@ the nba will probably move one of the west teams I mentioned above to the east while adding two new expansion teams in the west. If they do that there will be 16 teams in both conferences.
They’ll most likely move Memphis, because they are technically speaking, east of the Mississippi. For almost the past 25 years, the East’s 8th seed was rarely over .500 and West’s 8th seed was almost always over .500. Most of the exceptions have been recently.

That's because just like last season, the EC champion will, in all likelyhood, only play one, and maybe no, legitimate playoff-level teams on route to the Finals so they will be fresh as opposed to the WC champion who will be ragged by the time the Finals roll around.
After the Warriors Dynasty won in 2018, the past 6 finals have been evenly split 3-3 (Lakers, GSW and Nuggets in 2020, 2022 and 2023, Raptors, Bucks and Celtics in 2019, 2021 and 2024). By that logic the finals are still even.
Nothing too different compared to previous seasons tbh. What I wish they did was just get the top 12 records league wide into the playoffs, that was we don’t have a sub .500 team as a 4-5 seed in the East compared to an above .500 team missing the playoffs all together in the West.
Want to fix it? Just make the play in teams bracket mixed then the top 4 will be assigned. If all eastern team lose to the play in western team , then the last Eastern team who gets eliminated will be the eastern finals champion but will not participate in the nba finals.
