Sugar Ray Leonard the greatest of all times.. the most complete fighter of all times … he got it all . He was a perfect boxer. Inside, outside, midside, good chin, god jab, good lelf,good right. He got it all the beast the best

I was a 16yr old kid who they would throw in the ring as fresh meat. Am pro gym on 7th st in Allentown Pa. Willie was a hero in my mind going the distance against Ray. Willie could have knocked me out sparring many times but he was a good guy. I remember he was impossible to hit and could hit you from anywhere. Tough guy in the ring but the nicest guy outside the ring! Willie fucked Ray up a couple of times. Ray Leonard was a hero to me as well. Two great fighters!
used to play tennis with Willie at the Jordan Park tennis courts in Allentown. I remember the big bandage he wore over one eye at one point after a big fight, maybe this one. Give him my fond regards Alicia. Great guy!

But it's a hell of a coincidence because, after watching the big Spence-Crawford fight together last weekend, I forwarded a friend the You Tube fight of your dad vs Leonard. He was suitably impressed.
I grew up watching Willie fight live in Allentown. Howard Davis ducked him after Willie's second fight with Rufous Miller. I waited 36 years to see this fight.
Future USBA Jr.Welterweight Titleist. Leonard was matched with a tough and diverse set of opponents while climbing the ladder.They helped him when times got tough later in his career.
Good test for Sugar it being only his 2nd pro fight...Willie was saved in the 3rd w the standing 8 count or he was going down then the bell but good tough test for Sugar.

Willie ain't half bad, times Ray up multiple time in this fight. Honestly skill wise they look fairly even at this point in Ray's career, but seems he's just a little behind in sheer athleticism, either that or wasn't moving with the same urgency as Ray.
Ray Jr is out there, a little messed up in the head, doesn`t speak to his dad much cause he use to see his dad whoop his mom`s ass. If you google him, a few articles will pop up/

willie rod was my first boss doing tree work, hes a great guy to work with.

The referee jumped in just as Leonard was pounding Willy into oblivion. Ray spent all his energy anticipating the knockout.
A much tougher fight for Leonard than in his first fight, and this is the first time that he was ever hurt in a pro boxing!!!
