It doesn't when you consider his priorities.
He wants to be a hero for fun, and get some fame in the process, but his priorities are always clear:
* his principles: he wants to be a hero, not just some random brawler. He wants to save people with his strength.
* having fun: he wants to fight strong opponents. Problem is finding an opponent that is even remotely worthy. But he won't just fight anyone strong at random like a thug... or like the ninja Sonic.
* fame: he wants to be recognized as a hero. Even just one fan is a huge thing for him. But it's still the lowest priority here.
So he will try to get fame when he can, but never at the expense of behaving like the hero he imagines himself to be. Which means that he will sacrifice his reputation if that helps people.
These days, many songs are written for shows, but 20 to 30 years ago, it was not uncommon to use songs that had nothing to do with the content of the show, in other words, songs by singers that the record companies just wanted to sell.
The JAM Project was created by anime song singers with the idea that anime songs should be made for shows, just like in the old days.
Their official name is Japan Animationsong Makers Project.

One punch man = Funny, cool and really good side characters
Versus = One's only really dark story about hopelessness
The reason Saitama isn't front and center all the time is because the Story of OPM isn't just about him, but more it's his effect on the people around him being just as important and how they in turn affect him. You see it in how He inspires Genos, and how Genos is slowly giving him a sense of purpose. Season 2 we start to see rather quickly his effect on King, and to a lesser extend Fubuki. Thats why the screen time is shared. Season 3 (and likely 4) for this next arc is going to share even more so. So far what will likely be Season 5 is where his relationships with the other characters becomes a lot more pronounced.

If you like this song, I recommend to check other JAM Project song. their song for anime is always come with this kind of energy. In other word, always EPIC! They mostly sing for a Hot-Blooded Anime and Super Robot Anime that fit their energy, so if you check a lot of Mecha Anime, you gonna hear a lot of their songs.
Also JAM Project name stands for "Japanese Animationsong Maker", which as the name imply, a lot of their song that became Anime Opening was made with that Anime series in mind, that's why their lyrics always fitting for the series.
Also, RIP Ichiro Mizuki, the founder of the group. He left such a massive legacy to Japanese Anime and Music Community.

My most anticipated for these revisits continues to be the FMAB endings and the Re-zero Endings.
The One punch man endings are also quite good though they are super chill and the exact polar opposite of the high intensity of the openings
The members of Jam Project are all anime song singers from the 80s and 90s. Legends. Their late founder Ichiro Mizuki was big in the 70s. Please also listen to their song Skill. I think it's from a Super Robot Wars game.
I'm just kinda worried about season 3. Tatsumaki (tornado of terror) is one of my favorite manga characters ever, and she has some INSANE fights that either happen in S3 or S4, but I really want those animated with S1 quality, not S2.
Muratas art is out of this world, and deserves animation worthy of it. Especially since another amazingly drawn manga with an amazing similar character got absolutely horrible animation last season in "ragna crimson".
Jam Project is SO underrated
Literally no one mention ALL the Super Robot Wars games and anime theme songs are all done by Jam Project. Not to mention GARO as well.
And also no one know that Kageyama Hironobu which is part of the member also did a lot of Iconic anime songs.

ONE PUUUUUUUUUNCH!! You should check out the fan made manga opening(it has no spoilers) called One Punch Man Forever... It is really well done and shows how amazing the manga art is. The song is a banger!
To answer the question about if artists make songs for the manga that get used for the shows... yes they do. The both opening and ending songs for Call of the Night anime were done by Creepy Nuts but the ending song, Yofukashi no Uta, was written for and named after the manga just because they liked it so much.
I'm sure there's tons of other examples but this is usually the first one i think of nowadays.

Consider that the group's individual singers you have already heard in other anime theme songs. For example, Hironobu Kageyama is the singer of "Cha-la head-cha-la" for DRAGON BALL Z and Hiroshi Kitadani is the singer of "WE ARE" for ONE PIECE.
I highly recommend you listen to Kageyama Hironobu's solo songs. He sings the ending themes for Dragon Ball Z movies 2-13, the second OP and ED of Saint Seiya, and the opening themes of Jetman, Maskman, and Changeman.

the first opening for March comes in like a lion was written for the manga! it debuted 2 years before the anime itself, the song came out as a music video for the manga in 2014 and then when the anime came out it in 2016 and the music was used as the first op theme.
