    Nice looking ladies! I like your explanation at the end about not pushing the cows for more milk and the break even.

    it is best mixer for high production of different types of livestock

      I would recommend using a vertical mixer. I think they are mostly similar. Some last longer than others. I’m not super brand loyal, but this Luck Now seems to be built very heavy, and has lasted us well.

    Silage can replace green fooder with more energy???????

    • @farmcards
      @farmcards  5 лет назад +1

      Silage has more energy. Alfalfa can be over 20% protein. Grass is normally pretty low on protein and is shallow rooted so when it dries it won't grow any more. Corn silage has corn in it. Haylage is made with alfalfa. If it's made with oats it'll have about 10% protein. It's all in how it's made. If green fodder refers to like chopped grass- but green chop can be bad because if it's raining you will mess up your field and make ruts. Green chopping takes a lot of time. Haylage making is fast. Hope this answers your question.

    What is the feed mix ratio.
    Also any chance of doing a cideo of haylage and one on silage and how it all is stored etc

    • @farmcards
      @farmcards  3 года назад

      Yes. Please look through our videos. We do have a few on chopping corn, and haylage. Please check out our video on the Kelly Ryan bagger to see how we store our silage.

    Why did you unload silos by hand?

    • @farmcards
      @farmcards  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Steve VB. Thanks for watching and commenting! we had silo unloaders but they were broke as long as I can remember. So we were the silo unloaders. We would climb up there and pitch them out by hand with a ensilage fork with lots of tines. There were three silos.
      The silos aren't used anymore. Now the skid steers do the work.

      farmcards how long did it take you to pitch a full batch of feed? I only use a pitchfork in our silos to level them off when we fill them and even that’s not fun lol but thankfully we only use silos for our heifers and a bunker for the cows.

      I guess it depended on how motivated I was that day!
      We had 3 silos 1 haylage and 2 silage. We’d pitch out 2 a day.
      For 40 cows fed twice a day I could get enough down by the time I said a whole rosary.
      You’d know when you were done if you’d look down the chute and didn’t see light anymore. I think it’d be about 15 feet from the floor to the bottom of the chute or so a decent pile.
      It’s been many years but I still remember 1 wheelbarrel of haylage to every 3 cows or was it 4? I’m getting old, can’t remember.

      Hey Chase sorry it's taken a little while for me to respond. We test the feed bags when we open them
      and we have Modwest Bio Ag make a ration for us based on that.
