varieties and we do our best to cover a wide range of options. Sporks, JetBoils, Stanley Cooksets, coolers, stoves, drawer systems, and all the way up to Patriot Camper's camp kitchen and galley systems, Clay gives an overview of the overlanding and camp kitchen setups we have used at Expedition Overland. I got a jetboil when I was in the army in 2011 to make coffee still use it today and love it
Very informative. Been camping fop years and I learned much. Investing in good gear matters (buy once, cry once). Your insight about going slowly to design the galley system that works best, is worthwhile.
I've been car camping since the early 70's when we were stationed in the UK. We hauled a small trailer of camping gear throughout Europe. However, as an empty nester car camping turned into overland camping and I'm enjoying the experience of building my Jeep SUV into a well organized and comfortable rolling "motel room" but much better prepared with creature comforts...especially when it involves meals and preparation. Hopefully in the very near future I will be able to do this full time as I slowly downsize and work out solutions of permanent storage for items I cannot give up. Clay, you touched on a very important point beginning with your jetboil and stove. Experience is a great teacher.

Hate to be THAT guy, but could you talk about showers (wipes, solar showers, etc) and toilet systems and how you resolve privacy issues? Please address this with Rachelle for those of us who camp with our wives and daughters. Cheers.

These are the best videos on ‘over landing’ I’ve seen. I also like Ronny Dahl from Australia. Lots of wise & generous free advice born of experience from both parties.

The Weber q grill is one of the best and longest lasting grills I've ever owned! My first one lasted me 12 years, I have since upgraded from the Q100 to the Q2200. One of the biggest things that amazed me was I never once changed the battery in the electronic igniter. Lol good video clay cant wait to see what's up next.

For those looking at getting the O-Meals option for packed food. You don't need to heat water before hand. It has a heating element inside of it like an MRE. Just add water to the bag and it should heat your food in about 15 minutes.
You guys are awesome!!! You're show on amazon prime is the best show I've seen in a long long time! Your show makes my fiance and I want to pack our 4runner full of camping gear and just go and not look back. We plan on doing a cross country road trip sometime, once we get the opportunity. Are you guys doing an episode on first aid? I'm curious to see what you guys put emphasis on based on your experience. As a paramedic in New Orleans, La I find a lot of people put emphasis on things that I wouldn't think as much about based on their experiences and environment.
This is a great video. I really like the gradual upgrade of each kitchen. Also the sound is terrible goes in and out.
That is no joke about you say about the TITANIUM SPORK. You are def not a over lander without a titanium spork. How true is that ! Thank you for sharing your video.
Really cool to see the way you guys keep stuff organized. What do you do for sourcing and purifying water in the backcountry or sketchy towns? Also, can you do XO logoed titanium sporks for the fans??

How often do you deal with the frequent visitation of the big/furry random kind...having your galley/food/etc directly below your RTT/sleeping area as opposed to hanging in some tree a couple hundred yards away? Seems like an invitation for them to come and explore while you are catching some zzzz’s....

Uhhh, have to show those kitchen knives with the kydex sheaths. Man, that was a flex, but necessary.
Just a quick heads up, the anamorphic bars you’re using don’t quite cover your frame. It looks like you’ve got about a pixel of bleed around the edges. If you’re still using FCPX they have the faux-anamorphic build in which can save this from happening in the future without dropping a .png on the clip.
What are the bowls/plates set you use? I like those gray bowls because they stack nicely. We've struggled to find something durable but also easy to store.
may be a stupid question, but can i put a roof top tent on top of a commercial truck cap? or is the cap not sturdy enough to hold it place? been watching your videos and want to build a overland truck to travel Canada
I love what y'all do, and you produce some excellent videos! I've noticed a lot of your videos are very quiet though. Any chance of adjusting the master volume up? I can barely hear most of them on my laptop when the volume is cranked. Meanwhile I have no issues on videos from other accounts.

Hello, is the PCOR stove slide out avail anywhere?
I did a quick google and found their website.
But, i wasn't able to find any info on the slide.
I kinda found that a food warmer is a really good options for short trips. You just have to perpare you food at home or buy some at the restaurants. You just put the box or bag in the food warmer few hours before the meal. It does not take big space at all.

I bought 4 stainless steel spoons from walmart for 92 cents each and made my own sporks.

We do not. They are too heavy. But very nice. Stanley has struck the perfect balance we think with the overlander in mind.
You should put out an XO recipe book. I am sure you have a ton of camping/expedition do's, and possibly as important, don'ts you could include. For example, I have noticed you eat a lot of soft tortilla meals. Is that purely personal preferrence, or are space/efficiency concerns driving that choice?
It's for sure on the list! We use tortillas A LOT because: They don't get squished like a loaf of bread, they are great wraps for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner and require no dishes, and they don't mold too easily and pack great!
who makes the spare tire system?
I go through sporks, I need to invest in a titanium, but at Walmart they sell these cheap ones in their camping area, Uco™ is the brand. They're cheap and seem to be holding up well and if a kid loses one it isn't that big of a deal, since there are Walmarts everywhere.
Had to laugh at your table comment, our RV came with a recess in the hold floor for the table. So everything is on top of it :(

Have you ever used a Traeger pellet stove? They have a portable one called the ranger. It’s awesome! After seeing this video, I am inspired to create a kitchen galley for the Traeger!
We have not but sounds awesome!
Okay then if you haven’t used a Traeger, let’s say I send you my portable model the “ranger” which isn’t just a smoker, but can grill, bake, and griddle too. Let’s say your minds are blown. You decide after that to customize the kitchen galley for a Traeger version with the one I sent you and I get a good deal on your first production model. How’s that sound?

Okay, Houston we have a problem. Clay, YOU NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHY YOUR AUDIO IS ALWAYS LOW. Very frustrating. Don’t go by what you hear in the headphones. The VUs need to be at least tapping the red.

I really hate sporks
Good video except for the complete lies when it came to the Stanley cook set. That kit is garbage and wouldn't hold up to the abuses of your crew on any extended trip. If you trash sporks like that...no way that flimsy thing makes it. I understand you have sponsors pay the Bill's here, but don't sell your soul to Hawk a kit that doesn't meet snuff.
I would rather spend my money on something else than European stoves and titanium sporks .
