As a Dane I grew up with Select footballs. They also invented the 32 panel football, so they are very competent when it comes to making a superb traditionel football. Select balls are characterised by not being special in any particular direction. They are allround sensible and to a large extent extremely predictable and with a gentle degradation of performance. The only downside is that one cannot make it do unexpected stuff. The best example is probably the match between Denmark and Portugal 2011 in Parken, Copenhagen - and that (very beautiful) freekick goal scored by Christiano Ronaldo. One can tell from the flight path that it is a Select ball. It doesn't have the weird kinks found in the Jubilani "football".
Josh, next time compare the air retention and the air filling "valve" of the balls. Nike's problem is related to the valve (don't know the correct word here), it doesn't last too long and before failing completely to retain air, it leaks air too easily compared to adidas (in between days). I believe adidas has the best valve, it is "exposed" on the surface of the panel, while Nike has it inside/hidden/under the panel Best part of Select is that they still use stitching, right? I still miss the Nike Incyte balls, the best balls ever, which had stitching and very standard panels like the Select's. Thanks for the video (but Puma could be here too hehe)
I know exactly what you mean, I almost bought the Nike ball over the weekend but decided against it after seeing its air valve. Guess I’ve just gotten too used to Adidas balls over the years lol
Really? I’ve never had a problem with the Nike valve. I find it so much better than the exposed ones that can overtime protrude ruining the shape and expose it to damage.
You forgot about texture! How grippy or slippery they are I think is super important to most players. We manipulate the ball very often with our studs or drag or spin it with our instep and out step. I hate a slippery ball, and that select looks like it might be the most slippery out of the bunch. I have the Nike and has great grip cuz of those ridges, and I’ve messed around a little with the two adidas in a shop, and the al rihla seems light and very grippy with the texture it has, the champions league is ok but doesn’t grip as well as the Nike particularly using your studs.
In the video the select ball looks like it has a slippery texture but it actually isn’t if you look at it closely and feel it irl if one of your mates owns one by any chance. I’m a big fan of it
The Norwegian League are using Select as matchball. Before that it was each clubs sponsor who stood for the matchball in games. And what about Mitre? Never used it myself
Be careful with the Adidas UCL ball. I have last year’s version, and the stitches on the “stars” starts to come apart after 10-15 uses on artificial turf. Also the graphics across the ball will start to peel even faster than that. I’ve bought around 10 OMBs over the last few years and it is easily the worst.
Jamie, have you heard of the Select iBall? Select presented it like in April, but hasn’t released and there is no information about it. It wouldn’t surprise me if Select faced issues with semiconductors for the ball or any other supply chain issue, but can’t help but wonder if the product is ever going to launch.
I wish Select was available in Brazil. Nike is not offering the Premier League ball in Brazil for some years now, just take downs of it. If you could reach the brazilian brand called Penalty, they have a pretty good OMB, the Penalty S11 Ecoknit
Been watching the channel from the very beginning. I know which one will top the list or else Jay Mike will probably kill you. Tks for quality content. Love from Vietnam.

Hi, Josh, I'm wondering how do the current match balls compare to some of the classics balls that are still available to purchase? for example, adidas tango pasadena. Thanks.
Hey Josh, do you plan on reviewing the Vapor XV pro tf anytime soon? Really considering getting a pair but would like to hear your thoughts on it (if it has changed at all from the previous model). Cheers
I ordered the Derbystar but decided to return it to get the Nike Flight. Derbystar is too light, not about the weight but the feeling when taking shots, I prefer the heavy feeling of Nike Flight or Adidas UCL balls.
Request - The PUMA match balls of La Liga and Serie A - Kipsta Football of Ligue 1 - Molten match balls used by the AFC Champions League and the UEFA Europa League
Depends on the feel of the ball and the size of goals you have. The ground might be more futsal size and you might feel that fully inflate ball is too bouncy. Personally on smaller grounds prefer less bouncy balls. Btw. 60 metres long and 30 metres wide is not so small pitch- I played on smaller ones. Do you play, 6 or 7 a side games? And last thing if your goals are smaller, like futsal goals (or handball) than you might consider playing with the ball no. 4 size. No. 5 ball is generally for bigger fields and regular football. Cheers!
Can someone explain to me who would buy a £160 ball, I know nothing about football but I'm assuming you don't bring your own ball to games and even if you do there's no advantage for you specifically, you wouldn't want to lose it outside and id guess for training you would have a bunch of cheaper balls. So do you get together with a group of friends and spread the cost to buy this for your in-house matches?
Because you can, simple as that. They are objectively nicer to play with, but won't make you any better of a player, and won't ultimately enable you to have more fun by leaps and bounds. It's a nicer feel for those who care for it, and if you've got the money to buy it, then it's a nice addition to your football gear.
The best modern high tech technology seasoned match ball are Nike Adidas and Puma the rest are just made for occasional competitions and the in between them are classic
Actually it's not true. Select balls are official balls played by players in games in Bundesliga and Eredivisie (under Derbystar brand - Germany and Dutch), few leagues in Scandinavia, Portugal and 2nd tier (professional) in Poland. Kipsta is official ball played in French League 1 - I played this one, it has a great filling.Voit is in Mexico (that brand is 100 years old.

I go with Derbystar, Adidas UCLB, Nike Merlin, Puma Orbita FIFA pro Serie A.
