Great interview. I live right by Halifax and regularly walk around the grounds of Shibden Hall. Until I saw 'Gentleman Jack', I had no idea what a fascinating life Anne Lister had lead!
As a fellow Northern lass I am so proud and so moved and so thankful for this interview Pat and mostly being able to hear the acknowledgment of this magical global journey of the Gentleman Jack community that is still forever growing. The impact on life stories changed by the GJ effect and strength of community that exists is mind blowing. The sheer joy it brings shines a massive light in these troubled times, I pray and hope Anne and Ann can see this from up there. The amazing talent of Surrane Jones and Sophie Rundle and the pure brilliance of Sally Wainwright and her dedication in bringing this piece of Lesbian history to the our attention at the right time is phenomenally important. I thank you from the bottom of my ❤️ Least us not forget the series production team and the wonderful scholars and research teams and code breakers still working hard through her diaries, thankyou. It is how Sally describes it so perfectly, it is like discovering an unknown Shakespeare but it’s our very own Queen of Halifax Anne Lister.
Can't say enough positive things about everyone from Sally to Suranne to Sophie to the entire cast and crew connected with Gentleman Jack. It has changed my life. I've watched it 25 times!
I'm so glad to have heard them talk about the hilltop reunion (44:00) and the kiss. THE most brilliant acting in that scene (largely Suranne) that I've EVER seen!
I love ANN lister I've been happily married to a man 4nearly 30years! I new about shibbden Hall from school and as a musuiem. Then got to know about Ann lister she was truly a amazing woman for her time and now not many women can do the things she did and got throw. Everyone involved with the book and production of Ann lister and shibbdan Hall are truly amazing people thank you so much for bringing light to a amazing woman.
I first saw Suranne in Doctor Who. She played the physical embodiment of the TARDIS. She was great. In Gentleman Jack she is brilliant. Fabulously talented.
Suranne Jones.... hmmmm❣️ 💋 🥰 😍 😘 Dr Foster, Scott & Bailey... BRAVISSIMA!!! Unlike others, I LOVED the intimate glances to the camera, it brought out her mischievous - but also in some ways calculating, single-mided selfishness, in some ways - Lesbians the world over THANK YOU WOMEN for bringing our herstory alive❣️
Thank you Pat, Steph, and Liv for bringing us Sally and Suranne today, and of course, the surprise of O'Hooley and Tidow! Simply marvelous...a blessing to us all!
Thanks for this amazing gif for the fans of Anne lister on her birthday. Sally and Suranne are so brilliant. Season 2 is gonna be amazing just like the first. Love hearing these amazing women.
Thank you!! This live was AWESOME. It's just so good to know how hard they're working on it even with the quarantine. They're so dedicated and such a bless.
Suranne Jones es una gran actriz, interpretó de una manera magistral a Anne Lister. Después de Suranne Jones otra actriz tendrá muchos zapatos que llenar y esperamos que para la tercera temporada regresen el mismo cast
Thank you so much for putting this together. My partner and I travelled half way around the world to visit Shibden Hall (and friends & family) but have been in lockdown for the most part of the last 3 weeks. Look forward to watching this video... admire each of you for your talent and dedication.💕
hi you guys,,good to hear from you ;) i really enjoyed gentleman jack,,series,,great writing and fantastic acting,,loved every bit of the clips,,;;take care,,thank you,,')
Respect to Suranne Jones and Sally Wainwright!!!! They are both marvellous, talented and humble...I would not expect that they would actually have this kind of interview unlike these big Hollywood snubs!!!
fue una gran decision el que se besaran en la escena de la colina, aunque en la vida real no lo hicieran por la convención social, fue una gran escena.
Was Anne such a control freak that she disliked touching she didn't instigate herself? I got the distinct impression from her diary that she managed to maintain the illusion of masculinity with her lovers by keeping her breasts bound and her menstruation hidden and when one lover tried to touch her 'queer' she had a very adverse reaction. But I have only read a small part of her diaries and may have the wrong impression. Sally is a genius herself. Suranne is Anne Lister. No one else will be able to play that role now. If GJ fails to dominate the BAFTAs something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
Good point . The concept of trans didn't exit. Some people see her as that. I think she was her own unique mix of masculine and feminine traits. One important thing is she did not wish herself as something else and in the series state's she believes her sexual nature was God given and therefore to be lived out not denied or warped to suit society. I paraphrase, not having the original text here to check.
She, that is Anne mentioned about her periods in her diary, I don’t know if it was in the not coded sections or in the ones that were coded because I have not yet seen the evidence in my life.

It’s brilliant because of Suranne & Sally’s writing.

I'd love to know which scenes had to be reshot, and how Suranne felt about that.
Sophie: „You’re not gonna make me do that again, are you?!“ damn, she must have been exhausted
Sophie was hospitalized with Covid 19. Hope she's feeling better.
I have unforgiven on repeat. Sally is such a genius.
It's such a brilliant and thoughtful series, and the acting is amazing.
This was so good.
All you need to know about Anne Lister is she is an Aries.
I love jack the lass xox

She was what was called in the 20th century stone butch. Imaginatively very androgynous. Not female. Her own version of male.
@@frogmouth I think Anne was more like her own version of female.

@@frogmouth I agree. I think that there is infinite subtlety and graduation in sexual orientation. I am not sure labels are of any use.
