- If you know the basics, planting a ZipGrow™ Tower can be very fast. (See the post and infographic: zipgrow.com/Pl...)
This makes gardening and farming with Towers easier and saves farmers money on labor.
Planting tools & materials
To make your planting a swift process, use the right table or planting bench. What makes a great planting table? Here are our top traits of a good table:
- A few feet longer than the towers
- Has a hook to hold the tower
- Is weighed or bolted down
- Has "guides" to keep media in place (PVC ends or dowels)
Seedling rules
Growers can use almost any type of seedling in their Towers. We prefer polymer bound plugs because they're easy to plant and move around, but other growers use their own soilless seedling mix or just plain old potting soil for seedlings.
While the type of plug and the crops you grow are variable, there are a few rules that you should always follow!
- Wait for the seedlings to mature.
- Use only the healthiest seedlings.
- If you're doing aquaponics, don't use perlite or rock wool.
Steps to plant a ZipGrow™ Tower
Step 1: Place the wicking strip 1/2 inch from the face of the Tower. (Leaving a 1-inch flap at the top of the Tower can help catch water from the dripper above.)
Step 2: Plant seedlings at a slight angle, spacing according to seed packet.
Step 3: Pull the media. Plant it first if you're 1 person, plant it as you pull if you're 2 people.

This video Answered many of my Questions,Thank you & if you can make Another video we learn many thing again👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽❤️❤️❤️
How do you unplug dead roots on post harvesting?
What advantage does this process have over mist or aerosol ?
do we need to flush the spinach in zip grow tower before harvesting while growing hydroponically?
Are the wicking strips reusable or do you get new ones every set amount of uses ?
how can one get the plastic zipper cover for the seedling rack?found in the background
Hey Sebastian, you can find these types of coverings in a wide variety of places. The tricky part is finding ones that will fit your particular seedling system. Here's an example of the style: www.clothesracks.com/quality-fabricators-heavy-duty-cover-for-3-garment-rack - Again, you want to make sure it's going to fit before you purchase anything!
Hi mr. Peterson how r u? Ksa
very time consuming and not commercial grade
a very informative video. thanks for putting it up
but i have a doubt..
how often do we need to change the foam
because it will get jammed or clot after successive plantation due to increase in root density.
please correct me if i am wrong.
Thanks for all the tips, comments and support on each of your towers, its a very helpful ideas.
Is it possible to not use a media and eliminate the hassle of roots cleaning? I want to use this for my own garden to feed a family, don't intend to harvest a whole tower per meal, just pick a bunch of greens up and replace with a seedling. I don't want to pull the whole strip of plants out just to get to one plant.
hi..
Bright Agrotech
..
thank you for your tips..i have one doubt in this method water is recirculating or not .. if water recalculation is there how it will work
If we use seed starting mix instead of those plugs... should we remove that mix from roots before transplanting it in zip grow tower...??
what is the material of media, some polyester foam?
some great pro tips
why did you use wikiing strips
can't we do it without it
It helps keep the roots saturated in a media that is mostly air. You can stop using it if you have enough biological material in the media to help pull the water close to the roots.
