- Short video showing all of Reptile's clues before a match.
The only clue I could not capture was "I am Reptile, find me!" It was almost impossible after many attempts, so I gave up. In this video there are 9 clues, when there should be a total of 10.
'You must find me to beat me' - Thanks for the tip Reptile.
LoL useless tip
Thank you reptile, very cool.
Aaron Mitchell 1000000 points if you beat me
Oh yeah that will help
"Alone Is How to Find Me"
No one said lizardmen were smart okay.
1. "Look to La Luna" = Watch the moon for flying objects
2. "Alone is how to find me" = 1 Player mode only
3. "Perfection is the key" = Must obtain Double Flawless
4. "Fatality is the key" = Must perform fighter fatality
5. "Blocking will get you nowhere" = Cannot block at all during match
6. "Tip eth fo mottob" = Bottom of the Pit
"10,000,000 points if you destroy me", "You must find me to beat me" and "You cannot match my speed" are all pretty self explanatory.
en total son seis pistas que nos da reptile para encontrarlo y enfrentarlo debajo de las espigas del puente the pit
I am reptile find me
I actually don't understand "You cannot match my speed"
@@shishsjxnsnzns Reptile's actually faster than the other characters.
The same thing applies with Jade, Smoke & Noob Saibot in MK II.
In the Genesis version you need the title screen code to access the objects in the sky

When we were kids, my friend told me he saw reptile appear in his SNES version late one night, and it scared him. Like it was some kind of ghost in the game. Without the internet, things like this were a legend and you never knew for sure if they were true or not.
Bruh I used to turn my super nes completely off & put n street fighter barely playing MK & I begged my mom for da game, he used to jump on da screen alone tho w/ no one else on da screen between fights and I'm like thinking my Shit was possessed or something. Then when somebody showed me 1 day to use liu kang & do his fatality I was blown away & felt dumb as hell
@@DreMurrz you replied that to another comment

Dunno just figured it was a little odd
I lived a little of this "hearsay" about video games in the mid to late 2000s. Shit was awesome, it created so much mystery around the games.
The internet was already around and going strong in that time, but social interaction was pretty primitive and most of us were kids who weren't allowed to use it in the first place lol
I remember him scaring the shit out of me when I first saw him.
ThreeEyedPea Lol.. Me too

i used to play MK1 for 5 years, and never seen reptile appear in the begening of the round.
The first release of the game didn't include him
Pretty sure the home versions generally do, though. In any case, though, it's a *very* rare occurence.
It appears from revision 3.0 on,in older revisions dont exist.
I would've lost my shit if I saw this in the arcade.
Sometimes I miss the old days where you couldn't just go online to find out at about secret characters and how to find them in games.
There was something cool about hearing/seeing a secret character in a game and working out how to access them, only relying on clues hastily scribbled down or from computer game magazines and checking out all kinds of tips and rumours before that "eureka" moment kicks in when you finally find that secret character!
"You must find me and beat me"
Kano and Sonya : but you in here 🤣🤣🤣
"You must find me to beat me."
You don't say?
When you play on the bridge, fucus on the moon sometimes you see something flying that mean there is Reptile, now you must win double flawless + fatality and with play vs Reptile
Forgot to mention you can't use block.
@@accelriderx2931 And it must be vs CPU, not Player vs Player.
Reptile is such a badass!
The first time I saw a Reptile clue, it startled me as well.
I was also startled by the random appearances of Jade and Smoke in MK II.
I'll never forget the time when I played Super Nintendo MK II, I was about to fight Jade when Smoke popped up with a message.
Then there was the time I was ready to fight Smoke when another Smoke randomly popped up with a message.
That happened twice in 1 day [I fought Smoke for 100 matches in a row on Super Nintendo MK II via the fight Smoke instantly code].
Ah, those memories. Long before cell phones & social media. Imagine what it must have been like seeing this mysterious character named Reptile randomly appear out of nowhere & then deciphering how to access him. What it must have been like to be out on a Friday night in 1992 at your local arcade, bowling alley, amusement park or whatever, surrounded by friends & getting to fight Reptile at the bottom of the Pit in MK1 after deciphering these mysterious clues. Truly a Generation X experience! So around here got to fulfill that? Share your stories. Perfection is the key👍
Truly a great time to be alive.
That's some serious requirements for the fight.
Double Flawless Victory and a Fatality while watching for Santa to fly by on The Pit. I miss the good old days of Mortal Kombat.
You must find him to beat him
The problem is, say you do the requirements with scorpion or liu kang, don’t there fatalities require you to press block?

It would've been awesome if, instead of landing and and jumping away, Reptile would simply show up out of thin air in the middle of the fighters, say the clue and then disapper once again, hinting his invisibility skills.
Didn't exist until MK2. In this game he just has Scorpion and Sub-Zero's movesets combined.
Yes, @@PhirePhlame. I'm aware of that. Just like, in the beginning, Jade's weapons were Kitana's fans. I know the developers only came up with the characters' individualities later. But it would be awesome if they did from the beginning.
I like how Reptile was originally a reskinned Scorpion that had both his and Sub Zero's kit.
Didn't have his own acid based kit until after.
La Luna = Moon - Stage with a moon.
Perfection is key =Peftect fight would be Double Flawless Victory
Fatality is key = Perform Fatality.
Blocking will get you nowhere = Blocking still takes some damage.
Tip eth fo mottob - bottom of the pit [location]
Put those together and you get, perform a double flawless victory and a fatality on the pit, to go to the bottom and fight reptile
Look to La Luna: if a silhouette can be seen flying across the moon, then that's your chance.
Blocking will get you nowhere: You are disqualified if you press the block button at any time during the battle, even when performing the fatality.
@@garuelx8627 I'm pretty sure you're allowed to push block for the fatality - I have seen it done before with Scorpion, so it must be possible.
@@AchtungBaby77 I know you can on the snes, idk about the sega and arcade though...
While playing alone, you must get a double flawless victory on the pit stage and end the match with a fatality. Do not block at all. Also, it will only work if a shadow passes by the moon. Reptile also states that he's fast and you win a lot of points after beating him.
@@garuelx8627 It's nothing to do with pressing block, if you're blocking you still take damage so you can't get the double flawless if you're hit whilst blocking
I once fought a female reptilian in the pit under the bridge. I dont remember how, but i know for sure that it was a mix between sonya and reptile.

Imagine being the combatants and some random dude drops out of the sky, says some stuff and vanishes
From what I read the rumor started as some error with the SEGA version of the game that caused Scorpion's yellow suit to appear red from overuse. It doesn't make sense that you can use a game to the point the colors change, that would usually be a problem with you TV. Anyway according to the myth something would read "Error Macro" before you entered the selection screen upon which you would find your Scorpion turned red. When they did actually make a character "Error Macro" became Ermac.
It’s in the machine stats screen, which arcade operators would access via a switch locked behind a panel in the cabinet. It just says “Ermacs”.
Nada a ver...isso veio anos depois...reptile ja veiona programacao inicial
Curious, is Reptile the first secret character of fighting games? because if he is.... that's awesome!
He may be. Street Fighter 2 didn't unlock the bosses until Champion so they technically weren't hidden. I can't think of fighting games prior that would have. Pit Fighter was a brawler game prior to MK but I think you just picked the 3 guys. NBA Jam had a ton of hidden characters as well from Midway including MK characters in the game but I believe NBA Jam came out in 1993 and MK 1 was already out in the arcades by 1992.
the aspect ratio of the video is kinda messed up
yea
Back then before social media, players had to figure out what these clues meant
Even with social media, there still has to be _someone_ to figure out what does what so that everyone else can find out and there are still some secrets out there that took decades to actually find
Plus back then while we didn't have social media, we had something just as effective: strategy guides.
The story behind why Reptile is green is kinda funny(and the story behind ERMAC as well). The reason why Reptile is green is because Midway combined the Sub and Scorpion's color sprites (hence, blue + yellow = green). Ermac was some sort of ERROR MACRO(ER-ror MAC-ro, get it?), and I can't remember the reason he's red for certain, it had to do something with red being the default color or something.
I like how dark and serious his music is every time he pops up
@MadrigueraRecords Luna is a spanish word that means moon, Mexico is not the only one country where people speak spanish
Thats why it says "hiding" also,in 1st game, there was a stage that has all characters winning poses with statues. And neither Sub-Zero's or Scorpion's winning pose was raising right hand(Sub rises both and Scorpion rises left). This has been prooved in MKSM,they find that stage and that statue turned to Ermac
At "The Pit" stage, sometimes some funny shadow silhoettes will show over the moon, in one of those times, if you manage to defeat a computer-controlled enemy without blocking by a double flawless victory and execute the stage fatality at the end, you will battle "reptile", you can only fight him, he cant be unlocked to play as in mortal kombat 1.
One waz called nimbus terrafaux jus look him up, hiz face will look familiar to you when u see it I promise u
Yeah u had to use a game 🦈 to play with him
I remember the first time I saw a clue in the arcade when I was about seven, it was Perfection is the key. I was like what the hell was that. I didn't find out till years later that it was a secret character you could find.
This was the original mystery character. I wanted MK2 so badly just to play as him.
For a fight- Double flawless victory on the pit stage when you can see shadows flying passed the moon without blocking and do a fatality finish.
For one of his hints- Random chance he just interrupts fights for no reason to give you that message.
yet i wonder if any of the characters would have a thought to do a fatality right there as he is there for the second, either out of opportunity or of shutting his green-text mouth up and quit interrupting their run.
When I Enter The graduation ceremony of The school
This video makes me think of Reptile trying to get through to the player through voicemail
Bridge match
Reptile: Greetings player! i am Reptile and I'm here to give you a hint to find my location! tip eht fo mottob! Good luck!
After bridge match
Reptile: Hey, it's me again. Did you get the hint I told you? Ah I'm pretty sure something went wrong haha! Well it's all good since I can just give you another hint, This one will definitely get to you. I mean you probably haven't forgotten about me. There's no way you would since I'm the almighty Reptile!
Next battle
Reptile: Right, I know you got that last hint I gave you and the one that I sent you because i saw you looking at them. You need a little convincing here. I'm not going to sit idly by and watch you ignore me so I'll tell you this now! You better fucking restart the game or else I'm going to do a fatality on this arcade cabinet and destroy any fun that you ever had with this arcade machine! WATCH ME MOTHERFUCKER I WILL DO IT! *Slams phone*
Endurance match
Reptile: Okay, okay. Maybe I got a little too angry there and maybe that scared you away... but I've recomposed myself! We should start fresh! I just bought out a loan of get this... 10,000,000 Kombat points and it can be yours now if you find me and follow the hints. 10,000,000 kombat points! Everyone will think you're the Mortal Kombat god! No one will beat your high score! What do ya say?
Goro battle
Reptile: Oh what's the point? You probably don't even care... No one cares about how I feel! Shang Tsung trapped me down here and there is no way out. I just want someone to talk to instead of looking at these decapitated heads and the corpse of Liu Kang you probably sent down here. I bet he would have had a lot to say if he were alive now. I'm all alone and I have no one and nothing! Life is meaningless since I found out I was the last Zaterran. Do you know how hard it is to be the last of your race? WHERE'S MY SYMPATHY?
Shang Tsung match
Reptile: You know what? I think I just opened my eyes to the whole situation and I am absolutely fine with this. There are no more tears and there is no more anger. Thinking back to Liu Kang, I've learned to appreciate the home that Shang Tsung has gifted me. I get to see all kinds of faces fall from the sky, I mean just this morning I saw Sub Zero fall to his death by the hand of Scorpion and I thought, thank goodness that wasn't me. So go ahead player, don't come down to my lair because I appreciate my gifts! I bet you're going to get your ass kicked by Shang Tsung anyway and I bet you'll come crawling to me for help but nope. No more hints. You play the game however you like. I hope you enjoy yourself.
Dude, that's like a Dorkly MK video
I laughed for 10 minutes
someone have to make a animation of this
Only one I remember is "YOU MUST FIND ME TO BEAT ME", on the SEGA Genesis.
Ahh the days before the internet. When you and your friends would talk about what the hell the clues meant and couldnt google search it.
Good ol days where everything was in magazines or word of mouth
To be fair, you could still do exactly that today, it just wouldn't last as long, as once the clues are figured out (more or less) they'd be online. There would be that moment when the game's new where the clues are a mystery and are being discussed (both off line and online) though.
Eu joguei Mortal Kombat 1 uns 30 anos vi esse Reptile aparecer uma vez,pra dar essas dicas

I've had the arcade version of MK1 [on PS2] for 4 years and Reptile has never made any random appearances like that.
He has made a few random appearances in the Super Nintendo version.
I've also had the arcade version of MK II [on PS2] for 4 years. Jade and Smoke have never made any random appearances [except for hiding behind trees in the Living Forest] before a match.
They have on the Super Nintendo MK II .
Fighting Reptile in MK1 as well as Jade, Smoke and Noob Saibot in MK II is always fun.
Never seen an MK1 game disc for the PS2?
@modewr "La Luna," meaning "The Moon." You can figure this because "Lunar" is the English word meaning anything to do with the moon.
@ManOfHour360films La Luna is some kind of Spanish for the moon but since the stage where that was displayed had no moon, it was irrelevant.

reverse translation:
bottom of the pit
Nice, edited on Power Director! I know as I use the same transitions 😆
who agrees that reptile is the best classic character
Pit, double flawless, fatality, no blocking, fox only, final destination.
Was this just random? Or did you have to do something to trigger the clues?
Probably random at some stages (bridge and the pit) after X hours of gameplay is my guess. It was creepy af. Great times
It was entirely random
@modewr La Luna, Spanish for "The Moon," can be seen in similarities between English and Spanish, both origins being Latin. You hear "Lunar," as in "Lunar Eclipse," meaning the Earth's shadow goes over the moon. Latin word "Lunaris."
Well Ermac was an ultra super secret character too in this game.It is logical,if there is blue and yellow, there was suppoused to be a red! Idk if Reptile is the 1st one but if you wanna learn it,better check out 1st fighting games and their secrets in game.
@syntox I know your post is old but I couldn't agree more that this MK looks a lot better than the new ones.

The quality of the graphics and animation is amazing! Is that from the arcade version? Because I don't evn remember the SNES version to have such good graphics..
@miladchahwan at the place with the bridge thing with the moon background 0:18, theres a pit with spikes. when it says finish him, you uppercut them and they fall into the pit
It was amazing how many things you had to do to fight Reptile. 😆
The "Game Over" song from the first MK.
Thanks for putting that up there (didn't notice that hint...but than ofcourse i skip forward in the video with one click and it goes straight to the hint X3)

@Nicksolo85 watch the moon, means he,s near the place you can watch the moon! the only level you can find him, is the pit. 0:15 - 0:32
OMG I LOVE NOSTALGIC CRAP LIKE THIS
How could one person hate a guy that wants you to fight them???
in order to fight him:choose pit level and wait until somethinf flies over the moon(rare)then yoru have to beat the opponent no block no damage after you do that reptile appears
@ManOfHour360films "la luna" means the moon in spanish
Tell Reptile I think it might be a little late once you reach Shang Tsung.
no wonder I never heard that song before, I never got a game over in MK1
It’s random and I saw a reptile clue in the reptile fight...
Is this something that actually is in the game? How do you get the hints to come up?
You cannot fight reptile playing Johnny Cage, because his fatality uses block😢
"TIP FO ETH MOTTOB" Took like 2 seconds to figure out since ive seen a guy go against him and he was at the bottom of the pit. LOL
Didn’t see it here, but maybe I missed it. I also remember seeing “bottom of the pit” backwards.
Yes. It's the Original Arcade version

"You must find me to beat me", no shit Reptile, no shit.
Yeah just like playing mk 2 trying to find hints on jade or smoke... You could play the game for hours and you might get one hint if you were lucky soedays .. others not so much. I was happy to see one of em poke they head out from behind a tree in the living forest... I was surprised how easy reptile was first time I was lucky enough to get back to back flawless... And have a shadow pass by the moon and not screw up and pull off the fatality to unlock the fight
I like the last one that says bottom of the pit backwards ;)
The only clue Reptile ever gave me out of all the years I've played Mortal Kombat 1 is Perfection is the key.
I think that was the most common hint/occurrence, which led to the common theory of perfecting every match up to the pit stage.
the tip at the end is bottom of the pit
@ManOfHour360films Its not backwards Luna just means moon in spanish so look at the moon
what does the moon suppose to do in the pit ...
I've actually fought and beaten Reptile in the arcade version but I've never seen his clues in the arcade version.
His UMK3 ending says he's been hiding since the first tournament, but that doesn't prove anything. He wasn't in the first game.
Has anybody actually been able to calculate the odds of a Reptile Clue?? Or is it just on a random basis? I have a Y-Unit Revision 4.0 board and the last time I checked the game audits, I've played at least 200 matches so far (since resetting to factory settings), and I still have yet to witness the elusive "CLUES."
Me and a few friends thought that if you did all of these then the dragon on the character select screen would be replaced by reptile
I actually used to think that too when I was a kid lol.
Dude, the hand that Scorpion and Sub-Zero raise differs depending on which direction they're facing. If they were facing the right side, they raise their right hand, if they faced the left side, then they raise their left hand, it has nothing to do with Ermac.
Actually I dont remember which game it was but in his endding it said"After hiding since the 1st tournament..." And you can see him in story of mk9's 1st tournament. But I think his moves was same as Reptile.
10,000,0000 points for one fight?! Let me think about that and I'll get back to you in the morning.
Look to La Luna = Look to the moon.
